The Meaning and Importance of Tourism and Hospitality

In this chapter I learned so many things that can help me understand more about
my chosen course. That the hospitality and tourism industry have a lot differences but
interconnected. Here’s the some of my take away in the lesson that I learned.

Hospitality can be defined as the relationship between the host and the
guest wherein the host accommodates, serves, and meets the expectations of their guest.
The word "hospitality" is derived from the latin word "hospitare," which means "to
receive a guest." Tourism is an activity done by an individual or group that involves
traveling from one place to another. Tourism is derived from the Hebrew word "torah,"
which means "studying and searching." There are also different components of the
tourism and hospitality industries: food and beverage, lodging, recreation and
entertainment, travel, and tourism. Food and beverage are very important in the
hospitality and tourism industries; they are the most purchased products in both industries
.A restaurant is one example of an establishment that provides food and beverage service.
Lodging is also known as "accommodation," and it refers to a place where tourists can
stay, examples of lodging establishment are: Hotel, Motel, inns and etc. . Recreation and
entertainment are any activities that the tourist can enjoy, like sports and attractions, for
example. Travel and tourism are about moving people from one place to another. It is an
important factor that brings the tourist to its destination. Transportation also has a vital
role in tourism, it serves as a link that connects tourists to various attractions is
transportation. The hospitality industry will take care of the guest and give the best
service to make their guest's experience spectacular, while the tourism industry will take
care of and accommodate the travelers so that the guest can arrive at their chosen
destination.

The tourism and hospitality industry also have a vital role in our economy,
this sector helps generate income to business owner, give employment to people and tax
revenue that will fund government project for the benefit of the people. This indicate that
the hospitality and tourism industry are very important in our economy. They have
different functions but there re interconnected..
