ASSURE MODEL
An instructional system or guideline that
teachers can use to develop lesson plans
which integrate the use of technology
and media.

Instructional Design Models and Methods

ASSURE

Analyze
Learners

Who is the audience?

Matching the characteristics of

the learner with the content of
the methods, media, and
materials.
Analyze Learners
GENERAL LEARNERS

grade, age, sex, mental, emotional, physiscal or

social problems, socio economic status, etc.

SPECIFIC ENTRY COMPETENCIES

prior knowledge, skills, and attitudes.

LEARNING STYLE
verbal, logical, visual, musical, structured
ASSURE TTL1

State Objectives

What the students need to learn?

Statements describing what the learner will do as a

result of instruction.
ASSURE
State Objectives
Learning Outcome: "At the end of the session, ENGL397 students will be able to distinguish between primary
and secondary sources"

Audience ("ENGL397 students will be able to...")

For whom is the objective intended?

Behavior ("distinguish")

What is the behavior or performance to be demonstrated?

Conditions ("At the end of the session")

What are the conditions under which the behavior or

performance will be observed?
Degree ("between primary and secondary sources")

To what degree will the knowledge or skill be mastered?

ASSURE

Select Methods, Media,

and Materials

What the instructor needs to

use for face-to-face, hybrid,
and online teaching?

This is the step where the

Instructor will build a bridge
between the audience and the
objectives.
ASSURE
Select Methods, Media,
and Materials

WHAT ARE THE METHODS ?

Interactive, integrated,
experiential, thematic, WHAT ARE THE MATERIALS ?
collaborative or research.
Selecting available
Modify existing
WHAT ARE THE MEDIA ? Design new

Flip chart, poster, modules,

powerpoint, computer-based
tools, etc.
ASSURE

Utilize Media and

Materials
Now you must decide how the media,
materials and technology must be
used to carry out your method/s.

After selecting the materials, be sure

to utilize them during the lesson. It is
suggested here that you follow the "5
P's" process.
5 P's
5 P's
1 Preview the technology, media, and materials.

2 Prepare the technology, media, and materials.

3 Prepare the environment.

4 Prepare the learners.

5 Provide the learning experience

ASSURE

Require Learner
Participation
Your lesson plan should include a
description of how you will require your
learners to remember, understand,
apply, analyze, evaluate, and create the
information included in the lesson.

The goal here is for active learning to

occur.
Sample
Activities

Read and Tell

Ask three students to read something with

regards to the lesson you discussed. Then ask
two students to go outside the room and let
the 1st reader stay and recall what he/she
read. Then call the 2nd student to do the
same thing, and so with the 3rd one. The
student who can tell the story close to what
he/she read will be the winner.
Sample
Activities

Blind Fold
Guessing

Blind Fold Guessing is an activity to test the

senses of smell and taste.
ASSURE

Evaluate and
Revise
After instruction, you must evaluate the entire
instructional process. If there are discrepancies
between what you intended and what actually
happened during the lesson, make appropriate
revision before using the lesson again.

In this step, document your plans for

evaluating the impact of your lesson on
student learning.
Evaluation
Evaluation methods for each of methods
the following are included:
1. Student Performance
Create a rubric based on the objectives that you listed in the second part of
this lesson plan as detailed as possible.
2. Media Effectiveness
How will you evaluate the effective use of the media that you select for this
lesson?
3. Instructor Performance
How is your performance assessed in this lesson? You can have students,
co-workers, your supervisors and others to evaluate your performance.
Provide detailed information.
