provide jobs. At present, only a few crops get a Minimum Support Price (MSP) guarantee from the government. This

has created a vicious cycle. Farmers are growing the same crops every season to sustain their livelihoods. If the

crops of one state could be grown in the other state, that will increase the demand as well as reduce the

transportation cost. It is time to think about this cycle and think beyond this stunted vision. The government must

assure MSP for other crops as well. This will encourage the youth to take up farming without bothering about the

market risks.

ISSUE IN AGRICULTURE
Y13

Key issues affecting agricultural productivity include the decreasing sizes of agricultural land holdings, continued

dependence on the monsoon, inadequate access to irrigation, imbalanced use of soil nutrients resulting in loss of

fertility of soil, uneven access to modern technology in different parts of the country, lack of access to formal

Y14
agricultural credit, limited procurement of food grains by government agencies, and failure to provide

remunerative prices to farmers.

AGRICULTURE IN PUNJAB:
Punjab (land of the five rivers) is one of the most fertile regions on earth. Punjab State which has earned a name of “Food Basket of the Country” &

Y02
“Granary of India” has been contributing 40 percent of rice and 50-70 percent of wheat for the last two decades.
Punjab is not only self sufficient in producing food grains but also contributes around 60% food grains to the central pool.
The Agriculture in Punjab state is highly intensive in terms of land, capital, energy, nutrients, agriculture inputs and water etc.
With only 1.5% of geographical area of the country, Punjab has produced about 22% of wheat, 10% of rice and 13% of cotton of the total produce of

Y03
these crops in the country during 2001-02.
Punjab holds place of pride among the Indian States for its outstanding achievements in agricultural development.
The state has witnessed tremendous increase in the agricultural production during the Green Revolution period, mainly due to healthy mix of

institutional and technological factors.

Agrarian economy, consolidation of landholdings, reclamation of new agricultural lands, development of irrigation, use of biochemical inputs comprising

Y04
high yielding variety seeds, chemical fertilizers, insecticides and mechanical inputs were among the important factors which helped Punjab agriculture

in making rapid strides.

Dominating rural based political power with agricultural background provided favorable environment through thrust on rural and agricultural

development.
Y05
WHY BANUR?
According to Banur LPA ( Local Planning area, 2031), the ultimate vision is to develop it

into a world-class and premier institutional hub to serve the GMR (Greater Mohali

ROAD CONNECTIVITY:
The town is served by two major roads:
Y13 NH 64:
This dual two-lane carriageway starts from Zirakpur (where it intersects with NH 22) and heads south towards Banur. There, it intersects with NH 1 before continuing SITE
southwards to Patiala, Sangrur and the Bathinda district in Punjab.
MDR A:
Y14 This road originates from the southern part of S.A.S. Nagar – where it intersects with NH 1 – and extends to Kharar, Banur and Tepla. Starting from the intersection with
NH 21 (located in Kharar), MDR A runs in a south-east direction, intersecting with SH 12A at Landran and NH 64 at Banur. It is originally a 2-way single-carriageway road
and is currently being upgraded/widened to a dual two lane carriageway by the Punjab Roads and Development Board as part of a World Bank development project.
These two roads form a prominent intersection within the town center of Banur.

Zoning option 1 Zoning option 2 Zoning option 3

Y07

After studying and analyzing all the three different zoning, the Zoning option 2 is the best option as:
The public space is properly designed and placed in the site as the public could experience the entire site without disturbing the private space.
The education and the learning block is easily accessible to the public and the trainee and the staff, as well as away from the main road.
Y08 The public research area is near to the main entrance to attract the public but still away from the crowd, so that there is not much disturbance and the noise pollution

is also less.
The private research block is away from the public access and in the quite place.
The accommodation is also away from the public area and getting the semi public space in between the public and private area makes the accommodation space more

Y09 comfortable for the user.

The auxiliary area is designed in such a way that its easily accessible according to the area and not mixing the private and the public space.

Y10
concept
The design concept is based on the basic principles of green design as it should be an awareness
Y11
of nature: It is to appreciate the beauty of natural forces, and to create a connection between
the man-made and nature.

As the name explained: This design is an architectonic expression of cutting a green carpet (the

landscape) and wrapping it up (as the building roof).

Y12

BENEFITS OF GREEN ROOFS

Creates an Aesthetic Look: It provides an aesthetic look to urban communities. Urban greening

promotes an effective and easy strategy in beautifying the newly-built environment and increases

Y13
investment opportunities.
Improves Heat Production: A green roof improves the overall heat produced by the building

structures in urban settings, covering different surfaces that will generate more warmth.
Prevents Pollution: The plants in the green roof helps to prevent dust and smog distribution and

Y14
catch pollutants found in the air.
