RESEARCH METHODS

1. The main difference between conceptual and empirical research is that conceptual
research involves abstract ideas and concepts, whereas empirical research involves
research based on observation, experiments and verifiable evidence.
Theoretical: Analyzes and makes connections between empirical studies to define or advance a
theoretical position.

2. PURPOSE OF APPLIED RESEARCH

To increase what is known about a problem with the goal of creating a better solution

3. What’s paraphrase
Paraphrasing is when you state the ideas from another source in your own words. Even when you
use your own words, if the ideas or facts came from another source, you need to cite where they
came from.

4. Difference between quantitative and qualitative research

Quantitative research is an approach for testing objective theories by examining the relationship
among variables whiles Qualitative research is an approach for exploring and understanding the
meaning individuals or groups ascribe to a social or human problem

Quantitative research Qualitative Research

Focuses on testing theories and hypotheses Focuses on exploring ideas and
formulating a theory or hypothesis

Analyzed through math and statistical Analyzed by summarizing, categorizing and

analysis interpreting

Mainly expressed in numbers, graphs and Mainly expressed in words

tables
Requires many respondents Requires few respondents
Closed (multiple choice) questions Open-ended question
5. Primary and secondary research
Primary data is any original information that you collect for the purposes of answering your
research question (e.g. through surveys, observations and experiments). Secondary data is
information that has already been collected by other researchers (e.g. in a government census or
previous scientific studies).

6. The starting point of any research?

The starting point in any research project is to formulate a question

7. Data collection instruments for quali and quanti?

Qualitative
: Open-Ended Surveys and Questionnaires, interviews,focus groups
Quantitative:
Closed-ended Surveys, quizzes, and questionnaires
8. Research design and Methodology differences and definitions
Research design is the overall structure of the research study whereas research methods are the
various processes, procedures, and tools used to collect and analyze data.

9. Definition of mixed approach, Explanatory and Explanatory

I. Mixed methods research combines elements of quantitative research and qualitative research in
order to answer your research question.
ii. •Explanatory sequential the researcher first conducts quantitative research, analyzes the results
and then builds on the results to explain them in more detail with qualitative research.
iii. Exploratory research is a methodology approach that investigates research questions that have
not previously been studied in depth
