Assignment-III
We first make a directory for the folder and then we select the objects we want to work on like: polygon,
polyline, point, etc.
i) Region of interest(polygon)
ii) Banks (points)
iv) Layers
2) Carry out union, intersection, dissolve, clip, buffer
i) Union
union combines both the region of interest and any polygon
or any polyline.
Tool location
This tool is located on the Analysis toolbar
In the Overlay and then we will see
Union.
Dialog box
in the dialog box we
must select or drag
the two regions that
we want to combine
and combine and result
in another .shp file
OUTPUT
ii) Intersection
this tool helps in coming out with the result such that
the common between the two regions will give us the
output
Tool Location
This tool is located on the analysis toolbar
under the overlay section and we will find
the toolbar there.
Dialog Box
In the dialog box we need to select the region
that we want to have the common intersection
OUTPUT
iii)Dissolve
This tool is used to merge the whole region by a
certain parameters that is present in the
attribute table which falls under a certain
sub name
Tool Location
This tool is located on the toolbar tab
and under Data Management tool we will
find the Generalization tab and under that
tab we can find Dissolve
Dialog box
In the dialog box we need to select the
attribute by which we want to dissolve
the region.
OUTPUT
iv) Clip
This clip tool is used when we want to cut certain portion of
something with respect to the other region. For example
we want to cut the polyline of the river w.r.t Region A
Tool Location
This tool is located on the Extract tool in the Analysis tools
tab and further in the Extract we will get the Clip option
Dialog Box
In the dialog box we need to supply the
input feature as the one that we want
to be cut and the clip feature as the
one to cut
Output
v) Buffer
The Buffer tool is used to show the extension
to a certain portion of the polyline or polygon
or anything in a particular direction.
For example, if we add a buffer to river, we can
show how much does the river affect that part-
cular portion
Toolbox
The Buffer tool can be found in the
Analysis toolbar option and then Proximity
and then we get Buffer option
Dialog box
In the dialog box we have to input the feature
as the one in which we want to buffer
and we have to give the direction and the
value by how much we want to buffer it.
Output
3) Attribute Table
i) Banks
Step 1 : right click on the bank which appear on the layer panel
Step 2 : select the attribute table from the box that appears.
In the attribute table we can see different characteristics related to the particular bank.
For example, name, id, operator, co-ordinate, etc.
We can also edit the thickness, colour, properties of the lines from the layer table by
selecting the symbol below the river option in the layer panel.
