Facts:

Ms. Cheng Than received honors and a master's degree in business administration from a
prestigious university, and was awarded the title of certified speech expert by the National
Speakers Association of the United States. She has won numerous awards as a professional
speaker. Her strong background in learning, development and managing large corporate
teams makes her the perfect fit.

Therefore; Miss Than applied for the vacant position of that company ABX via online, since
most of the applicant processing today is an online application because of the protocol, one
day the HR manager of ABX called her for an initial interview thru phone. She did it
fortunately. Then Hr manager instructed the final interview to be done by the HR Director, a
day after the said director conducted the interview, however the result was negative.

Accordingly; the HR Director denied her application because director learned that her
religion is Muslim and she stated that is the company policy, therefore Miss Than, shocked
that superficial simple reason, she knows already that there’s a law in the Philippines, which
is Anti- discrimination law under The Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 “protects against
discrimination on the basis of “race,” which is defined to include “ethno-religious” origin.).”

Question # 1- 10 points

In case you experienced the same, what steps should you take in such circumstances?

If I experienced what Ms. Than has gone through, I would file a case to the government
agency as there is an existing law about anti-discrimination. Also, if I wouldn’t file a case, a
lot of applicants might experience what I experience, not just on the company but also on
other companies. These will be a lesson to the company and other companies that they
shouldn’t discriminate based on religion, even gender, and race. Discrimination has been a
problem in our society that we must address. Many of us have faced discrimination at work
and even in schools. People do not choose a place to discriminate, they do it everywhere to be
satisfied and to think they are higher than you that’s why we should know how to fight all
those who discriminate against us, not physically, but by doing the right thing. We won't be
able to improve our environment if we remain silent, and we will only suffer as a result.

Do you agree that this circumstances scope the RA 10627 ( AN ACT REQUIRING ALL
ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS TO ADOPT POLICIES TO PREVENT
AND ADDRESS THE ACTS OF BULLYING IN THEIR INSTITUTIONS.) here in the
Philippines? If Yes or If No your answer.

At a young age, they don’t know the consequences of their action. They are oblivious to their
own limitations as well as the feelings of others. Bullying is one of the most common issues
that students face in school. They are afraid to tell their teachers because if their bullies find
out, they would bully him/her even more. As a result, many kids who are bullied drop out of
school, while others are afraid to attend school because they will see their bullies. That’s why
I agree with RA 10627, which mandates that all elementary and secondary schools implement
policies to prevent and address bullying in their schools, as the rate of bullying is increasing
every year. Students should understand how they should act and what penalties they will face
if they bully someone as early as now.
