Call to Confession

SLIDE
Prayer of Confession (unison)
God of mercy and grace,
we are meant to praise you and give thanks to you always.
We confess that we often do not live out of gratitude.
We harbor resentment for what we lack.
We blame you; we blame others.
We doubt your compassion.
We find it hard to give ourselves away to you, or to others,
in generous expressions of gratitude and praise.
Forgive us.
Heal and restore us so that we may return to you
with a right spirit.
Help us to live holy and joyful lives.
SLIDE
Assurance of God’s Promise
One: In the waters of baptism,
we have died with Christ
and we have been raised with Christ to new life.
Nothing in life or in death can separate us
from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
In Christ we are forgiven and set free
to live in praise and thanksgiving!
All: Thanks be to God!

Presentation
Do you desire that Shep be baptized?

Relying on God’s grace, do you promise to live the Christian faith, and to teach
that faith to Shep?

Do you, as members of the church of Jesus Christ, promise to guide and nurture
Shep by word and deed, with love and prayer? We do.

Will you encourage him to know and follow Christ and to be a faithful member of
Christ’s church? We will.

Profession of Faith
Trusting in the gracious mercy of God, do you turn from the ways of sin and
renounce evil and its power in the world?

Relying on God’s grace, will you be Christ’s faithful disciple, following in the
way of Jesus, showing love and justice, and witnessing to the work and word of
Jesus Christ as best as you are able?
SLIDE
In life and in death we belong to God.
Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the
communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One
of Israel, whom alone we worship and serve.
We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God.
We trust in God, whom Jesus called Abba, Father.
We trust in God the Holy Spirit, everywhere the giver and renewer of life.
With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in life or in
death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
