Nursing Personal Statement

Nursing is a professional career or practice of providing care to the ill or infirm. Registered

nurses are the backbone of the healthcare provision profession. From encompassing the
promotion of health, prevention of illness, and care for the physically ill, mentally ill, and

disabled at all ages, nurses prove daily just how vital their services are to the people. The passion

and interests that drive me, people who fuel my thirst to strive, experiences that prompted my

desire to care, and my ability to put in the hard work are the driving force for my desire to apply

for this nursing practitioner program.

Passion and interest play a massive role in the picking of a career. Mine has always been to care

for others. Divorce took my chance to take do this but the desire to care for someone else drew

me towards nursing. The personal challenges throughout my life have allured me towards

pursuing nursing. I believe that the nursing program is the best fit for me since caring for others

is what my brain is wired to do and my heart desires. The profession promises a chance to work

closely with patients, understand their needs and deliver personalized care to improve patient

outcomes.

I have a sister. On her delivery day, I had to rush into her delivery room in Toronto for an

emergency delivery. I aided her during my two-day stay with her at the hospital. I guided her, an

action that was backed by the doctor who always said, “listen to your sister”, and when I had to

leave, handing over her care duties to my mother, my sister told me that the nurses asked if I was

a nurse. On that day people saw that I had qualities in me that served the healthcare profession,
so nursing fit in perfectly as a final career path.

Another experience I have had, a closer and more frequent one, with nurses began when my

daughter was born and diagnosed with Right Middle Cerebral Artery Stroke. This began a period

of regular hospital visits, diagnostics tests, and hospital stays for periodic checkups once in six

months. The care provided to my daughter was immensely heartwarming. The nurse assigned to

my daughter always did her job, to help, and do it with a smile on her face, and did it as kindly as

any human with a good heart would. I am a nurturing mother and through caring for my

daughter, I learned patience, resilience, and compassion.

While the curriculum is rigorous, I believe that my prior academic experiences and achievements

in dental school, and currently nursing school, added to personal life-long experiences have laid

me the perfect foundation to work and succeed in the program at Penn Nursing. As a student in

the Advanced Degree in Nursing Program, I am attaining advanced knowledge in the field and

upon graduation, I look forward to beginning a career that allows me to pursue a life of service in

healthcare. I am nurturing, resilient, dedicated, passionate, emotionally connected, assiduous,

responsible, punctual, and organized, all pivotal qualities required to have a shot in this

profession.

I am extremely grateful for the chance given to me by taking the time to review my application.

Hearing from you will be a delight held in the highest regard.

Sincerely

Preeti Sidhu
