1. Give the definition of cooling system, (5pts)

- apparatus employed to keep the temperature of a structure or device from
exceeding limits imposed by needs of safety and efficiency. If overheated, the oil
in a mechanical transmission loses its lubricating capacity, while the fluid in a
hydraulic coupling or converter leaks under the pressure created.
2. Discuss the operation of the cooling system. (5pts)
- carries heat away from the engine
- maintains the operating temperature by circulating coolant through the engine
3. Define the different parts of the cooling system and its function.(10pts)
- Water pump - a belt-driven pump that derives its power from the engine's
crankshaft.
- Freeze plugs - small, cylindrical-shaped plugs that are used to fill the passages
in an engine created by the sand cores.
- Thermostat - Its job is to regulate the amount of coolant that is recirculated back
into the engine and how much is cooled via the radiator prior to being
recirculated.
- Radiator - the central component of a vehicle's cooling system.
- Cooling fans - It is sited just in front of the car's radiator, and is electrically
powered.
- Heat core - a small radiator that warms the car's cabin using hot coolant from the
engine.
- Pressure cap - regulates the maximum pressure, preventing damage to the
hoses and radiator.
- Overflow tank - stores excess coolant that spills from the radiator
- Radiator fan - pulls cooling air through the car's radiator.

4. In your own knowledge and understanding about cooling system, list (5) causes
of engine overheat (2Pts each)
- Cooling system leaks
- Radiator getting rusty.
- Too little coolant. Driving without proper levels of coolant may cause a cooling
system failure.
- Water pump have broken parts
- Thermostat has issues that may cause to engine overheating or coolant failure
