Klinik Pergigian Jalan Air Jernih

Kuala Terengganu, the state capital has 7 government dental clinics, consisting of 6 primer
clinics and one specialist clinic. Primer clinics offer outpatient dental care ranging from extractions,
restorations, scaling, prosthetic treatment to simple trauma case. Outpatient care starts from simple
examination and then they will be given an appointment for the treatment needed, according to the
waiting list and the dental officer’s schedule.

The Kuala Terengganu district has been recently divided into two new smaller districts,
namely Kuala Terengganu and Kuala Nerus. Klinik pergigian Air Jernih is one of the four district clinics
under Kuala Terengganu. Established in the 1960s, it consists of about 90 staffs and at the same time
is also a training centre for Dental Surgeon Assistant (DSA), staff nurses and dental technicians.
There are about 11 dental officers and only 8 dental chairs, indicating the imbalance ratio of officers
to chairs available. To add on to this is the limited number of dental nurses to assist the officers,
hence sometimes the officers have to assist each other in doing treatment. Other than that, the
officers have also been divided into those working in clinics and those going to schools to provide
oral hygiene education or treatments.

Treatment at schools are done in the morning while in the afternoon, the officers will treat
appointment patients. The average number of daily outpatients ranges from 50 to 70, sometimes
reaching up to 100 patients especially on Sundays or during school holiday season.
In attending to the patients’ needs, the clinic adheres to the client’s charter which serves as
a basic guideline to ensure maximum patient satisfaction. For instance, patients must receive
treatment within 30 minutes of registering at the front counter.
