People usually tend to question why sports fans (mostly men) are so enthusiastic

about sport/a single team. Well I think it’s pretty simple.

In November 2018, My brother walked into room with a ticket for a football match
(Arsenal vs Totten ham) in December. I felt ecstatic to watch my favorite team
(Arsenal), mainly because this game was part of one of the greatest rivalries in
football history (The North London Derby).
Around the age of 6 (2010), my love for the club grew when I saw my father and
brother go ballistic over games on Saturdays and Sundays. Since I was just a little
kid I decided to follow them because I saw them as role models. As I watched
Arsenal games more and more I felt a type of joy I’ve never experienced anywhere
else.
The only time I would feel anything similar would be when I got a present that I
really wanted or winning a competition of some sort. I feel Sport is one of the only
places where young boys/men can get together and express togethernessthemselves
emotionally to the public without being ridiculed/downplayed. I feel inclusive and
it gives me a sense of security knowing that there are so peers many other guys
who feel passionate about this sport .and .love it as much as I do. It makes me feel
included.
On the flip side, a lot of players in football don’t limit themselves to a single
activity; this boosted my gave me more confidence and in myself as it led me to
pursue things that were outside of my comfort zone like singing in front of 50
people (something I definitely wasn’t confident about). Often Also a lot of
messages in football are to do with motivation and progression which makes it
hard to not take that advice especially when it’s coming from people you admire.
These types of messages allowed me to become someone that tends to re-evaluate
themselves heavily and be ambitious about my dream goals.not become satisfied
with just being average or in a safe spot.
19th December 2018 (the day of the game). My brother called me and told me it
was time to leave to get to the match, so we decided to head out. On the way to the
stadium on Hornsey road, police officers on high horses segregated the fans. The
atmosphere was intense.
This atmosphere leading to the match enhanced my positive feelings towards
sports just seeing in real time how all these fans are so passionate and dedicated to
support their team really made me feel at home. This fan mentality allows me to
push the people around me to achieve more in life, I generally tend to focus on
myself but I don’t want anyone I care about to fall behind. To add on, a lot of my
charisma/sense of humor comes from my interaction with people through sport and
my ability click with new people has definitely originated from this.
Emirates Stadium (where the game was being held). The stadium slowly starts to
fill up like a someone ejecting popcorn into a box at the theater. It finally starts
many feelings throughout the game were exchanged around the stadium.
Unfortunately, Arsenal weren’t at their best that day and we ended up losing 2-0.
Even though I was devastated that we ended up losing, but I was stillthankful
joyful for the to have the experience of being at the game and being able to support
my team. . The experience when watching a game on a screen is completely
different from real life. IIn real life, you feel a type of tension atmosphere you
cannot simply feel with a 40 inch screenbehind a screen, if something dramatic
occurs there are multiple people around you sharing dramatic that momentst with
you. Essentially, sports brings people together and creates communities flawlessly
while giving people a sense of unity from a young age one of them being me.
Acquiring this skill it definitely filled a void for me and led me to be more
cooperative with people around me. Also by seeing the effort of players on the
pitch put on, gave me inspiration to put effort into the things I love. For example,
Astrophysics something that I’ve been researching for about 3 years now with the
hope of becoming an Astronaut or an Aerospace Engineer. Lastly ,So I say Tto the
people who think that sports are simply childish or even people who can’t
comprehend why it is loved so much, it predominantly gives us an escape from the
mundane life and ultimately gives us something we are missing from life.
