04 Activity 1 NSTP

A drug is a substance that has an effect on how the body works. People react differently
to different illicit substances, and their reactions are impacted by a variety of conditions. As a
result, they are unpredictable and harmful, especially to the youth. People often use illegal drugs
or substances as a gateway from reality, to relieve themselves, avoid and forget their problems in
life, commonly caused by depression, anxiety, relationship problems, financial problems, loss of
a loved one, or to just to feel okay and to fit in. People believe that drugs are the solution, but can
eventually lead to more problems, use of drugs affects a person physically and mentally and
could result to some unusual behavior as drugs have direct effect on the psyche and depends on
the classification of drugs that the person is taking such as depressants for slowing down,
stimulants for boosting cognition or hallucinogens that alters how a person perceives his
surrounding, the use of such substances could possibly cause harm to the user or to others. A
person who consumes an excessive number of drugs can lead to addiction, unable to control their
resistance of taking drugs, resulting in short-term and long-term health problems that could be
fatal and possibly overdose. Drugs enlivens the brain, giving a temporary sense of euphoria, as
the body gets used to the good-feeling effect of drugs, the brain starts wanting for more just to
feel normal, leading to addiction. Apart from the negative effects of drugs, it can be used as a
leisure activity to pass time, people use drugs to relax, to avoid any physical and psychological
pain and to fit in a particular group of people, mostly influenced by the nature around the person,
at the end of the day, it is best to avoid the use of illegal drugs as there are many more harmless
ways to relieve mental tension.
