Should We Give Importance to Mental Health Awareness?

- Argumentative Speech

By: Ronalyn E. Aguilar ABEL 2A

“It’s okay to not be okay” Do you believe in that Korean Series Title?
Well, probably those persons who suffer often from being down will relate, but
those who are not, will never be. We are in a silent battle and worst thing is
that, we are fighting within our selves.
What is mental health? Mental Health includes our emotional,
psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel and act. It
also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make
healthy choices. Now, what is mental health awareness? It is the ongoing
effort to reduce the stigma around mental health illness and mental health
conditions by sharing our personal experience. Often, because of
misconceptions about mental health and mental fitness, people often suffer in
silence and their conditions go untreated.
Based on what I saw, mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety
is unpredictable, it may happen anytime but often when people are alone and
there's no one beside them. Now, how important to be aware to this kind of
illness. Based on the Department of Health (DOH) there are around 3.6
Million Filipinos who are facing mental health issues. Again there are 3.6
Million Filipinos who are in a silent battle.
If the Government didn’t do anything to make people aware in this kind
of illnesses, we can now predict that the number of people who will suffer from
suicide will increase in the future. During the pandemic, education is put into
online basis, thus student are required to attend online class. On the other
hand, the big problem of every student who are not born with privilege is the
cellphone and the internet not the pandemic itself. Although I believe that the
government do such counter measures in giving people assistance during
pandemic but I also believe that the family will think what they primarily
needed such as food and the other needs of their children will put to last.
Student will chose to not attend online classes. And some didn’t take the
pressure of this kind of set up, they suffer mental breakdown and it ends up
committing suicide like what happen to a student in Sta. Elena, Iriga City.
Anxiety and Depression is not a joke, mental illness is a silent killer. If this is
continuously happening the number of people who died from this kind of
illness will rise.
Before I end, I just want to give some reminders that anyone can suffer
to mental breakdown, its inevitable, but we can help people by ensuring them
that we got there back. They need people to talk to, they need people to
listen. A simple “How are you?” to your friend will save them from their silent
battle. It’s a matter of small acts that will lead to a bigger impact to other
people, to our society and to our country. Let’s support mental health
awareness.
The Fight that I Never Quit
- Narrative Speech

By: Ronalyn E. Aguilar ABEL 2A

I laugh, I cry, I speak, I stay quiet, I complain, I still do it, I want to quit
but I choose to fight. Life is not a straight path, it has curves, it has a bumpy
ride, but what important is, no matter what it looks like we still choose to
continue. There are a lot of chance that I think of quitting, but here I am still
fighting.
I may seem unlucky in life but I consider myself lucky in some ways. I
came from a broken family, but the people around me complete it. I consider
myself unprivileged, but the people around me give what I need. I ask God for
several times why I experience it, and here I am realizing that what ever
happened it has purpose. If I quit on times that circumstances challenge me, I
no longer giving this speech to all of you.
I should always bare in mind that quitting is not the solution to a
problem I am facing, nor avoiding it is not a way. It’s okay to fall, its okay to
loose, thus it is a very good experience to learned. Mistakes is inevitable, we
often learn from it. I believe that the most effective way to learned is base on
our mistake.
I thought life is easy, but in reality it is tough it has a lot of turns to take,
it has a lot of stop to make but what matters most is no matter how many
times I stop, I only take a rest and after that I continue. I always wanted to be
remember, the way that I wanted. I want to remember as a strong willed
woman who does not give up easily. A woman being the best version of
herself through different test that life bring. Therefor, my life is the fight that I
never quit.
