3. Presentation
Explain that the sentences in the chart follow the S-TV-DO or Subject-
Transitive-Direct Object pattern and S-TV-IO-DO or Subject-Transitive
Verb-Indirect Object-Direct Object pattern.
Discuss that transitive verb is one that needs an object to complete its
meaning. This object is thing or person acted upon or the receiver of
the action. The object of the transitive verb may be a noun or a
pronoun and is called to direct object. The direct object answers the
questions what or who?
Give examples and elicit example to the students.
Discuss that sometimes transitive verbs take two objects, the direct
object and another object which receives the action of the direct object.
This is the indirect object. An indirect object may be a noun or a
pronoun. It answers the question to whom or for whom? It is usually
between the transitive verb and direct object.
Give examples and elicit example to the students.
