OJT NARRATIVE REPORT - MUNICIPALITY OF LIAN

A training program for students designed to immerse them in a work environment relevant
to their courses in the attempts to learn productivity in, knowledge on, and respect for the
workplace. As discussed, on-the-job training programs are course requirements providing an
opportunity to not only apply the theories, principles and ideas learned in the academe but also
enhance the technical knowledge, skills and attitudes of students towards work necessary for
satisfactory job performance. On-the-job training programs also serve as a venue where students
earn experience in career positions relevant to their choice of academic degrees as well as open up
other future career choices towards gainful employment.

When the new semester started, I felt nervous even though I know that we really need to
take an On-The-Job Training as an academic requirement. I felt unmotivated because I am not that
well educated especially in Human Resource’s duties and responsibilities. I am afraid to make
mistakes and being judged by my co-workers. But in reality, even though you have lack of
knowledge, you can learn during the training by the help of your training supervisors, which will
make you proud of yourself.

February 3, 2022, I tried to apply for an OJT at Lian Municipal Hall. Fortunately, I got
accepted in Human Resource Management Office as HR Intern. I started to work on February 7,
2022, I woke up early just to work on time. We started 8:00 AM up to 5:00 PM. I also started to
work with positive thoughts and I avoid getting stress in my first day to have a memorable
experience in my first-time taking OJT. In my first day, my training supervisor did not give tasks
yet. She introduced herself first and explained her duties and responsibilities that she may give us
as HR Intern. She also gave us reading materials regarding to the duties and responsibilities of
Human Resource Management, also the legal documents regarding to HR and the Health Protocols
that needs to follow in Lian Municipal Hall. On my first day, I got nervous yet excited when I read
the reading materials given to me.

On the second day, I was given a task. It was the Plantilla Personnel’s 201 files. I was
tasked to sort the files and the profiles of employees. Since I am sorting the 201 files of all the
employees of 21 department, it took me 3-4 days to accomplished the task. The supervisor allowed
me to pass it until I finish it. And on my first week, I learned that an HR needs to be patient and
responsible. Because when you are an HR Personnel you are responsible for all the employees in
all department. Due to the massive number of employees your patience will be tested. When you’re
ready to work in this field make sure to have a healthy mental health.

On the second week, I was tasked to make an organizational chart together with my
classmate since it consists of 21 departments. We helped each other to accomplished the designated
task. We passed it immediately after we finish it. We also got feedback from our supervisor saying
that our work is right but we have to do it without using smart chart, we have t do it by simply put
a shape, insert text inside and put it to the right position. By that, we learned that using smart chart
is not good sometimes. We also learned that its good to work efficiently but think first if it is really
effective. Because if you don’t, it can lead into waste of time.

I have an experience where I made a big mistake which can also affect our supervisor. At
first, she gave a task and teach us the procedure one by one and we understand it clearly. This task
is to update the Civil Service Commission whereas the current employees are listed. We need to
update it if the job order employees renewed their contract or not. But when I started to do the
tasks, I thought I am looking at the current employees, I updated it in the system. After I updated
almost 20 employees in the CSC, I realized that I used the older list of employees which are not
working in the municipal hall anymore. I reported it immediately to our supervisor. She felt
disappointed from me. She knows that the head will put the blame on her instead of me because
the system don’t have an edit button. I feel so nervous, this is my first time that I felt so
disappointed on myself. Of all the task I have done, I’ll made a mistake in the most important one.
After this incident I told to myself that I need to focus when I am doing my work. Because the
simple mistakes can lead into the biggest one.

Several tasks were given to me on the following week. Such as monitoring of Job Order’s
form for Personal Information, updating of Plantilla Personnel and Job Order’s Budget and Audit,
making pay slip for the regular and contractual employees, we also updated the Salary Grade table
which is also good and entertaining to do, because we can calculate the employee’s salary per
month. This task motivates me to work harder, when I saw the salary of the employees especially
with those who are in the higher position, I feel inspired to work in the government. I was stunned
to speak when I saw their salary, what more when I know their benefits from the government.

After this experience, I decided to take a Civil Service Commission Exam this year. I want
to work in government not just because of the salary and benefits, but because for myself, I know
that I will grow in this kind of environment since I started serving the community since I was 18
years old. I become an SK Councilor in 2019 and still enjoying my position until now. When the
time comes that I know I can lead our community, I want to be part of the government and let
people also benefit from us and vice-versa. Like our supervisor, they benefit from us since their
work become easier with our help, and since we are students only who needs to learn and
experience the field of work and turn it into reality, we also benefited from them because we
learned a lot form the. We learned to communicate, we learned that it is okay to make mistakes
sometimes and make this mistake help you to develop your skills.

Overall, I want to thank the University for providing quality education, to the teachers who
are giving their best to ensure that the students are learning, to my classmates and friends for
motivating me when I feel unmotivated, to my family for being my inspiration, and especially to
myself for keep lifting me up when I feel that I cannot do it anymore. I am thankful for myself for
not giving up.

In this On-The-Job Training experience, I feel the real-life environment of a simple

employee working to serve the company with all my best. It helped me experience my future
situation when I start to work. From building relationship to the co-workers, pushing myself to
learn in training even if it’s hard, adjusting my time just to finish my work, working while I am
experiencing stress, and accomplishing my work effectively on time. It gives me knowledge on
how to sort the files employee’s files, how to audit the employees’ salary and deductions, making
an organizational chart, checking and updating the company’s budget, making pay slip for
employees, and other simple tasks of an HR. This opportunity helped me a lot, and I know that my
knowledge and skills were developed after this OJT experience.
