IU POLICIES AND GUIDELINES FOR ALL MASTERS PROGRAMS

Hi All,

Hope you are doing well.

Congratulations on enrolling in your program. As you embark upon your learning journey, we
would like to take this opportunity to take you through the IU program policies and guidelines, so
that you can have a better understanding of the program requirements and plan your studies
accordingly.

You can always refer to this document later, whenever you have any doubts regarding your
program.

Duration of Access to IU Portal

Once you receive your IU credentials, you shall have access to the IU portal for the number of
semesters you have opted to study online. Please note that all learners are paying for a
limited-period subscription to the IU portal. (E.g. in MBA programs students pay for 1 semester
online and 2 semesters on campus. Each semester is considered 6 months long. Hence
students have 6 months of portal access.) If they fail to complete the course in time, they will
have to pay additional fees for accessing the IU portal which is a minimum of 6 months i.e, a
semester. IU reserves the right to charge full fees for this access and not discounted fees.

IU Course Structure

1. Study courses at the International University of Applied Sciences are offered on a

modular basis. A module consists of one or several module components, which are
complete in terms of content and sequence. The scope and duration of the modules are
regulated in the Module Handbook and in the Curriculum of the study course.
2. Modules are always to be studied as a whole. The content and order of modules are
listed in the Study and Examination Regulations of the study course. If the study course
includes language modules, then within the language modules each component must be
studied in chronological order
3. It is possible that the successful completion of a module is a prerequisite for taking an
examination in a module based on it. The details are provided in the module descriptions
of the study program in the current version
4. In the first 2 months, you will have access to enroll in the first 2 modules. Please enroll
for the modules which are part of the study calendar shared by upGrad.

Assessment Structure

The examinations or continuous examinations take the following forms or a combination of

forms:

1. Written Proctored examination A written examination can be in handwritten, electronic

(E-examination), or online form.
● A handwritten examination is written by hand on the campus or at an examination
center.
● An online proctored examination is written at a location chosen by the student.
During the examination, the student is connected to the internet and supervised
by a proctor with the help of a computer.
● E-Examinations are written at an examination center over a secure network or
the university intranet.
2. Oral examination
3. Research paper
4. Written assignment, homework assignment, written assignment with oral presentation,
project report, multimedia presentation, and multimedia online presentation
5. Case study
6. Project work in the dual studies teaching format
7. Reflection on praxis
8. Alternative examination formats

Grading Policy

● To verify the credits earned as part of an accumulating credit point system, each module
component is weighted according to the required workload. As a rule, 30 credit points
must be attained per semester.

● The credit points for a module are only awarded if the module has been passed with a
grade not lower than a “sufficient“ grade. The table below shows the grade and what it
signifies. Please notice in the German education system, lower grades are evaluated
better than higher grades. The modules/module components to be passed are
determined by the curriculum of the study course, which is described in the study and
examination regulations of the study course. Achievements in other subjects cannot
offset them. The total credit points of the study course are determined by the curriculum
overview.

2
1 96 - 100 % Very good

1.3 91 - 95.9% Very good

1.7 86 - 90.9% Good

2 81 - 85.9% Good

2.3 76 - 80.9% Good

2.7 71 - 75.9% Satisfactory

3.3 61 - 65.9% Satisfactory

3.7 56 - 60.9% Sufficient

4 50 - 55.9% Sufficient

5 Under 50% Insufficient

● A credit point corresponds to a credit point in accordance with the European Credit
Transfer System (ECTS) and is associated with a workload of 30 hours.

Proctored exam: Attempts, results

As a part of the final evaluation, some modules will have a proctored exam.

● Number of attempts: Students are allowed 3 attempts for an exam. If a student does
not pass the exam in 3 attempts, he/she will be exmatriculated. An exam scheduled and
not taken (no-show) is also considered an attempt.

● Results: IU can take up to 6 weeks to release the results of proctored exams.

Submission-Based Exams: Attempts, Results

Some modules can have submissions as a part of the final evaluation.

● Number of attempts allowed: Students are allowed 3 attempts for submission-based

exams.

3
● Results: IU will start the evaluation of exams only at the end of the month when
submission is done and will release results in 6 weeks. (Hence the deadline of 6 weeks
starts from the 1st day of next month.) However, in the case of the third attempt, results
are issued twelve weeks after the exam.

Move to Campus (MTC): Rules and Eligibility

- ECTS Eligibility

● Students can put in a request to move to campus as soon as they have their notarized
documents (sent to the university through courier)
● However, they need to have at least 15 ECTS (i.e., they should clear a minimum 3
subjects before moving to campus.)
● Though there is a minimum mentioned here, students should complete their course
within the duration of the subscription (6months/12months) as any additional duration will
be chargeable as decided by IU.

● A document explaining the process to raise a request for moving to campus has been
attached here for your reference.

-Work-experience Eligibility

● Students must have completed the required level of work experience at the time of
application to move to campus. (2 years of work experience before moving to campus is
required for the MBA program) i.e., even if you have required ECTS to apply for move to
campus but your work experience falls short, you will have to wait to complete the
required work experience before you receive an offer letter to come on campus

-Time of application

● Students are allowed to apply for the move to campus for an intake anytime but IU starts
evaluation of such applications only 4 months before the intake starts on-campus (
For e.g. An October intake student needs to apply for move to campus latest by 31st
May which is 4 months (June, July, August, September) away from 1st October campus
start date)

- Remaining Modules Completion

● In case a student flies out to Germany but has not completed total ECTS of online
program enrolled for i.e., 30 ECTS for MBA or 60 ECTS for MIM/MSCS, the student will
have to enroll in all the remaining/pending modules and complete them online (on the IU
portal itself) in parallel with his/her on-campus studies for 2nd/3rd/4th semester (as the
case may be).

4
Plagiarism and Academic Integrity
● Upholding academic integrity throughout your learning journey is of paramount
importance.
● Any act of plagiarism in any submission or dishonest practice during proctored exams
will lead to access to the IU portal getting blocked. upGrad will not be supporting any
student in such cases he/she has to plead directly to IU.
● However students are allowed to resubmit as soon as the corrector's comments and
grade are published. They will be advised in the correctors´ comments (found in the
submission in Turnitin) as to whether they have failed to cite and/or plagiarized.

Steps to be followed in case of failing a proctored exam

If in any case, you have attempted any proctored exam and were unable to pass it, the following
steps are to be taken:

● Contact your IU course tutor over email. (Name of the tutor for a particular course can be
found on the relevant course page over the IU portal and the mail address of the tutor
can be found in Microsoft teams)
● Over the mail, you can ask for detailed feedback and an explanation as to what went
wrong in the examination.
● In case, that feedback isn’t enough, you can write to studentsupport@upgrad.com and
ask for a special TA session to be arranged where you can get your doubts resolved.

A video tutorial for the process is attached here for your reference.

Please be mindful of the fact that you get only 3 attempts for a proctored exam. So reach out
to our IU tutor and upGrad team at the earliest possible time.

Program Pause and Semester Fees Adjustment

This email is intended to clearly explain the correct procedure and provide complete
information about the leave of absence.

For Students opting for one semester online and the rest on campus:

● The semester duration at IU is 6 months (the number of achieved ECTS has nothing to
do with semester duration). After that, you will be automatically enrolled in the second
semester.

● During the 6 months, you are expected to finish the 30 ECTS allocated to you i.e.,
attempt all 6 exams within 6 months even if results are not achieved.

5
● You need to apply to move to campus via their MyCampus platform.

● If you are eligible to move to campus, you will be provided with the required documents
to apply for the German visa.

● If you didn’t complete the 30 ECTS of the first semester, you must enroll yourself in
these courses and finish them online while studying on campus.

If the student wasn’t eligible to move to campus for the desired intake or if his/her visa
application was denied by the German Embassy, the student has the right to apply for the
next intake.

The steps for doing so are as follows:

● You need to drop a mail and notify the admissions team.

(admissions-partnerships@iu.org)
● You must put your studies on pause by applying for a leave of absence. Otherwise, you
will be automatically enrolled for the 2nd semester.
● Before applying for the leave of absence, it is your responsibility to enroll in all the
outstanding modules.
● Once the leave of absence is approved, you shall no longer have access to the
MyCampus platform and can use only the email ID provided by IU for communication.
● Once the leave of absence is approved, you will no longer be able to enroll in modules
or take exams.
● If you have paid for 2 semesters and didn’t apply for a leave of absence as per the
deadline, the second-semester fees will be used up.
● The 1000 EUR Campus fee paid by you will be valid for the campus next intake you
have been deferred to and will not be requested again.
The leave of absence will be terminated once you reach campus.

Steps to submit a leave of absence:

MyCampus → Organize my studies → application management → 4. Student office online

studies → leave of absence

In case you have decided to do the 2nd semester online too:

● The student must inform the upGrad team first, and they must give their approval

6
● If a student has already paid for the 2nd semester then it is fine, else the student will
have to pay 2nd-semester fees to upGrad
● If the student paid the 1000 EUR campus fee, IU would refund 500 EUR. The other 500
EUR is for administration fees.
● Please note that students enrolled in the master’s entrance examinations and admission
courses are not eligible to apply to move to campus. The prerequisites should be cleared
first.
