Decomposition Methodology
In project management, WBS offers visual methods which have detailed deliverables in the
project. This is done through defining the milestones in the hierarchy and simplifies large
projects into smaller tasks in more manageable groups. The WBS is focused on deliverables
than the activities which are required in the achievement of the milestones. In order to create a
WBS some of the rules to be observed include;

The % rule – the work and budget allotment for deliverables should add up to % and be in
hierarchical manner.
Mutually Exclusive – all deliverables and sub deliverables need to be mutually exclusive. This
implies that, the milestones can appear in the WBS twice.
Focuses on Outcomes – each deliverable is mapped in WBS but not in the action. This enables
management of scope and team members in the project be flexible.
The Work Breakdown structure is an important tool that can enable the improvement of
planning, simplification of risks identification, creation of smarter goals and enhancement of
visibility in the Tesla Giga Shanghai Sales and marketing project.
