Study guide English Term 1, schoolyear 2022-2023

Year: 6
Department: VWO

Welcome to 6V! This term we will be seeing each other twice a week.
During our classes, we will focus on various language skills; reading, writing,
speaking and listening.

We will practice Cito audio-visual tests using Woots in preparation for your official
test on January 25th and will practice reading with old reading exams in preparation
for your final Central Exam.
Of course we will also prep for your oral exam in test week 1, which will account for
15% of your grade. We will do so through various speaking exercises throughout the
term.

Learning goals term 1

At the end of this term you will:
- have read 4 articles, summarized them and put words that are unfamiliar to
you on your personal word list
- have extended your vocabulary
- have practiced your reading exam skills
- have improved your listening and speaking skills
- be able to participate in a fruitful academic group discussion

TESTS:
Test week 1: Oral exam, group discussion, weight 15:
During the test week you will be tested on your speaking skills.
In groups of four students you will have a fruitful discussion about one statement of
your own choice and two given statements of a total of five topics that you will have
to prepare.

This will be practiced regularly in class. To prepare yourselves for the discussion you
will have to do research to find additional information apart from the articles that your
teachers provide you with in class.

You are expected to keep a list of the difficult words you don’t yet know from the
articles that we read in class. You have to find the translation of the words and put
them and the translation in your notebook which you started in year 4. This will help
you extend your vocabulary, which will help you to successfully pass your exams this
year and give you a solid background for the start of your academic career next year!
