ACTIVITY 6
According to Gramsci's quotes, he hates how people become indifferent, a people that no one cares
about what happened or for anything and anyone that surrounds him. In short, Unconcern to what
happens or doesn’t put effort into something. According to him, he believes that living means
taking sides. It means that as we are alive, we must take sides. We must have a wise decision to
take. He added that being alive, a person cannot help being a citizen and become partisan. This
quote also means that when you are separating yourself from other people, it is considered
indifference. Especially nowadays, the world is facing great trials. We need to have the care we
need to take part in what happens around us.
ACTIVITY 7
1. Why do we put up pine trees during the Christmas season? Why not other trees?

According to the Alpine bible, no one knows why we decorate pine trees, and it's too
difficult to determine who initiated the tradition based on historical facts. But because so
many Christmas tree customs glorify Jesus, it may inspire us to keep up these customs in
the name of the Savior. It also stated that the first person who brought a pine tree inside his
home to decorate for Christmas was the German preacher Martin Luther, who lived in the
16th century. It says that Martin was walking through the forest one evening before
Christmas when he looked up and noticed stars sparkling through a pine tree's limbs.
Because of how lovely it was, he took the tree home. It reminded him of Jesus, who came
to earth at Christmas after leaving the heavens, he told his kids. Martin and his family
decorated the tree with candles to serve as a reminder of Jesus, who is the source of all
light. Martin Luther's life story is just one of several tales that shed light on the origins of
this Christmas custom. But other Christmas tree tales that surround our custom of
decorating pine trees for Christmas help us comprehend it in a slightly different way.

To begin with, why do we put up pine trees during the Christmas season? The other trees
during winter look dead during the winter season and after the fall season. Other trees start
losing their leaves, but the pine tree is still healthy and alive. As you look over the forest
during winter, the pine trees never die, and a healthy green tint can also be visible. Jesus
continues to be alive forever, just like a pine tree does. Death won't stop Jesus, just as cold
won't stop a pine tree. In addition, the top of a pine tree points to heaven. Unlike the other
top trees that become bushy and wide, the pine tree has an arrow-like form and points
upward. This pointing tree serves as a reminder to lift our gaze to the sky. Jesus came to
this world as a servant to die for our sins, and when He ascends to heaven as the King, He
will reign once more. At last, the green pine serves as a reminder to anticipate the moment
when other trees will reappear. The pine tree represents the wish that spring would revive
other trees. Jesus exhorts us to anticipate fresh life in Him, just as the pine tree inspires us
to anticipate new life in the spring.

2. Why do we give diamonds as engagement rings? Why not other types of stone?

In earlier times, the first engagement rings were far less romantic than they are today. In
the past, it symbolized ownership. Women were given gold rings by their husbands and
metal ones to wear at home to show they belonged to their husbands. Nowadays or
presently, giving a diamond ring as an engagement ring is very popular in almost every
culture. It symbolized mutual commitments and ever-lasting love. Furthermore, a diamond
engagement ring can say a lot about the bride’s personality. e.g., a traditional bride may
love a classic white diamond in a brilliant round cut, and a more modern bride may love
something more unique like a pear-shaped natural fancy yellow diamond ring.

3. Why do we have summer breaks in school?

Because of summer break in school, this is the time to learn new things. It gives the student
and their families to go on vacation or to their province to get some rest. Furthermore, it is
also a time for the student to experience life or develop new skills that are not taught in
school. Long ago, children were expected to help their families on the farm. Nowadays,
this is still happening. Other students find a job when they have a summer break in school
to be able to help their parents with their finances and save up money.

ACTIVITY 8
Explain Marx’s theory of commodification and how the Frankfurt school applied this in their
critical theory. How did this affected our culture? Who benefits most from this? Give a
concrete and practical example on how this theory works
According to max's theory of commodification, the men on the top that can notice in the pyramid
in a capitalist system are the people who have a superpower to get high-profit or control the cultural
industry. In our situation, if we compare this to what problems the country faces right now the
most, who benefits from this is some corrupt officials who have power. If we based on the pyramid,
most who gain benefits are the people on top. A concrete example of this is giving cash assistance
to those people experiencing poverty because of the pandemic and people who lost their job. It
happens the government will allocate funds. But because workers in the government have power
or there are still corrupt officials, the victims cannot receive that cash.

LEARNING ACTIVITY 10: NEW 3-2-1
3 NEW THOUGHTS/IDEAS ON CULTURE:
1. A culture can also be learn
2. Through what you learn and what you notice in your friends or outside the community,
there is a possibility of change because when you surround yourself with people who
have different cultures also, there will be a curiosity for you to try the culture they had
too, this also has a process before you get used to the culture they have.
3. A culture will develop through communication by sharing your values or usually
experiences. This development could have an advantage on the behavior you respond
to your experiences. Because you are communicating, you are both sharing values or
the way of looking at the world. There is also the development which can be bad for
you if you are outside the community or at your friend's house. For example, some of
your friends do not give a high value to their parents. In this situation, you can learn or
possibly adopt this culture.
2 NEW QUESTION
1. What are the two types of culture?
2. What are the cultures that we have acquired in other countries that are now used or
often found in Filipinos today?

1 NEW ANALOGY ABOUT CULTURE

Culture is like a book because, in culture you have a lot to learned and just like reading a
book there is also a lot of information, and ideas you can pick up, but you will spend a long
time to learn it. In culture also there are process, you needed to spend a time to learn, and
to adopt the culture of other’s before you get used to it.

LEARNING ACTIVITY 11 3:2:1

Before, I used to think that culture was only the set or a shared system of values, beliefs, customs,
languages, habits, and norms of every family in this country. I used to think that every country has
a different culture which is why it is essential to have a piece of knowledge to be able for us to
learn about the word "Respect." It also includes manners, dress, religion, and rituals of people in
the community when we talk about culture.
But now, I learned that culture, through what you observe or notice in the culture and behavior,
it’s either good or bad behavior and culture of every people surrounding you, there will be a chance
for you to learn or adopt that culture. A culture can also develop through socialization. It is also
an opportunity for us to unite, even if the culture is dissimilar.
