METHODOLOGIES:

This course will be conducted as a virtual class, which is is an online learning environment
that allows interaction between the tutor and the learners as they are participating in
learning activities. The participants have tools to present learning content in different
formats, as well as to implement collaborative and individual activities. We´ll be using
different methodologies and a variety of easy to access apps that help students and
teachers participate actively during each session.

The Communicative Approach:

The course will be taught in English. There will be regular practice of the four
skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking. Activities will serve to stimulate as
much as possible real-life communicative encounters.

Flipped Classroom:
Students will receive pre-assignments in preparation for classwork, so teachers
will be able to focus more on the Practice and Production components. The main
objective is to promote the communicative approach among students. Activation
of previous knowledge will prepare students to participate in class.

Collaborative and/or Cooperative Learning:

Students will work in groups with or without the direct supervision of the
teacher. This will be done thorough online learning tools that the teacher
indicates.

IMPORTANT:
The practice hour includes activities that will be developed during the class hours.
 The practical component amounts for 30% of the final grade.
 The teacher will input in the academic system a grade over 100 points and
the system makes the corresponding calculations.
 This practical component includes the four skills that students need to
develop during their level. These skills are reading, writing, listening and
speaking.
 The activities as part of the practical hour may vary, they could be
individual or group activities. Extension activities from the Cambridge
Platform (Reading / Listening) may also be part of this section.
 The teacher will assign a minimum of one task for each of the skills and per
term, so, in the end there will be eight (8) graded tasks for this component.

Tests
 There will be a minimum of two tests after each of the units that
comprise the curriculum is finished.
 Each test will be graded over 10.
 Each test might include a reading passage, a listening track and a
use of English section.
 This will be performed in both terms of the PAO.
 This suggested plan will be used for both the first and the second
term.

Essay
 The outline of an essay (persuasive essay) will be written during the first
term and a complete essay for the second term.
 The students should develop the following graded products:
a) An outline, which will contain a complete introduction, the outline of
the three developmental paragraphs and the complete conclusion.
b) Once the outline is finished, basing on it, students should develop
their first draft, which shall contain a complete introduction, the
three-paragraph body and a complete conclusion.
c) The final product shall be the finished essay which should contain
all the corrections pointed out by the teacher and will contain the
same sections as the first draft.

Assignments
 The teacher shall assign work for the students to do individually, either in
pairs or in groups.

 The assignments shall be carried out in, but will not be limited to the
Cambridge Language Management System (CLMS) platform and the
SidWeb.

 Students will have a weekly reading and listening exercise sent by Sid web.
These exercises will be international exams like exercises that challenge
students to get the appropriate level (B2). The exercises will train students to
answer different kinds of questions such as inference, detail, reason, purpose
and vocabulary.

Oral assessment
 The oral assessment will be divided into one activity for the first exam and a
different activity for the second exam.
Edited by ENGLISH IV TEAM 5
 In the first exam the students should work in pairs or in groups (could be
3 or 4) For this assessment they should develop a conversation / discussion
based on a situation presented by the teacher. These situations shall be very similar to those practiced
in class. The situations shall not by any circumstance be informed to the students with prior time,
therefore, on the day of the exam each group will receive their situation on the same day and they
should have no more than five 5 or 3 minutes to prepare.

 For the final exam students will prepare and give a presentation about any topic they prefer,
as long as, it is related to the degrees they are studying. The topic for the present shall be
declared to the teacher who will make a note of the topic. There shall be no repeated topics,
so they will go on a first come, first served basis. Each student should speak for about
3minutes, this in order for the teacher to grade each one individually. At the end of the
presentation the teacher (or volunteered students) may ask a couple of questions to the
presenters as part of the presentation.
 The oral exam will take place on the last week of class before the exam week starts.
 For the presentations students should wear a semi-formal attire. No jeans, shorts or t-
shirts should be permitted during the presentations.
 Teachers will send the rubric by SIDWeb, so that students will be aware of the way they
will be graded.

Exams
 There will be three exams in each semester.
 The first exam which will comprise the first two units of the textbook (units
1 and 2).
 The second exam will include the last three units of the textbook (units 3, 4
and 5).
 The third exam will include all the content of the book, five units in total
(unit 1 to unit 5).
 All the exams plus the class activities grade will add up to 100 points which
will be input in the academic system after the exams had been corrected and
presented to the students.
 Each written exam will contain three sections, the reading section, use of
English, which includes grammar and vocabulary, and the listening section.
 Both the oral section and the writing section of the exam will take place on
the session before the official exam day. The oral section has been discussed
above.
 The composition section of the exam, which will be graded over 12 points,
will be different for the first and the second exam.
a) In the first exam students will have to develop the outline for an essay
question, which they will have to choose among three options. Students
will have one hour to develop their written work. This work will comprise
the introduction of the essay (complete introduction), the topic sentences
for each of the paragraphs and the supporting ideas (not sentences) for
the topic sentence. Finally, learners will write the conclusion for that
essay. This work will have a maximum grade of 12 points. Students will
be familiar with the rubric they have used for their writing classwork.
a) In the final exam students will have to develop a complete essay for an
essay question which they will have to choose among three options.
Students will have one hour to develop their written work. This work will
comprise the complete introduction of the essay, all the three body
