The Fundamentals of lodging Operations module 1 introduces the hospitality

industry, as for differentiating the meaning between hospitality, hospitality
industry and hospitality management on how these 3 are different when it comes to
hospitality. In the fundamentals of lodging operations also introduce the different
types of characteristics in the hospitality industry, there are exactly 5
characteristics in the hospitality industry these are the Product- service mix, Two-
way communication, Relationship building, Diversity Culture, and Labor
Intensive, these 5 are used by customers to characterize the service they’ve
experience in a any hospitality industry. In this module it also addresses the
importance of tourism and hospitality on how the tourism and hospitality
contribute to our country when it comes to the currency and how will it also impact
the travelling expenses. The importance of tourism and hospitality also has an
impact on the economic development of the country, once the number of tourism
increases can benefit the different sector of our country and it can lead to various
development of different industries and activities once these benefits all the
different industries it can also increases the employment opportunities in the
hospitality industries. It is also important when it comes to social benefits not only
on the local tourist but also the international tourist, cause once the tourist interact
with the local residents of the place their visiting social exchange occurs, just like
an example here in the Philippines most of the foreigners who are visiting the
Philippines in the first time most of them say that Philippines capture their hearts
not only because of the sceneries of our country but because also the people of the
Philippines and maybe that’s also the reason why most of the foreigners who
visited Philippines decided to live here.

But the most important part of these module is the history of Hospitality industry
on how it started and why it is defined as the one of the pioneering commercial
undertakings of the world, it also gives insights about the growth of hospitality
industry in different era or time. The hospitality industry begins in the colonial
period in the late 1700s. Things had changed since then the hospitality industry has
seen a significant growth over the years. The industry as we know it today started
to form in the early 1950s and 1960s, making way for developments into the
growing industry we know today. During the early hospitality people use animals
to travel during that time they didn’t travel to have fun, the purpose of their
travelling was to search for food, work, and other prospects. They were different
lodging houses for different accommodation depending on what kind of tourist are
you.

During the Middle Ages, churches and temples are used as a facility for pilgrims to
stay overnight. In this time the travelling purposes of the people were trading and
most of the inns in this time were along side the roads and the travelling vehicle
used in this time were carriages compared to the early time the vehicle they used
were animals. In the industrial time, stagecoaches were most preferred vehicle to
use by travelers in the 18th century. By the time of the development of railway
services the road travel become less popular to the travelers, cause most travelers
preferred trains as it was the most convenient vehicle to use at that time. In this
time the first hotel was build with 60 rooms that cost $17, 500 and that hotel was
the hotel de henry IV.
Now that in each year that the hospitality industry evolves, apart from inns there
are hotels, motels and resorts that can be accommodate by different travelers. And
the vehicle used by travelers also improve from using animals and carriage the
vehicles use in this time are much more improve now we have airplanes, cruise
ship, cars and many more. We also have now travel agencies that can make the
traveling easier. Scope of the hospitality industry have tourism and hospitality
which accommodate people to move from different places, regarding to what
service they needed. Lodging is also part of the scope in the hospitality industry,
lodging is a place where a traveler or tourist can stay at for over a period. And
lastly in the scope of hospitality industry is the recreation, recreation happens when
a tourist needs to rest or to have relaxation to its mind or body. Recreation offers
fun activities for tourist that need to relax. Influencing hospitality industry with the
trends now a days can be helpful or change the industry. Just like accommodating
millennials to hotels, especially now that there are influencers that are millennials
using this, they can promote the hotel that they are staying in at in the social media.
Also having that uniqueness that is different from other brands can help your
business to stand out. Studying these can be really mesmerizing knowing how the
industry of hospitality change over the time or years and how it can contribute to
the country or to its tourist.
