Teacher’s Activity Student’s Response
A. Introduction Good morning, class!
Good morning, Ms. Ericka
Please all stand for a prayer.

Before you take your seats please arrange your chair properly
and see to it that there is no trash under your chair.

You may now take your seats. Is everyone present today?

Great! That’s good to hear.

Yes, ma’am
Let's take a moment to recap the last topic we talked about at
our last meeting before we properly begin our lesson.

What was our lesson last meeting?

Very good. So, when we say zero of an exponential function, it

refers to what? We determined the intercepts, zeroes and asympote of a
exponential function.

That’s right. And how can we find the zero of an exponential

function? It refers to the value of the independent variable x that makes the
function 0
Very good. How about when we say the intercepts of an
exponential function?
First, equate f(x) to zero and then, solve for x.

What if you want to get the y-intercept of the function? The y-intercept is a point at which the graph crosses the y-axis.
The x-value is always
How about in getting the x-intercept? at zero.

Exactly. Lastly, we also try to get the asymptote of the

exponential function. Again, what do we mean by asymptote? We let x=0 and by substitution, we solve for y.

We let y=0 and by substitution, we solve for x.

Very good. And an asymptote can be vertical, horizontal or
oblique.

So much for that. Before we move on to our topic for today, An asymptote is a line that a curve approaches arbitrarily closely.
let’s have an activity in which we will go back in solving
exponential function, equation and inequalities. Do you still
remember how to solve it?

Okay. So, if that’s the case,let’s solve for the following:

1. 24 x+2=64
Yes, ma’am

24 x+2=64
4 x+2 6
2 =2
4x+2 = 6
3 x −1 4x =6 - 2

Very good. It seems that you really understand the topic 5 x <5 2(x+1 )
on our previous discussion. x¿ 2(x+1)
x ¿ 2x +1
Now, let’s solve real-life problems involving exponential -1 ¿ 2x -x
function, equation and inequalities. -1 ¿ x

B. Development Kindly read the objectives.

Objectives:
1.recall how to solve exponential functions, equations, and
inequalities; and
2. solve real-life problems involving exponential functions,
equations, and inequalities
Example 1:
Danielle deposited ₱5,000.00 in an account that offers 6%
interest compounded semi-annually. How much money is in his
account at the end of three years?

The formula for compound interest is

where
A=final amount ,
P= principal∨theinitial amount ,
r =interest rate ,

n=number of ×interest is compounded∈one year ,tt =number of years .

Solution:
Given: P = 50000 r = 6% n = 2 (semi - annually)
t= 3
0.06 2(3)
A=5000(1+ )
2
1.06 6
A=5000( )
2
A = 5970.26

Therefore, after three years, the amount of money in Danielle’s

account is ₱5,970.26

Note : If interest is compounded annually , n=1.

If interest is compounded semi −annually , n=2.
If interest is compounded quarterly , n=4.
If interest is compounded monthly , n=12.

Can you follow?

Alright. Next we have Yes, ma’am

Example 2:
A certain bacterium, given favorable growth conditions, grow
continuously at a rate of 5.4% a day. Find the bacterial
population after twenty-four hours, if the initial population was
500 bacteria.
When you read a problem that suggests growth continuously,
you should be thinking "continuously-compounded growth
formula". For this situation, the formula is

where A= population after a certain period

P0=initial population
r =rate of change(growth rate but sometimesis called decay rate)
t=time ¿
minutes , hours , days , etc .¿
Solution:
Given: P=500 r =5.4 %∨O .O 54 t=1 day

Find A.

Note: 24 hours is converted to 1 day because the growth rate

was expressed in terms
of a given percentage per day.

Can someone substitute the given to our formula?

Therefore, there will be about 528 bacteria after twenty-four

hours.

Do you understand?

Example 3: A=500 e

Immanuel deposits Php 10 000 in a bank that pays 3% A=¿527.74

A=13 842.34
After 11 years, Immanuel will have Php 13 842.34

.
P = 5000
Exponential Inequality r = 5%
Example 4: t=1
How much of an initial investment would you need for it
to be worth at least Php 10 000, if it is compounded
yearly at 5% interest over 4 years?

A=P(1+r )t
Given:
A = 10 000
r = 5% or 0.05
t = 4 years
P= ?

P(1+r )t =A
t
P(1+r ) ≥ A
P(1+0.05)4 ≥ 10 000
10 000
P≥ 4
(1+ 0.05)
P ≥ 8227.02
The initial investment is Php 8227.02.
Yes, ma’am
C. Engagement Activity:
Analyze the given problem and answer the questions that
follow:

1. In the early stages of the COVID-19 epidemic in the

Philippines, there were 50 persons infected but each day the
number rose by 5%. After how many days would about 300
persons be infected?

2. Mr. Jolo deposited an amount of ₱20,000.00 in a bank that

gives 3% annual interest compounded monthly. How much
money will he have in the bank after 4 years?
D. Assimilation 1.What are the common application of exponential functions,
equations, and inequalities to real-life situations?
