 Communication

ICT has changed the way people communicate :-

• People are better connected than in the past.

• Nowadays, we need not make phone call or send postal mails .
• ICT offers new means of communication that are cheaper and effective.
• ICT Communication is divide into 2 categories - Direct and Indirect Communication

Direct Communication

▸ Requires both ends - the sender and the recipient.

▸ Examples :-
 Messenger - users can exchange message in real time
 Voice over IP (VoIP) - users can make low cost voice calls through the
Internet.
 Video-conferencing - geographically isolated, users can hold meetings
in real-time.

Indirect Communication

▸ Both sender and recipient do not require synchronisation

or wait at the other end.
▸ The recipient can retrieve the content of the message at a
later time.
▸ Examples :-
▸ WWW, Email, File sharing, Social networking and more.

 Education

ICT has changed the way people learn and deliver knowledge :-

• With the use of the Learning Management System (LMS), classroom learning and
distance learning concept has been changed.
• Students are able to learn remotely from their respective places.
• ICT also provides interactive learning aids.

 Government

• ICT has enhanced government services to improve delivery of public services by being
more convenient, efficient and transparent.

 Publishing

• Desktop publishing uses ICT to make publication process faster and easier.
• Software can facilitate the whole publication process from drafting to editing.
• Digital publications have increasing readership these days.
