1. Newspapers are having enormous influence on people ideas and opinions. Why is this
the case? Is it a positive or negative situation?

With the advent of information age, newspapers still play an essential role
in shaping people’s thoughts on a wide range of issues. Hence, it is
imperative that we should analyze possible reasons giving rise to this
phenomenon objectively and figure out its boons as well as banes.

From my own perspective, the causes for this phenomenon are manifold.
To be specific, the news from newspapers has been censored strictly
before publication compared with that from the Internet, which leads to the
fact that the public are inclined to place greater trust in newspapers. In
addition, newspapers contain more in-depth coverage than the Internet,
which will impose more profound influences on people’s thoughts. Not to
mention that gaining information from newspapers has been a long-
established habit so that people’s ideas tend to be swayed by the content
offered by them.

It has to be admitted that compared with the Internet, the process of

gaining information from newspapers is time-consuming since it has to be
through the edition, adjustment and approval before it could be printed
out, which cannot keep in line with ever-accelerated living tempo.
However, we cannot lose sight of the fact that because of these careful
authorized steps, most of the resources are confirmed and dependable,
which is the reason why newspaper is still considered as quite influential
medium among people. Needless to say, it is tangible and portable so that
people can read it without limitation.

Based on the analysis mentioned above, although the Internet serves an

increasingly crucial function in the process of obtaining information,
newspapers are still of paramount importance in people’s daily life.

2. As part of education, students should spend a period of time studying and living in a
different country to learn its language and culture. To what extent do you agree or
disagree?

With sweeping trend of globalization, different countries are blessed with a

fertile period of mutual communication in various fields. Under this
circumstance, an absolute consensus can hardly be reached whether
students should go abroad for some time with the aim to have a clear

1
IELTS ĐÌNH LONG
ĐỀ CƯƠNG WRITING tháng 1,2,3,4 – 2022
picture of local language and culture. For my part, it depends on one’s
willingness and his/her financial condition.

It is universally acknowledged that through living in a foreign country,

individuals can be equipped with more opportunities to contact with native
speakers, which leads to the fact that their listening and speaking skills can
be improved swiftly and immensely. Undoubtedly, learning atmosphere is of
paramount importance in one’s better grasp of a language. Accordingly,
only focusing on academic knowledge from books is far inferior to the
interaction with local residents in everyday life. Not to mention that better
understanding of cultures does a great job in grasping and utilizing its
language better. In effect, such experience of living a totally different culture
not only diversifies one’s outlook of the world, but also places him/her in a
more favorable position in future competition.

However, we cannot lose sight of the fact that although there is a growing
tendency for youngsters to go for further study in a foreign country, it is not
necessarily so. without sufficient motivation and specific goal, one may
benefit little from the behavior of going abroad, which has been proved
firmly by numerous examples of failed overseas students. In addition, with
the advent of information age, people can gain swift and convenient access
to various learning materials and opportunities on foreign language and
culture through mass media, such as TV, video and the Internet. It is a much
safer and cheaper option for many students, especially those from
disadvantaged group

In a nutshell, I am convinced that it is an absolute blessing for more

students to study in a foreign country for the sake of local language and
culture, but more channels and platforms have been offered to those in their
own countries to achieve the same purpose.

3. Some people believe that the only purpose of films is to entertain, others says that
films also have educational value. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

The world’s movie industry has witnessed unprecedented boom in recent

years. Under this circumstance, an absolute consensus can hardly be
reached whether the film should arouse people’s deeper thought or just
amuse them. I will make an objective analysis of this argument in my
following essay.

2
IELTS ĐÌNH LONG
ĐỀ CƯƠNG WRITING tháng 1,2,3,4 – 2022

Some people harbor the belief that with ever-accelerated living tempo and
fierce competition, people in increasing number are inclined to have a busy
schedule and lead a stressful life. In this case, films can provide them with
an ideal channel and platform for relaxation and leisure. After exhausting
work of the whole day, people can appreciate wonderful films in the cinema
with their friends and family members, which will relieve the pressure,
lighten up the mood and refresh the spirit. Accordingly, they will throw
themselves into new challenges with greater enthusiasm and initiative

However, others maintain that a lot of movies whether it is science fiction,

action, or even thriller are very much based on real life scenario and indeed
one can learn enormously by watching movies that have an implication on
real life. For example, the Pursuit of Happiness, starring Will Smith is
definitely a great movie worth watching. It depicts a single father who lived
a hard life and tried to climb the social ladder, he tries a lot of professions
and ended up being in a total disaster. Eventually, with great determination,
perseverance and will power he became a successful stock broker. It is very
touching and inspiring.

From my own perspective, both functions the film serves do not fall into a
conflict, which should go hand in hand with each other. To be specific,
entertainment films can help people free from overwhelming work and
assignments, especially in current society full of rat-race. Meanwhile,
serious movies are cherished as treasures which are appreciated as often
as possible. Each viewing will bring about fresh thoughts or deeper
comprehension. In fact, films in increasing number are figuring out a rational
balance between the two functions.

4. An increasing number of people are changing their careers. What are the reasons?
Do you think it is positive or negative?

Job hopping is more common in developed countries like America or

France. But even in countries traditionally renowned for job security or

3
IELTS ĐÌNH LONG
ĐỀ CƯƠNG WRITING tháng 1,2,3,4 – 2022
life-long employment, people are getting used to employment change.
The causes are manifold

On the employers’ side, many of them no longer offer adequate pensions

and fringe benefits to their long-time employees. Thus, employees see no
point in working there all the time and are ready to leave because the
financial loss will be inconsequential. Besides, long-time employees are
no longer highly valued by the management. Many companies prefer a
change of blood from time to time to maintain their competitiveness and
vitality. Older workers are replaced because they long lost their
enthusiasm for work and hamper innovation by always doing things the
old way.

However, employees also have their reasons to seek new employment.

Most of them would leave a job when they feel there is nothing to learn
from doing that job. Due to intense competition, people see the need to
improve their abilities and competitiveness by acquiring as much work
experience as possible. Moreover, people nowadays are more concerned
about their interest in work. The first job they find may be boring but an
indispensable stepping stone towards worthier employment. More often
than not, they never know what they are after until they find it. The
promise of better things to come keeps them hopping from one job to
another.

My advice to young people would be to follow your heart. Life is very

long, there is no point sticking to one job unless you really enjoy it. Try
until you get the job where your interest lies. Besides, everything changes
over time, including you and your interest. So, when you feel the urge to
change, go for it.

5. More and more people want to buy famous brands of clothes, cars and other items.
What are the reasons? Do you think it is a positive or negative development?

4
IELTS ĐÌNH LONG
ĐỀ CƯƠNG WRITING tháng 1,2,3,4 – 2022

Surveys indicate that people in increasing number have a tendency to

buy goods of famous brands. The reasons behind this phenomenon and
its impacts will be discussed in the following essay.

It is understandable for consumers to choose branded products due to

the lack of specialized knowledge. Admittedly, the popularity of certain
brands represents the quality of the products and the reputation of the
producers. Accordingly, many of them prefer to choose well-known
brands when they are confronted with various goods of the same kind,
such as clothes, cars and other items. Another important reason worth
mentioning is sense of vanity, which is considered as human nature. In
most cases, using famous brands is normally a symbol of taste and
social status, even if their qualities are not necessarily superior to
ordinary ones. Meanwhile, as an increasing number of people are getting
wealthy, there is a growing demand for famous brands, not to mention
that some people who cannot really afford them also follow the trend.

Doubtlessly, buying famous brands can give consumers better

experience and meet the requirements of people who pursue high-quality
life. However, its negative impacts also should not be ignored. Most
important of all, it may lead to incorrect values among the general public,
since some people tend to compete over material things, which is
particularly harmful to teenagers’ growth. A typical example of this is that
young school children in developing countries are commonly fascinated
by imported sportswear and shoes. Even if some families have no
sufficient financial ability to cover those items, children may still ask for
buying simply because someone in their school owns them.

To sum up, I believe that using famous brands is a personal choice and
there is nothing wrong about it. Nevertheless, this tendency should not
be encouraged since its drawbacks are beyond doubt.

6. In some countries, more people choose to live by themselves in recent years. Why is
it case? Is it a positive or negative development for society?

5
IELTS ĐÌNH LONG
ĐỀ CƯƠNG WRITING tháng 1,2,3,4 – 2022

In recent years, living alone has become increasingly normal around the
world, especially in those major cities. There could be several reasons
why this is the case, and I believe that it has both positive and negative
effects on our society.

There are various reasons why many people choose to live by

themselves. Firstly, because of urbanization and globalization, a growing
number of people of working age have to live in cities far away from their
hometown, especially those who just graduate from universities. As they
do not want to disturb or be disturbed by their parents, they prefer to live
by themselves. Besides, the increasing awareness of independence may
also have an impact on the choice of how to live. In addition, the
convenient transport, such as railway and airplane and technology like
mobile phones could meet the demand for contacting with our family
members and friends both physically and emotionally, which provides the
greater possibility for us to live on our own.

In my view, the rapid increase in the number of one-person households

has both beneficial and detrimental effects on our community. From the
perspective of economy, the trend of living individually could lead to the
increasing demand for housing, which could boost construction industry,
real estate, bank and other related industries which provide services and
products for homeowners. On the other hand, people living alone for a
long time might suffer from depression and feel isolated since they lack a
sense of community, which is not good for neighborliness.

In conclusion, living by oneself has become an irresistible trend, which

means that we have no alternative but to embrace the boons and banes
brought about by it. When we enjoy the merits caused by living alone, we
should endeavor to diminish the demerits to the least extent.

7. Nowadays, children spend a lot of time watching TV and playing computer games.
Some people believe this has negative effects on children’s mental abilities. To what
extent do you agree or disagree?

With the advent of information age TV and computers have found their
own ways into every corner of people’s daily life. Under this
circumstance, an absolute consensus can hardly be reached whether it is
a curse for students to dedicate a large amount of time to watching TV
and playing computer games. For my part, I side with advocates to some
extent.

No one can conceal the fact that overindulgence in the screen of TV and
computers will impose negative influences on children’s mental abilities.
To be specific, there is excessive meaningless and indecent information
from TV and cyber games. In this case, most children are not equipped
with enough ability to distinguish right from wrong and inclined to imitate
some misconducts blindly, which will affect their minds adversely. In
addition, watching TV or playing computer games for a long time will
make children addicted to virtual world and isolated from real society.
Accordingly, they will suffer from psychological problems on the grounds
that humans are after all sociable creatures who need face-to-face
contact regularly.

However, it does not mean children should completely avoid watching TV

and playing computer games. For one thing, through watching TV, they
can gain swift and convenient access to the latest information and
important events, which will keep them in line with the times. For another,
computer games can make children familiar with new technologies, by
which they will foster their abilities of creative thinking and fast reaction.
Not to mention that TV and cyber games provide them with an ideal
channel and platform to relieve their pressure and refresh their spirit after
exhausting study. In this case, they will throw themselves into new
challenges with greater enthusiasm and initiative

In a nutshell, I am convinced that the disadvantages cannot cover the

advantages brought about by TV and computers. As long as parents offer

7
IELTS ĐÌNH LONG
ĐỀ CƯƠNG WRITING tháng 1,2,3,4 – 2022
their children proper guidance and strengthen the supervision, children
will benefit from these behaviors immensely

8. New technologies have changed the way children spend their free time. Do you think
the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?

As technology is advancing by leaps and bounds, the way children spent

their free time has undergone a noticeable and far-reaching
transformation. Under this circumstance, an absolute consensus can
hardly be reached whether this phenomenon is a blessing or a curse. For
my part, I side with the latter to a larger extent.

It has to be admitted that the wide application of new technologies like

computers and smart phones does make children’s life more interesting
and help them gain swift and convenient access to the latest information
and important events. Not to mention that when they are confronted with
some puzzles in their homework, they can figure out some solutions more
efficiently through the Internet.

However, much heavier weight should be attached to negative influences

brought about by this phenomenon. To be specific, most children in the
past would engage in outdoor activities such as hiking, playing hide-and-
seek and flying kites, to name but a few. Meanwhile, those who enjoyed
reading for pleasure would stay indoors and read printed books such as
classical novels, children’s stories and comic books. On the contrary, the
Internet has already confined the majority of children nowadays to home
and on-line activities, playing video games, listening to music and
browsing around gossip news, which is detrimental to their physical and
mental health undoubtedly.

8
IELTS ĐÌNH LONG
ĐỀ CƯƠNG WRITING tháng 1,2,3,4 – 2022

In addition, too much time spent facing computers or smart phones may
trigger children’s isolation from the real world. In traditional games,
children could learn more skills to cooperate with others, lead a team and
create new things. All these skills will pave the way for their entering into
the society in the years to come. But children can never grasp these
important skills by hiding behind the virtual Internet world without
interactions with real people.

In a nutshell, the sweeping trend of new technologies fundamentally

changed the way children spend their free time negatively although this
phenomenon is beneficial to some extent.

9. Public museums and art galleries are not needed because people can see historical
objects and artistic works by using computers. To what extent do you agree or
disagree?

We live in a world where we can get information at the click of a mouse.

Compared with even a decade ago, the Internet has allowed us to see
and do more without ever leaving our desk. But when it comes to
viewing objects of art and other items, is it the same as visiting them in
person? Clearly, I think that there is a difference between something real
and virtual

First of all, please begin by recalling a trip you made to a museum or

historical relic. Surely much of what makes your memory great is not just
seeing the object, but all of the other senses that you used as well: the
smell, the atmosphere, the other people admiring it. These are only
possible when you are viewing something in person.

Secondly, seeing something in person allows you to notice details that

you might otherwise miss. For example, when I saw the pyramids in

9
IELTS ĐÌNH LONG
ĐỀ CƯƠNG WRITING tháng 1,2,3,4 – 2022
person, I was amazed at how uneven they were up close, and how large.
When I had seen them before online, I had no concept of these details.

Of course, the Internet can still be a useful visual tool. Before a person
goes on a trip, for example, they can research the place they are visiting
along with historical items. That way when they arrive, they can have a
better idea of what to expect. But under no circumstance should we
think that viewing something online is the same as in person.

To conclude, I feel that a virtual, online world should complement but

not replace the real one. We all need to get out of our homes and go
places to see things, because it is the overall experience and journey
that makes it memorable and meaningful.

10. In modern world, it is no longer necessary to use animals for food or use animal
products, for instance, clothing and medicines. To what extent do you agree or
disagree?

Today, science and technology are advancing by leaps and bounds.

Some people think that modern society no longer needs to consume
animal products like food or medicines. I would say that this opinion is
partly reasonable.

It is true that science has created a wide range of artificial materials for
producing clothes, medicines and any other products that used to be
made out of animals. Man-made replacements have appeared more
powerful than animal products. A typical example is that people used to
wear fur to keep warm, but nowadays there are better clothing products
that can work exactly the same and are priced much lower. Also, in
terms of medical treatment, newly-created drugs can fasten healing

10
IELTS ĐÌNH LONG
ĐỀ CƯƠNG WRITING tháng 1,2,3,4 – 2022
process, which largely shortens the recovering time for patients. All
these achievements show that non-animal products are better
alternatives for modern lifestyle and it is time to change our shopping
priorities.

Yet, however advanced as technology is, as it is impossible to duplicate

everything given by Nature. The protein found in meat and milk is proved
to be safe and natural for most people. By contrast, supplement pills
may provide a similar type of protein but they can never fully replace the
natural ingredients, even scientists think there is a risk of taking these
pills for a long time. Also, modern medicines like antibiotics generate
more side effects than some traditional medicines, so the benefits may
not offset the setbacks in this case.

To conclude, I believe that we surely can reduce the reliance on animals

for food or other products, while it is still too early to abandon all animal
products.

11. Today consumers are facing an increasing amount of advertising from

competing companies. To what extent do you think consumers are influenced by
advertisements? What measures can be taken to protect them

With the advent of information age, advertising has found its own way
into every corner of people’s daily life. Under this circumstance,
consumers are becoming so greedy that they are not only buying things
they really do not need but also spending the money they do not have. I
will make an objective analysis of this argument and figure out effective
remedies in my following essay.

Although advertising gives consumers an ideal channel and platform to

gain swift and convenient access to the latest information of products
and fashionable trend, actually most advertisements tend to cause them
to desire for something worthless. In this case, it is easy to change
people’s need into greed. Accordingly, they are constantly encouraged
to want things—want this and want that. This human behavior is

11
IELTS ĐÌNH LONG
ĐỀ CƯƠNG WRITING tháng 1,2,3,4 – 2022
haunted by the media from all fronts: on radio, on television, and online,
not to mention printed circulations such as newspapers and magazines.
Obviously, a great number of “impulsive” buyers are persuaded under
the illusion that new products or services could make a difference in
their lives. Despite all the benefits of the free market economy, the
effects of unreliable advertising are particularly negative in that the
power of advertising does not reflect the real needs of the society in
which products and services are sold.

Worse still, many consumers are convinced to waste money they do not
have. Surrounded by advertisements, people are too unwise to perform
a balanced act between income and expenditure. Increasingly, what
seems to be good for economy begins to backfire because advertising is
misleading consumers deeply into commercial debts which they
probably could not afford to pay in due time. Thus, instead of improving
people’s lives, advertising may be considered as a “necessary evil” in
modern time. Furthermore, as manufacturing and service companies are
competing to have a larger share of the market, it is next to impossible
to expect the media to reduce the amount of dishonest advertising.
Besides, when it comes to making money, companies and the media are
in the same religion

After all, greed being a human instinct, consumers have only themselves
to blame for their foolishness toward advertisements. Since outlawing
commercial advertising is out of the question, people should educate
themselves to be more prudent in buying and spending behaviors. As for
consumers, what better measures can be taken to protect themselves
other than self-control?

12. Some people say that the increasing business and cultural contact between
countries has positive effects. Others say it would lead to the loss of national
identities. Discuss and give your opinion.

Nowadays, the pace of globalization is accelerating, which leads to

increasing interaction between countries. Thus, people begin to
challenge whether such contact is a blessing or a curse. Indeed,
opinions are divided. I will make an objective analysis of this argument in
my following essay.

12
IELTS ĐÌNH LONG
ĐỀ CƯƠNG WRITING tháng 1,2,3,4 – 2022

Some people harbor the belief that international business and cultural
contacts do its magic by gathering people from different backgrounds
and nationalities. When visitors travel to a distant place or an exotic
country, they surely will get in touch with local residents. As a result,
mutual stereotypes, prejudices and illusions fade away and
understanding grows, which is definitely positive for preventing conflicts
and developing international friendship.

However, others maintain that the globalization or even frequent

contacts between countries will cause erosion to the cultural
diversity. To be specific, the penetration, encroachment and assimilation
of mainstream cultures into minority ones will cast a shadow on cultural
identity. Meanwhile, the arrival of some international business giants will
exert excessive pressure on the operation of local enterprises, some of
which may go bankrupt in the end.

From my own perspective, I side with the stance of the former to a larger
extent, believing that such interflow will impose positive influences on all
the parties involved. Cultural and business erosion sounds reasonable at
the first glance but actually not after a second thought. The opponents
just ignore one basic reality—one country’s national identity has already
experienced years of accumulation, which is not easy to be assimilated.
In addition, fierce competition may make local companies stronger. Only
through comparison with other cultures and enterprises, can we be
conscious of the uniqueness of our own heritage and shortage of
commercial operations.

13. Environmental problems are too big for individual countries and individual
people to address. We have reached the stage where the only way to protect the
environment is at an international level. To what extent do you agree or disagree with
this statement?

It is certainly true that in the battle against environmental problems,

cooperation at the international level is highly desirable. But I cannot

13
IELTS ĐÌNH LONG
ĐỀ CƯƠNG WRITING tháng 1,2,3,4 – 2022
fully agree with the claim that international joint efforts are the only way
to protect the environment. Individual countries and individual persons
also have an important part to play in combating environmental issues.

Obviously, there are different kinds of environmental problems, ranging

from deforestation in a small area to global warming. It is true that a
growing number of problems are no longer confined to a certain region
or country. Oil spills can pollute international waters; the loss of the
ozone layer may lead to the melting of ice caps and glaciers, which in
turn, may raise sea levels worldwide. Both cases, of course, go far
beyond individual countries. It is in such cases that international
cooperation is not only desirable, but also invaluable. International
committee should be set up and international standards established, so
that individual efforts can be coordinated and resources used to their
fullest potential

It does not necessarily mean that individual countries and individual

persons no longer have anything to do with environmental problems.
Firstly, it is the individual countries that finally carry out measures agreed
upon at an international level. Secondly, only when individual countries
have succeeded in improving their own circumstances can an
international solution be achieved. Finally, individual persons also play a
crucial role in that if everyone does a small part, and then together we
can achieve a lot. If we all start with small things such as recycling
plastics and saving water and electricity, then the tasks that the country
as a whole face will be a lot easier.

Therefore, the best way, if there is one, is that we deal with

environmental problems at both individual and international levels.

14. If a five-year-old commits a crime, should the parents be held responsible or

punished? What is the age of the child do you think parents should not take the
responsibility?

14
IELTS ĐÌNH LONG
ĐỀ CƯƠNG WRITING tháng 1,2,3,4 – 2022

Juvenile delinquency is regarded as a serious social problem in many

countries. Many studies have been made to determine the causes of
delinquency. But in my opinion, family relationship is the main cause.

Sociologists have pointed out that over 90 percent of the delinquents

had unhappy home lives and felt discontented with their life
circumstances. Many had parents with whom they did not get along or
who were inconsistent in their patterns of discipline and punishment.
Delinquency appeared to them to be a solution. Therefore, the parents,
to my mind, should be responsible for their young lawbreakers as they
are their guardians and responsible for their moral development. In
some communities, for example, the police would refer children
accused of minor delinquencies to their parents.

The legal age at which a person is considered to be a juvenile varies

from place to place. But I would refer anyone under the age of 18 as a
juvenile. Those under that age usually spend most of their time at home
and are still dependent of their parents’ care and education. Above the
age of 18, a person becomes mature physically and mentally, and
should be responsible for his own acts. Therefore, any lawbreaker over
the age of 18 will be sent to a criminal court and tried.

To sum up, to establish a good family atmosphere is the key priority for
parents to bring up their children in a healthy way, otherwise they have
to shoulder heavy responsibility for their children’s misconduct.

15. In some countries, people waste a lot of food which is bought in shops and
restaurants. What do you think are the reasons? What can be done to solve this
problem?

15
IELTS ĐÌNH LONG
ĐỀ CƯƠNG WRITING tháng 1,2,3,4 – 2022

As economy is advancing by leaps and bounds, people’s living

standards have been improving gradually. Under this circumstance, the
fact that consumers are inclined to throw away tons of uneaten or
unwanted food bought from stores and restaurants has been thrown
into sharp focus. Hence, it is imperative that we should analyze
possible reasons giving rise to this phenomenon objectively and figure
out effective remedies

From my own perspective, the causes of this phenomenon are

manifold. To be specific, people in increasing number who possess
more wealth tend to purchase more food according to their preference
rather than real requirements. As a consequence, they would discard
whatever food they do not need. In addition, in terms of health
concerns, many well-to-do people would rather be safe than sorry, and
thus they choose to dump some older food or food which is past its
expiry date

Moreover, with the advent of information age, advertising has found its
own way into every corner of people’s daily life. Sometimes consumers
can hardly resist the temptation of elaborate scenes and attractive
words in advertisements so that they are prone to make blind and
impulsive decisions when shopping by placing orders repetitively even
they do not need, which gradually forms a habit of wasting.

To crack this hard nut, some effective and feasible measures should be
adopted without any delay. To illustrate, the government should
enhance overall awareness of the public towards saving food by
publicity and education. Meanwhile, some regulations and rules ought
to be issued to give heavy fine to those who waste food recklessly.
Only in these ways, can the social atmosphere of advocating frugality
come into being in a long run.

16. Some people believe that newspaper is the best way to learn about news, while
others believe that more effective way is through other media. Discuss both views
and give your own opinion.

16
IELTS ĐÌNH LONG
ĐỀ CƯƠNG WRITING tháng 1,2,3,4 – 2022

With the advent of information age, the way people receive news has
undergone a noticeable and far-reaching transformation. Under this
circumstance, an absolute consensus can hardly be reached whether
newspaper or other media are the more effective channel to get the
latest information. I will make an objective analysis of this argument in
my following essay.

Some people harbor the belief that the way newspaper collects the
information is time-consuming since it has to be through the edition,
adjustment and approval process before it could be printed out. As a
consequence, we cannot see the latest news on newspaper right away.
However, because of these careful authorized steps, most of the
resources are confirmed and dependable, which is the reason why
newspaper is still considered as quite influential medium among people.
Unlike the Internet, it is tangible and portable so that people can read it
without limitation.

However, others maintain that being a revolutionary breakthrough of

technology, the latest information can be uploaded on website in
seconds. People, wherever they locate, can gain swift access to it by a
click, owing to which, the Internet takes credit for the best way to deliver
the latest news. In addition, if one wants to see lifelike scenes of the
events, TV is the best choice. After all, one sight is worth a thousand
words. Sometimes it is hard to really comprehend something until one
sees it with his own eyes. Take the disaster of tsunami for example, the
TV coverage brings the terror of the catastrophe to the hearts of millions,
prompting the international community to take urgent relief measures

From my own perspective, the gaining popularity of the Internet and TV

has gradually deprived newspaper of the important role in conveying the
information, while the latter still occupies a crucial position in helping
people to access in-depth reports

17. Some people say the best way of improving road safety is to increase the
minimum legal age for driving a car or a motorbike?

Some people tend to think that the higher the minimum age limited for
one to get a driver’s license is, the safer driving will be. For my part,

17
IELTS ĐÌNH LONG
ĐỀ CƯƠNG WRITING tháng 1,2,3,4 – 2022
this is partly true but it is not the sole factor that can make driving
more secure.

The increase on the lower age restriction for driving stands a point for
road safety. As the older these newly licensed drivers are, the more
likely they will have a stronger sense of responsibility compared with
their younger counterparts. At an older age, they will constantly
remind themselves of the consequences of breaking traffic rules. They
may have family; they may have a decent job. So, they do not want to
lose all these by drunk driving or doing other prohibited things on the
road.

Yet this change on age restriction may not largely prevent car
accidents. Some people get their licenses in their mid-30s but may be
an addict to alcohol already. Being older does not mean this kind of
people will drive well with that addiction. Some older people are still
immature compared with young people, so they could have crazy
behaviors like speeding. Therefore, in this sense, an older age does
not necessarily restrict illegal driving behaviors. Perhaps a
combination of age limit and behavior discipline can be more
effective.

To conclude, lifting the minimum driving age limit may lower the
amount of irresponsible new drivers. However, purely depending on
this measure is not the ultimate way to decrease the safety-related
issues on the road. More behavior restrictions, including some stricter
penalty measures, should be applied alongside so that road safety
can be largely guaranteed.

18. In many countries today, people in big cities prefer to live alone or in small
family units rather than large and extended family groups. Is this a positive or
negative trend?

In modern society, young people prefer to stay apart from their

parents and live alone in a metropolis. Whether this trend is a blessing
or a curse will be discussed in the following essay.

Young adults adopt this independent lifestyle in the hope of taking

some advantages. Firstly, they would have more freedom which
allows them to do what they find interesting and worthwhile but their
parents may not, since the older generation may hold their traditional
way of life or values which may be rejected by the younger one.
Secondly, people in a nuclear family could devote themselves to
pursuing their ideal life and enable them to achieve the dream of
success. Only in this way, can more social resources be explored and
more chances of career success be expected in the near future.

However, this modern lifestyle has some negative effects on

individuals and the society as a whole. For one thing, living in small
family units and ignoring long-term and stable relationships with the
members of extended family and community may be associated with
the lack of personal sense of happiness and the increase of sense of
isolation, which would reduce an individual’s general satisfaction with
life. For another, living alone would lead to low birth rates which can
result in an ageing population in the years to come. As a
consequence, medical care service will be in high demand and
medical cost will rise significantly.

In my opinion, it is difficult to draw a conclusion whether the tendency

is positive or negative. This is largely because while young couples or
singles enjoy their personal space and career oriented urban lifestyle
without the responsibility of raising children or taking care of senior
family members, they are disconnected with their families and the
original community.

19. When new towns are planned, it is important to build more public parks or
sports facilities than shopping centers for people to spend their free time. To what
extent do you agree or disagree?

The rational plan for different functioning zones of a city or a town before
its construction is of paramount importance in its long-term development.
In many of the functioning zones, an absolute consensus can hardly be
reached whether the building of public parks or sports facilities should be
more valued than the construction of the shopping malls. As a city dweller,
I have the inclination to favor the development of some spots for shopping.

If a town is planned for more shopping centers, its citizens can have more
access to a diverse life. Many shopping centers, under the influence of the
advanced and trendy belief, are more than a place where the customers do
some shopping by splurging their money or there are assorted
commodities. In another word, shopping malls are the combination of
many other public spots, in which cinemas, restaurants and even some
small sized amusement parks can be introduced. Thus, with only the
planning and building of the shopping malls, the residents can have more
destinations to go to during their spare time, adding more spice to their city
life

Another merit for building the shopping centers is that it can be less
influenced by the external weather condition, which can ensure that
citizens can enjoy their free time with less restriction. The public parks and
some sports facilities are often exposed in open air, and people are likely
to feel hopeless and upset if their recreational plans or body-building plans
will be spoilt by some unexpected events. By contrast, the shopping
centers are modern constructions which free from the influence of some
natural forces.

To conclude, I am in favor of giving priority to the development of shopping

centers, although other functioning zones such as parks and sports
facilities are necessary to some extent.

20. Some people think that killing animals for food is cruel and unnecessary while
others argue that animal meat is essential for people’s daily lives. Discuss both sides
and give your own opinion.

When you visit a Macdonald fast-food restaurant, enjoying a Big Mac

sandwiched with a piece of beef should be an inviting meal. However,
many people may feel disgusted and cruel towards killing animals for

food. I will make an objective analysis of this argument in my following
essay

Some people harbor the belief that some animals can bring about
practical assistance and spiritual comfort to humans throughout the
history. To be specific, pigeons could be raised to convey the
information and a well-trained dog can guide the blind as well as trace
the drugs. Not to mention that pets like dogs can foster children’s
sense of responsibility and loving heart, and drive away elderly
people’s loneliness. For these reasons, those animals are humans’
companions and killing them is quite unacceptable.

However, others maintain that many kinds of animals such as cattle

and fowl are the source of food. It is universally acknowledged that
meat contains various nutrients essential to people’s survival and
without it, they may be plagued with deficiency diseases. Accordingly,
eating an appropriate amount of meat every day does a great job in
keeping our bodies healthy. In addition, millions of people are engaged
in related occupations so that any act against this industry may trigger
a considerable quantity of lay-offs, destabilizing society

From my own perspective, both arguments are not mutually exclusive,

which should go hand in hand with each other. For one thing, man
should stick to eating traditional food like beef, pork and poultry on the
grounds that those animal foods can provide people with essential
nutrition. For another, some rare and endangered species ought to be
protected for the reason that the imbalance of ecology may lead to
undesirable consequences. Meanwhile, some animals as useful
helpers of humans need to be treated in a proper way.
