ENGLISH FIRST CONTACT

What is the course about?

The course is about all the basic aspects of English to introduce the student in a more
inclusive and less traditional way to learning this language

Pre-requisites

All the knowledge acquired during the college stage is useful, for the initiation to this
basic course.

UNIT ONE

Basic English aspects

The results imply that the students reinforce all the previous knowledge they have
concerning the English language. Thus clearing all those doubts about any topic
addressed during the school stage

UNIT TWO

Simple phrases

By the end of this unit, students should be able to connect simple ideas in short
sentences or phrases in order to express their thoughts, ideas, or feelings.

UNIT THREE

Differentiating words

At the end of this unit the student will be able to differentiate certain words from others;
that sound and are written in a similar way, in order to avoid confusion and make
students understand that the English language is not as complex as they might think

UNIT FOUR

First words

At the conclusion of what was learned in the first 3 units, audios are added; through
which students can have their first conversations with each other and with the teacher in
a coherent way.

In addition to the traditional materials used in class, the use of smart phones will be
allowed in addition to a Chromecast immediate transmission device, and a TV in the
classroom

Class policies

Policies during classes taught during the course will change markedly from traditional
classes commonly taught in other semesters. For example devices such as cell phones
can be used to use programs related to the subject, specifically programs with artificial
intelligence. In addition to all this, there will be no restrictions on the expression of
students, both in their mother tongue and the target language to learn in this matter.
Other aspects such as discipline attendance and the like will be similar to traditional
teaching methods

Attendance & Participation

Attendance and participation are essential within this subject since without continuity of
the contents the students will not be able to carry out the main objectives of this course.

Cell Phones

As already mentioned, said devices will be used and allowed in the classroom for
educational purposes only.

Water consumption can be allowed inside the classroom to keep students active

Late Work

Special attention will be taken with respect to students who turn in their work, practices,
and others late, since it could be essentially due to a lack of understanding of the
content of the course, which would imply a reformulation within the delivery of the
activities proposed by the teacher

Plagiarism/Academic Integrity
Plagiarism during this course is unacceptable, given all the facilities for students for
optimal learning. In fact, when performing this type of gadget to achieve positive marks,
only the student's image is damaged and the main objectives of the units proposed by
the teacher in charge are diminished. However, if any of the students are found
committing this offense, a personalized interview will be taken to find out the reasons for
said procedures. If it is a coherent and well-argued justification, the student will be given
a change of modality in the evaluations to design their final grades.

Any of the next kind of plagiarism will be taken into account

a. Submit a paper to be graded or reviewed that you have not written on your own.

b. Copy answers or text from another classmate and submit it as your own.

c. Quote or paraphrase from another paper without crediting the original author.

d. Cite data without crediting the original source.

e. Propose another author's idea as if it were your own.

f. Fabricate references or using incorrect references.

g. Submit someone else's presentation, spreadsheet, or other file with only minor
alterations.

Instruction Method(s) and Strategies

The techniques used in this class will focus on the oral and written expression of the
English language, which are:

Participation within the classroom.

Each student must participate in a compulsory way orally in front of their classmates or
in the case of some students with fear of speaking in public, directly with the teacher in
charge of the subject.

The oral presentations, videotaped, described above, will be used in order to evaluate
the progress of the students in the oral aspect of the language; the evaluation at the end
of the course will give a parameter of the total progress at the end of the semester.

Within the class, applications such as madlipz can be used to entertain students and
transmit their videos to the whole class or only to the teacher according to the needs of
each student, that is, not all students like to expose themselves in public.

Written compositions

As previously mentioned, said compositions will be made gradually with subjects of the
student's choice, that is, subjects of his personal interest, in order not to bore the
student with conventional and non-productive subjects; A final evaluation will be made,
which will be assigned by the teacher adapting the knowledge of each of the students,
so as not to generalize concepts and types of students.

Work outside the classroom

Classroom is an ideal platform for this type of non-contact work; this platform will be
used to have all the activities correctly qualified. Within this platform a virtual classroom
will be created including the following tools: YouTube, google docs, Blendspace,
Mindmaps, Liveworksheets, etc.; all these applications are quite interactive to carry out
activities outside the classroom.

Remedial virtual classes

These are the 14 hours distributed throughout the semester, the teacher will teach a
class of one hour a week to review the fundamental aspects of each unit for those
students who have missed any of the classes, as well as for students who want to
reinforce what they have learned in class and increase your knowledge

In the oral aspect


The progress of each of the students will be evaluated individually, that is, a standard
will not be taken to carry out the evaluations, the student's progress will be scored
taking as a reference point a diagnostic test taken at the beginning of the course.
In the written aspect
The grammar, the coherence of the text will be taken into account, as well as the
intention of the student despite making these mistakes, it is repeated once more, and
there will be no standardization of any kind.
Class attendance
In this aspect, an average will be made on the days in person over 100 percent and
points will be deducted according to the absences, unless these are duly justified.
In the aspect of participation
Beyond the fact of participating voluntarily in classes, the availability of students to
participate will be taken into account, even if this involves participating only in front of
the teacher.

My Teaching Philosophy

This course tries to take a philosophy of interactive participation, combining non-


rigorous or invasive methods towards students to obtain results, that is, trying to
achieve meaningful learning by giving the opportunity to each of the students without
pressuring or ridiculing them in front of to the class as certain teachers usually do within
their classes.

The idea is that the maximum potential of each student is obtained using an inclusive
method, which means that each student needs a little more personalized education,
leaving aside the standards imposed in our current education system in our country.

What can students expect from the teacher in charge of the subject?

Students can expect the utmost care to reach each student, highlight their abilities, and
reinforce their weaknesses for optimal English language learning, using only a text as a
simple guide, combining technological resources and teaching them to use their tools
like their cell phones to learn about this language and about any other topic of their
personal interest.
