Dear UCHealth Talent Acquisition Team,

I am excited at the prospect of working at UCHealth because I find joy working closely with patients
at the bedside, and UCHealth is an admirable hospital known for its excellence. I am currently a
nursing student at the University of Arizona and am moving to Colorado this summer. I am applying
for a position in the Graduate Nurse Residency Program at UCHealth because I am inspired by the
hospital’s mission of improving lives through personal connection and its value of patient’s first. In
addition, evidence has shown that new graduate residency programs improve patient care and
increase patient satisfaction, so being a part of this program is important because it will benefit the
patients I care for.

I believe I possess the skills needed to be an incredible nurse because I am passionate about being an
advocate for patients who need care and support, and participating in therapeutic communication
with each patient and family member based on their needs. I also work well as part of an
interdisciplinary team, am able to implement instructions given by providers in a timely manner, and
am able to think critically to create a care plan individualized to each patient. I had the opportunity to
understand and implement these skills during a five-week preceptorship on a medical-surgical unit,
where I felt I truly became part of the team and was able to provide quality patient care unique to
each patient. I am also able to adapt well to different areas and situations, which I realized as I
adjusted quickly to each of the many units I worked on during my clinical rotations. Faculty have
also commented upon and been grateful for my flexibility when things have not gone as planned.
During my clinical rotations, I had the opportunity to work in several hospitals and many different
units, including medical-surgical units, several ICUs, oncology units, operating rooms, OB and
women’s health units, wound and cancer clinics, and a long-term care facility. In addition to my
clinical rotation experiences, I have three years of experience working closely with customers in
retail, during which I learned that I love working closely with people and that I am able to stay calm
and supportive in times of stress and when others are undergoing hardships. I have also learned
through all these experiences that working in a hospital, and caring for and supporting people is
where I thrive.
During my ICU rotation, the mother of a patient I was caring for told me, “You will make a great
nurse because you are so attentive to my son and I can tell you genuinely care about him.” I am
proud she noticed this because I believe it is extremely important for me to be attentive to my
patients and I do genuinely care about each patient I care for. I believe my compassion for others and
my love of helping others will make me an excellent nurse on the team at UCHealth and I would
appreciate an opportunity to interview for a position in the Graduate Nurse Residency Program and
can be reached by telephone at 509-675-4078 and by email at jestebbins@email.arizona.edu. Thank
you for your time, I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Stebbins
