NEW CHALLENGES TO HUMAN ADAPTATION AND

SOCIAL CHANGE

Global Warming and Climate Change

Global warming is the term used to describe a gradual increase in
the average temperature of the Earth’s atmosphere and it’s oceans, a
change that is believed to be permanently changing the Earth’s climate
.It is now a big issue for the whole environment, it is caused by mainly
by greenhouse effects.

Greenhouse effect
It is the process wherein radiation from Earth’s atmosphere warms
it’s surface to a temperature above what it would be in the absence of it’s
atmosphere. It is caused by greenhouse gases.

Factors which contribute to the increase of these

greenhouse gases:
 Burning of fossil fuels
 Farming- animals produce large amonts of methane. Some fertilizers
also release nitrous oxide, which is another greenhouse gas.
 Improper waste disposal- carbon dioxide and methane are released
during the decay of food, vegetation and paper dumped in landfills.
EFFECTS OF GLOBAL WARMING
Rise of sea levels- since the Earth is heating up,ice caps and glaziers
starts to melt. With a large of amount of ice melted, large amount of water
or the sea level increases.
Extreme weather- since the level of sea rises high level of precipitation
would occur and the Earth would experience extreme rainfall or storms
because of the large amount of water being evaporated into the
atmosphere.
Ocean Acidification- as carbon dioxide dissolves in sea water, carbonic
acid is formed, which has the effect of acidifying the ocean, measured as
a change in PH.

LOSS OF HABITATS
Species that live-in habitats start to migrate
and might lead to extinction because of the
loss of habitat that they live in.
It is a process by which natural habitat is
rendered incapable of supporting its native
species.

SOCIAL STRATIFICATION
- Is a form of inequality.it is a process wherein
the members of the society are ranked in terms
of their superiority. Members are divided into
different strata or layers that fall in a
hierarchy.Members of the same rank have
similar identities and lifestyles.
-
THREE SOCIAL CLASSES
UPPER CLASS
- is the social class composed of people
who hold the highest social status, and usually
are also the wealthiest members of society and
also wield the greatest political power/
MIDDLE CLASS
-is a class of people in the middle of a
social hierarchy. They are highly political and
vigorously contested by various schools of
political and economic philosophy

LOWER CLASS
The working class (labouring
class) that includes all those who
have nothing to sell but their
labour power and skills.It
includes both white and blue-
collar workers,manual and mental
workers of all types.
