Promotion Of Piggery Entrepreneur

1.0 Executive Summery.

Pork demand in Mizoram could never be met from local production. Most of the
market demand is imported from Myanmar and a few percentages from the neighbouring
states. There was a very great awakening in pig farming recently. But due to high initial
cost most of them could not survived without financial support.
It is a very great blessing that National Livestock Mission (NLM) provide the
scheme for business opportunity and entrepreneur in the field of rural poultry.

2.0 Project Objectives

The project mainly focusses on Semi-Indoor system where cover area and open
area shall be provided in each pen. Godown cum store and Kitchen shed would also be
constructed. This Semi-indoor system is suitable in Mizoram with consideration of
hygienic requirement. Therefore the main objective of the project is to produce healthy pig
at favorable environment with consideration of pig hygiene.

3.0 Design

1) The building is designed mainly based on IS:3916-1966:-Code of Practice for Pig

Housing.
2) For Covered area, Height of the wall is kept at 2.50m, for external wall Brick wall
would be used and for internal wall, wire net or locally available materials such as
bamboo or local wood shall be used
3) . For open area, height of wall shall be 1.20m, where locally available materials or
wire net shall be used.
4) Roofing shall be GCI roofing
5) Flooring shall be compacted earth finished with cement plaster.
6) The project considered construction of the following Sty.

i) Boar Sty for 10 boar. Each pen shall have 1 boar, Cover area = 7.5 Sqm, open
area= 12.00 sqm
ii) Sow Stay for 100 sows: There will be 10 pen in one building. Each pen shall
have 5 sows. Covered area= 10.00 sqm, open area = 9.00 sqm.

Two Sow Sty will be constructed for Sow

iii) Farrowing Sty for 50 sows: There will be 50 pen in one building. Each pen shall
have 1 sow with piglets. For each pen, Covered area= 7.50 sqm, open area =
9.00 sqm.
iv) Fattening Sty for 300 pigs: There will be 20 pen in one building. Each pen shall
have 15 pigs. For each pen, Covered area= 22.50 sqm, open area = 25.00 sqm.

 Two fattening Sty will be constructed.

v) Sick stay for 20 sick animals : There will be 10 pen in one building. Each pen
shall have 2 pigs. For each pen, Covered area= 7.50 sqm, open area = 12.00
sqm.
vi) GODOWN CUM STORE & KITCHEN SHED: Godown cum Kitchen shed which
are part and parcel of the farming project are included in the project.

4.0 Business and Entrepreneur Opportunity.

Pork is still in great demand in Mizoram.. Local production is not sufficient to

supply the local demand.

The project aims at yealy production of pigs for meat 450 nos and 300 nos of
piglet

At present, one kg of pork is Rs.400/kg, while one year pig roughly cost
Rs.30000-Rs.40000 depends on size. Piglet cost Rs.8000-10000

For Project profitability projection, cost of one pig is taken as Rs.25000/pig &
piglet as Rs.7500/each, financial analysis has been done for 7 years.
Cost Benefit Ratio (CBR) at Constant price is 2.06 and at 10% discount is 1.32

This shows the profitability of the project.

5.0 Land.
Land is owned by the promoter.

6.0 Time.
The construction period shall be 3 (three) months.
