Based from the story of some old inhabitants BUENAVISTA is a name given by the Spanish
Missionaries during Spanish era to this place. Before the colonization of Spaniard, Buenavista
was called “KATAHUGAN” because a lot of “NAWI” grown in this place that caused the first
colonizer name this place. Katahugan is a kind of Nawi that is use for tying up by the aborigines
of this place. After then came the Spaniards who discovered the new name in exchange for
Katahugan. While Spanish missionaries were at board by sea, they saw environmental structure
at the seashore of this place that caused them be amazed. This environmental structure is
called “Angas” by the constituents of this place. They overlook this Angas as a Ship like but it is a
big stone structure allegedly with cave inside of it. While continue sailing at the sea, their naked
eyes saw at the horizon the amazing beauty of falling down sun in the afternoon which is called
Sunset and at the Northeast direction of it is a good looking structure of Mount Isarog. These
beautiful views can be seen while taking a rest or having fun or leisure time at the seashore or
even while sailing at the sea. This instance brought them to change the name of this Barangay
from Katahugan to BUENAVISTA which means “GOOD VIEW/SIGHT”.

The reign of Spaniards in this Barangay lasted for a decade. With them was the belief of
Catholicism that they engraved to the mind and soul of Buenavistanean. Spaniards also brought
a Patron Saint in this Barangay named under Saint Anthony de Padua wherein the celebration of
its Feast day is June 12 - 13. Spanish cultures and behavior were inherited by the constituents of
this barangay and remain being done and exercised even after their colonization.

Japanese also came over to Buenavista but they did not change its name rather they kept
on hunting the constituents and be punished until they die. Women then were kept on hiding to
free themselves become sex-slaves by the Japanese. Residents of Buenavista believed that
Japanese has plenty of treasure that they safe kept scattered under the ground.

Buenavista is a coastal place with a land area of 1,059 hectares and 8 kilometers away from
Tinambac proper. It is located at the Southern part of Tinambac wherein coco farmland and sea
are the main sources of living.

Teniente del Barrio was the leader in this place during the ruin of Spaniard. The first
teniente del barrio of Buenavista was Mr. Godofredo Jovillano followed by Mr. Evaresto Delos
Santos and Mr. Cosme Celes. After this, a new generation came over to this place for a new
beginning.
