Katy: — Hi, Barbara! How are you?

Barbara: — Hi, Katy! Oh, I’m so tired! We’ve had two test papers today. Is there anything worth seeing on TV
tonight?
K.: — Haven’t the least of idea. But we can see what’s on. Could you pass me the magazine, I’ll have a look.

Here you are. I heard there would be a comedy with Sarah Parker after the news programme.
K.: —Yes, it starts at twenty to eight. Sorry, but there’s a football match between Arsenal and Manchester United
at eight sharp. I’ve been waiting for it for a week. I can’t miss it.
B.: — You’re kidding! As far as I know, you’ve never been interested in football until now. I guess this is
because your boy-friend Bob is keen on football.
K.: — He’s not only crazy about it, but he’s player number one in the school team. But you aren’t right. Though
I prefer bas¬ketball to football, I try not to miss matches with Manchester United. It’s my favourite team. Bye
the way, I like watching swimming competitions and tennis matches toe.
B. — Have a look. They might repeat the match early in the morning tomorrow. At least they usually do it.
A'.. — Yes, here it is! It starts at 7 a.m. A little bit early, but that’s OK. I can watch it tomorrow.
B.: —So then, let’s see the comedy. I heard it was quite good.
K.: —I don’t really feel like. Why not watch this talk show with Parkinson?
B.: —This sounds good. I’m not against challenging programmes! And we could watch this music programme.
with all the stars after it.
K.: —By the way, it’s time for the news on Channel 2.
B.: —I don’t think I will be happy to listen to all these things. I’m sick and tired of tragedies, crises, crashes and
so on.
K.: —So am I, but I need to know what is going on in the world. I’m to write a report about the situation with
this ship captured by the pirates.
B.: —Oh dear! Those pirates again! For me the best news would be the weather forecast for the weekend.
K.: — I’m afraid this won’t make you happy either. They promise showers and winds during the day.
B.: —Well I never!

Listen to the talk between Victor and a receptionist of the club. Mark statements (1—15) below the text as T (true) or F (false).

Receptionist: — Good-morning, Sir, Lion Club. How can I help you?

Victor: — Good-morning, Madam, I would like to have some information about your club. I’m interested in
membership and facilities you offer.
R.: — With pleasure. What would you like to know?
V.: — How much is your membership and do you have any reductions for students?
R.: — It depends on how often you would like to attend.
V.: — Do you have swimming classes?
R.: — We have a wonderful swimming pool. It has been under reconstruction. But it is due to reopen in a week.
We have refurbished lounges, rest rooms and the sauna. It is more spacious now and more people can fit. But
if you are interested in individual cabins — they will be available too.
V.: — What about tennis courts and tennis classes? I heard you’ve got experienced tennis coaches, aren’t I right?
R.: — Sorry, sir, unfortunately we don’t have tennis courts. You might be talking about the
neighbouring club Silver Lion. They do have tennis courts and highly professional coaches. But there’s no
swimming pool there. They’ve been practicing tennis classes and activities for ages. They have both
outdoor and indoor courts as well as lots of other facilities such as golf and baseball, which we don’t have.
But Silver Lion is for very wealthy people and VIPs. Our club is available for people with average
income, for those who want to pay for good facilities but not for luxury. We also cater for who live on a
tight budget, especially students, anc .'t afford to waste money. We have reasonable prices and cellent
facilities.
.«■ Oh, I see. Yes, I remember it was Silver Lion in the ad came across the other day. Anyway I’d like to know
all about swimming pool. Do you have underwater aerobics?
— Sure, our standard price is 50 pounds a month and you can attend two classes a week, which is rather
inexpensive compared with others. Our coach is a very pleasant young lady, highly qualified and able. As a
matter of fact, many local university students attend her classes. They are satisfied and happy.
V.: — What other facilities can you offer at present?
R.: — Oh, you can take diving lessons. You know diving has become very popular lately. Also you can relax in a
jacuzzi. We can offer some treatment — special baths with herbs.
V— What about relaxing after exercise? Is there a caf or bar?
R.: — At the moment we have a Mexican bar which is very popular with our clients. We are also planning to

pounds, which makes about 10 pounds a month. You’ll be able to take up a sport and attend twice a week
between 6-8 p.m.
V.: — That sounds well. Rather convenient. I’ll think it over and call in a couple of days. Bye.
