LAB SESSION 11
OBJECT:
To plot the characteristic curve of photo-resistor by varying levels of illumination.

EQUIPMENTS REQUIRED:
 Light Transducer and Control Module G13/EV
 Light Transducer Interface Unit TY13/EV
 Measurement Unit IU9/EV
 Connecting Wire
 DIN Cable
 Module Holder

THEORY:
A photo-resistor is a junction-less passive semiconductor component. The resistance illumination
characteristic curve can be expressed as follows:

The photoconductive property causes it to vary its resistance when a light beam passes through
it. As the light intensity rises, resistance falls.
The photo-voltage resistor's illumination characteristic curve can be expressed as follows:

The photoconductive effect causes it to vary its voltage as a light beam passes through it.
Withmore light, the voltage rises.

SIGNAL CONDITIONING:
Normally, it is impossible to directly alter the electrical quality of a transducer's output. In
addition to the transducer, a signal conditioner is always provided for this. One electrical
quantity is converted by the signal conditioner into another that is better suited for the
particular application.

PROCEDURE:
 Connect jumper 2 to 11 as directed by the TV13/EV module unit.

 Turn the LDR switch to position A to isolate.

 Connect the terminals 16 and 17 of a multimeter to measure resistance, and connect

terminal 28 to the ground to measure voltage.

 Connect all required supplies to the GV13. Set the lamp to its widest distribution.

 Set the LUX potentiometer to the highest setting.

 Move the transducer close to the light and to the divide marked TY13.

 Read the resistance and voltage figures the multimeter has displayed.

 Plot resistance and voltage on the Y-axis of the graph, with illumination on the X-axis.

 The points are joined to create the Characteristic curve.

OBSERVATIONS:

2 68 1.283k 2.6
3 83 1.102k 3.2

RESULT:
As from above observation it is concluded that a photo-resistor is a sensor that changes
its resistance (decreases from top to bottom) and voltage (increases from top to
bottom) .when light shines on it. The characteristic curve of photo-resistor is drawn and
examined.

As from over perception it is concluded that a photo-resistor could be a sensor that changes
