Post Teaching Practice Self Assessment

Name Aldabayeva Kamila Date 12/02/2019 Lesson No1

Main Aim: Grammar and Listening
Did you achieve your aim? Yes
How do you know? They could talk about a film which they enjoyed or which inspired them. They
managed to use the Past Perfect Simple tense in their speeches. Also, students completed all
grammar and listening activities.

What worked well in your lesson? Why?

I believe that it is crucial and important to create a supportive environment and strengthen
the self-confidence of students that is why I carefully managed all activities for the class. There
were no particular problems with discipline in the classroom either since I tried to select
interesting educational material and use a variety of methods and techniques for working with it
in the classroom.
Students completed all activities successfully. They used Past Perfect to talk about the
sequence of events in the past. They were able to complete all grammar tasks successfully and
managed to distinguish the use of Past Simple and Past Perfect in practice. Students enjoyed
talking about their favorite movies that inspired them and included at least two sentences in the
Past Perfect Simple in their speeches. Students were active while they were being asked
questions.

If you taught the lesson again, what would you do differently? Why?
Of course, there were some difficulties. For instance, there are too overactive students and
too passive. Some of them want to be the center of attention, others not. It was necessary to find
an approach to such students, and, in most cases, I was able to cope with it. My general view on
teaching, education, and studies, in general, is that the aim is to enhance the students’ potential to
act in expected as well as unexpected situations. An important aspect of this, with a direct bearing
on teaching, is the concepts that are treated in the curriculum. Properly acquired they will
empower the student with new and greater potential to act. Therefore, next time I will try to select
the best approach that suits every kind of student.
Also, I need to carefully select activities and consider timing, because there was not enough
time for each student to talk.

Priority areas to work on in the next TP lessons:

 Prepare well for the lesson (lesson plan, visual aids, presentation, etc.,)
 Be organized and concentrated
 Be attentive and supportive (especially with shy and weak students)
 Keep time limit
