First day of Exposure (October 10, 2022- Monday)

On the first day of exposure in Barangay Crossing Bayabas, we were assigned to a
family with a pregnant woman. Then, after that, we do ask questions and assess the
family for the Initial Data Base.

A. Reflection

I was a little nervous on my first day of duty in the community of Barangay Crossing
Bayabas because I'm not very good at communicating with other people, especially
since we have to talk to them in Bisaya. I am not fluent in Bisaya because my
native language is Ilonggo, but I do understand some Bisaya words. I was just
worried about how to translate some words into Bisaya. Aside from being nervous
and anxious, I was also exhausted. We were exhausted because we had just
walked to our assigned area, which was quite far from the center, in the heat of the
sun. I'm not used to long walks, even though we have umbrellas. Despite all of
these emotions, I enjoyed it because I could relate to the family I interviewed with.
I, too, come from a large family, and memories flashed through my mind as I
listened to the family. The experience I had that day taught me that it didn't matter
how big the house was as long as it was filled with love.

B. Action

I should practice using Bisaya words whenever I have to communicate with others
so that I have the confidence to communicate with the people in the community and
for them to understand what I'm trying to explain. I also need to practice walking
long distances in the heat of the sun. Most importantly, in order to establish a good
rapport, I should adapt to the people in the community and empathize with the
family.

Second day of Exposure (October 11, 2022- Tuesday)

On the second day of exposure, we returned to the family that had been assigned
to us. Then we resume our incomplete data collection and family assessment. In addition,
in children aged 6 years and under, we administer the Metro Manila Developmental
Screening Test (MMDST) to assess the normalcy of the child's development and to
identify any delays.

A. Reflection

I had a lot of fun during my duty on the second day of exposure because I hadn't
played with so many children in a long time. To be honest, it was unexpected
because there was no child in the family we interviewed, so we assumed we
couldn't perform the MMDST until Jericah and I decided to go to the river and saw
a lot of children aged 6 and under. We approached them, asked their parents for
permission, and explained what we were going to do. Luckily, the parents agreed,
and we began performing the MMDST. However, we are concerned about how to
proceed because there are five of them and we only need one child for the
MMDST. So Jericah and I decided to divide them, one for her, which would be the
focus of our MMDST, and the rest for me so that other children wouldn't be jealous.
Jericah completed the test, but I did not due to a lack of materials. We bought them
candies and chocolates after the MMDST because they did an excellent job. It
made me so happy to see their wide smiles as we handed them their prizes.
Despite the fact that there were a lot of them, I did not feel tired, but rather happy.

B. Action

I should keep learning how to interact with children because this will be a stepping
stone in my career path. One of my goals after finishing nursing school is to
become a pediatrician, which I know will be difficult given the number of difficult
children I've played with. As a result, one of my top priorities must be to address
issues affecting a child's family and home environment. Furthermore, adjusting to
the children in the community would be a good start toward achieving my goals.

Third day of exposure (October 13, 2022- Wednesday)

On the final day of the exposure, we returned to the family that had been assigned
to us. Then we resume our incomplete data collection and family assessment. We also
tested our pregnant client's urine for sugar and albumin, performed Leopold's maneuver,
and took other people's blood pressure.

A. Reflection

During the final day of the exposure, I felt glad and motivated because we were
able to complete the family assessment and different tests for a pregnant
woman. We performed the urine test and Leopold’s maneuver with normal
results. Apart from that we also got the chance to take the blood pressure of
other people. Overall, it was a fruitful experience because we are able to apply
the learnings and skills, we had during our return demonstration. As a result of
this experience, I was inspired to pursue this career where I am happy to help
those in the community and willing to serve them someday.

B. Action

Whenever I have the chance to serve others, I should grab it because it will help
me improve my skills and broaden my experiences. As a nursing student, I have
the opportunity to heal the minds, hearts, and bodies of my clients and their
families. They may forget my name, but they will never forget how I made them
feel. As a result, I should never lose my enthusiasm for love, patience, empathy,
care, and service. I must remain inspired and motivated in order for me to
achieve the RN degree.
