OptiShift – Volvo Wheel Loaders L150F – L220F

This bulletin includes information regarding the optional OptiShift.

OptiShift (Sales code WL39002)

Description
The new optional fuel saving equipment, OptiShift, will be introduced for L150F-L220F. This equipment features:

• New torque converter with lock-up and free wheel stator

• Volvo patented Reverse By Braking (RBB)

Torque converter with lock-up and free wheel stator

To prevent losses in the torque converter, e.g. when

operating at a constant speed, the pump rotor and the
turbine rotor inside the torque converter are locked together
through a direct drive clutch which is called Lock-up.

The transmission offers smooth shifting with the automatic

lock-up in second, third and fourth gear.

This feature provides improved productivity, reduced cycle

times and fuel savings in Load/Carry, Transport and Hill-
climb operations.

The lock-up function is activated by a switch on the cab post

panel. When the lock up clutch is engaged an indicator is
activated in the centre of the dash board.

Reverse By Braking (RBB)

The Volvo patented RBB is a braking feature that automatically

assists the machine’s deceleration by applying the standard
service brake instead of the torque converter.

It applies when the operator uses the “Gear selector control” for
changing direction of operation (Reverse/Forward or
Forward/Reverse). Its advantage is mostly in short cycle loading /
truck loading.

Remarks

• The RBB can not be deactivated by the operator or VCADS-pro.

• The service brake will take priority over the RBB, if the operator applies the service brake pedal.
