4. Course Synopsis:
This course aims at providing the students with major relevant topics in ḥadīth and sunnah
studies. The students will be exposed to the concept, structure, and functions of ḥadīth and
sunnah as constructed in Islamic intellectual tradition. Subsequently, the Islamic concept
of followship will be explicated followed by an exposition of Muslim scholarship in the
field of ḥadīth verification and evaluation. This course is appended with discussions on
selected thematic studies of ḥadīth and the utilisation of advanced technology in the field
to facilitate the integration between ḥadīth studies with various disciplines of human
knowledge.
5. SAF Elements:
The SAF elements incorporated in this course may be reflected as Sunnah studies in both
epistemic and practical dimensions provide the basis for Sejahtera Academic Framework
(SAF) inculcating the spirit of “read” (iqrāʾ). This course inculcates the essential value of
amānah (trustworthiness) and khalīfah (vicegerent) in the pursuit of identifying and
managing the sources of Islamic tradition and provides the essential knowledge on
scriptural paradigm such as the concept of maqāṣid al-sharīʿah.
