Start off by demonstrating the correct form using the following steps:
5 min
Passing a soccer ball:

● Identify the target

● Move towards the ball

● Place the non-kicking foot next to the ball (toe should be

pointed toward the target)

● Look at the ball and lock your ankle in the kicking foot

● Make solid contact with the ball with the inside of foot

● Follow through- the foot should point toward target

● Transfer weight from the back heel to the front of the non-
kicking foot

Select two students to demonstrate passing the soccer ball back and
forth.

Explain the concept of trapping or receiving a soccer ball:

● Keep your eye on the ball

● Select which food is going to be your receiving/trapping foot

● Receive/trap the ball with the selected foot with the ankle in a
locked position

● As the ball makes contact absorb the force by drawing your

foot backwards. Lessing the force of the ball keeping it from
bouncing away and the ball close to you.

Activate Prior Knowledge

3 minutes correctly?” “Why is passing and receiving important to the game of
soccer?”

Procedures/Activities
10 minutes: Passing Drills

10-15 feet away from their partner. Next students will practice
passing and receiving the ball using the cues for correct form we
previously learned.

During the partner passing drill the teacher will be circulating,

correcting incorrect form and encouraging students. As students
become comfortable passing and receiving the ball with their partner
two groups will combine to form one group of four. Next, they will
form groups of eight.

Once they have become comfortable with groups of eight, students

will then split into two lines facing each other. Line 1 starts with the
ball in the front of it and passes it to line 2. Once the passer has
passed the ball to the receiver in the opposite line, they follow their
pass and move to the end of the line they passed to. This continuous
passing drill will continue until each student has been through the
lines four times.

10 minutes: 6 vs. 4 passing drill

Students will divide into two teams of six and two teams of 4. Two
playing fields 50 feet x 50 feet will be designated by cones. Each
playing field will have one team of six and one team of four on it.
The teams of six will apply the passing and trapping skills in game
like situations by keeping the ball away from the team of four. The
goal is for the team to pass to all students before the team of four can
steal the ball. Once the ball is stolen, whoever stole the ball switches
to offense and whoever lost the ball switches to defense.
.

Conclusion
Students will gather up all materials/equipment used, and they will
then congregate in the middle of the soccer field to debrief the
lesson.
3 min

Assessment of Student
Learning Students will be assessed based on their participation and the steps
required to pass and receive a soccer ball correctly. During the
3 minutes debriefing in the middle of the field they will be asked to explain the
steps and ques used to passed and receive a soccer ball
