Osmosis: A Form of Facilitated Diffusion

In osmosis, a form of diffusion, water molecules move from an area of higher concentration to
an area of lower concentration.

Directions: Each of the following beakers show cells (circles) in a solution of the solvent (water) and
solutes. Draw arrows to show the direction the water will flow and the direction the solute will flow. Then
state whether the solution of the cell or beaker is hypertonic, hypotonic, or isotonic.

= Solute = Solvent (Water)

Example 1: Example 2:

The solution of the beaker is: The solution of the cell is:
Hypotonic Hypotonic
