7.0 PROCEDURE / WORK METHOD:

General:
- Before starting work.
-Emergency procedures to be explained for all workers.
-Prepare the fire extinguishers.
-Prepare the necessary hand tools (wrenches, hammers…).
-Lifting equipment inspected by third party (INSPECT Algeria), and color coding applied by EA
competent person.
-Mark up safety perimeter & barricade will be in place around the work area.
-Preparation of fittings (flanges, caps, valves…).
-Installation of test equipment to place.
-Preparation of different possible connections.
Tasks Sequences
1. Lines shall be Tested with clean, dry, oil free air or nitrogen and pneumatic test systems
shall be kept as small as possible in terms of volume.
2. The compressed air will be used as the medium for pressurizing up and there after nitrogen
gas will be used up to the test pressure.
3. The lines will be thoroughly cleaned by blowing with air to remove all dirt and foreign matter
inside the pipes.
4. The test Schedule giving the material class, test pressure as per line list and details of test
medium will be prepared for each loop test.
5. All piping components That may hinder the tests or which may be damaged during the
tests shall be removed before the test and replaced after the completion of test.
6. Pressure gauge shall be located at high and lowest point of the system. The gauges shall
be perfectly calibrated and reset to zero.
7. All relief valves and pressure gauge certificates will be included in the test pack.
8. The test pressure diagram and the test manifold arrangement showing the location of air
vents, safety relief valve and pressure gauge shall be attached.
9. Testing
a. The system under test shall be gradually pressurized as per approved pressurization
procedure.
b. Pressure shall then be reduced to design pressure and all joints shall be inspected for
leaks with soap suds. The joint shall be swabbed with soap solution to detect the leak.
c. When the test pressure has stabilized, the cylinder shall be disconnected. The pressure
shall be held for one hour and then reduced to design pressure after which all the welded and/or

threaded joints shall be inspected for leaks with soap suds.

d. Once the above checks have been carried out and if there is no drop in pressure the test
can be considered as completed.
e. Pneumatic test pressure shall not exceed 125% of the operating pressure and also shall
not exceed 110% of the design pressure.
f. All defects revealed by the test shall be repaired and re-tested.
10. Throughout the Testing period, the pressure is to be closely monitored to ensure that over
pressuring due to thermal expansion does not occur. Venting to relieve any over pressure shall
be done.
11. After completion of Testing, the system shall be de-pressurized in a safe manner, as was
done during pressuring.
12. After testing, systems shall be reinstated.

8.0 SAFETY:
-As specific JSA for the various stages of the work shall be prepared and reviewed prior to
commencing of the works.
