The collimator on any AMX Radiographic X-ray unit may come loose from the X-
ray tube if any of the following fasteners are not properly torqued:

D four or eight screws securing the port plate to the X-ray tube
D four screws securing the interface plate to the port plate, or
D three screws securing the collimator to the collimator interface plate.

All new and reloaded X-ray tubes from the G.E. Reload Facility will have the

collimator interface plate mounted to the tube when the tube is shipped. If
this is a reloaded X-ray tube, the interface plate is aligned at the reload facilĆ
ity and the mounting screws are properly torqued.

All mobile radiographic X-ray units should be inspected during routine or scheduled
maintenance to confirm that the interface between the collimator and X-ray tube is
secure.

Grasp the collimator and check for movement. Any sign of collimator movement indiĆ
cates that some of the interface fasteners are improperly torqued.

" If the interface plate is not secure, you will have to re-align the collimator
and check SID using the alignment procedure in the collimator service manuĆ
al supplied with your unit.

If the collimator is secure, verify mounting screws tightness for torque specifications per
Section 2.5, then install the collimator.

If the collimator is not secure, perform the Fastener Inspection and Torquing ProceĆ
dure in Section 2 to inspect and properly torque collimator fasteners.

 # ! " !

A standard serviceman's tool kit with the following tools and materials are required to
perform the Fastener Inspection and Torquing Procedure in Section 2.

D Loctite 290
D Isopropyl Alcohol
D 2 to 36 inch pound (0.23 to 4.07 N-m) torque driver (46-282782P1)
D 40 to 200 inch pound (4.25 to 22.5 N-m) torque wrench (46-315668P1)
D 16i rope for securing the horizontal arm

1. Close the collimator blades.

2. Rotate the X-ray tube and collimator assembly so that collimator crosshair winĆ
dow is facing upward. See Illustration 1.

The collimator interface plate for every new and reloaded tube from the GE
Reload Facility is factory aligned and should not be disturbed. If plate alignĆ
ment is altered, the plate will have to be re-aligned in the field.

1. Set the torque driver to 32-35 inch pounds (3.6-3.95 N-m).

The X-ray tube port plate screws are secured with Loctite 290 at installation.
Do not break the bond when inspecting port plate screws.

2. Refer to Illustration 3. One by one, turn each 1/4-20 x 0.625I port plate screw
in a clockwise direction until the torque driver clicks, to ensure that each screw
is securely fastened.

If a screw is loose, continue with step 3.

If all the screws are secure, go to step 1 of Section 2-4.

3. If a screw is loose, back it off 1-2 turns or until it contacts the collimator interface
plate. See Illustration 3.

Loctite 290 has a low viscosity and, like a wick, will draw down around screw
threads.

4. Apply a drop of Loctite 290 to screw threads. Allow the Loctite one minute to
penetrate. See Illustration 3.

5. Refer to Illustration 3. Torque screw to 32-35 inch pounds (3.6-3.95 N-m).

Use Isopropyl alcohol to remove any residual solution from surrounding area.

6. Using the procedure provided in step 2, check each of the remaining screws.

The collimator interface plate for every new and reloaded tube is factory
aligned and should not be disturbed. If the plate is loose, you will have to re-
align the collimator.

1. Refer to Illustration 3. Without loosening any of the four fasteners, check that
collimator interface place is mounted securely to the port plate.

If the interface plate is loose, use the alignment procedure provided in the on-
site collimator service manual to re-align the collimator and check SID.

If the interface plate , go to step 2.

2. Ensure the integrity of interface plate fastener torques by torquing each of the
four 10-32 x 0.5I screws to 32-35 inch pounds (3.6-3.95 N-m). See IllustraĆ
tion 3.

2. Refer to Illustration 2. Turn the collimator upside down and carefully insert the
cone in the tube port.

Align collimator and interface plate mounting holes.

3. Refer to Illustration 2. Secure the collimator to the interface plate with three
10-24 x 0.75" mounting screws.

Torque collimator mounting screws to 50 inch poiunds (5.6 N-m).

4. Turn the circuit breaker to the ON position.

5. Turn the key switch to the ON position.

6. Free the horizontal arm by untying and removing the 16' length of rope used to
secure the arm to the base of the unit.

7. Move the horizontal arm assembly to the front position.

8. Rotate the X-ray tube and collimator assembly so that collimator crosshair win-
dow is facing down.

9. Open the collimator blades.

10. Grasp the collimator and check for movement.
