Assessing your supply chain

It is necessary to fully understand the supply chain process in order to have a

steady growth and move towards the right direction to have a successful
Company. Likewise, it is important to be able to assess the different
processes happening within the supply chain so the company is more
competitive in the international market.

With that in mind, it is worth highlighting the role of being able to speak a
second language like English in every international business, especially the
ones involved within the International Physical Distribution. By speaking
this second language distances become no longer a process to exchange
knowledge with the entire world.

That is why, in order to help you to strengthen your skills with this foreign
language, you must develop the following workshop. Read and answer the
following questions:
1. Read the following questionnaire and answer the questions below:

 What kind of questions are mainly used to self-assess the given

supply chain? Why do you think it happens? Explain.

Measuring the performance of the supply chain implies making every effort to
monitor, audit and analyze the conditions of the company's logistics processes.
The SCOR model or Supply Chain Operations Reference model is perhaps the
most widely used performance evaluation model globally.
The following is a questionnaire used to self-assess to carry out the evaluation:
- How is the dialogue between managers and employees?
- What do you think can be improved in the dialogue with the client?
- ¿In your logistics process, are there ways to qualify your superiors?
- How do you think dialogue between people can be improved?
- How does the company save costs in logistics processes?
- How does the company save time and money in the planning processes?
- How quickly can the company respond to any problems that may arise in the
supply chain?

 Why do you think it is important to have different types of

questions to assess a supply chain?

It is important because with it we can evaluate the thoughts of each one of the
workers, we can measure their criteria and visualize the points to improve, to
increase efficiency and dialogue between the staff.
each item can evaluate different aspects of the organization; for example, you
can evaluate an aspect of the company, you can evaluate transportation, find
opportunities to improve in different aspects of the company by making only
one evaluation instead of doing one for each process.

 What aspects of the supply chain are being evaluated by means

of the given questionnaire? Explain.

The model is made up of five critical aspects: supply, storage, inventory

management, distribution and transportation and viceversa. These factors
include a set of variables that evaluate the planning, execution, measurement
and control of supply chain management.
 What kind of information can be analyzed to improve the current
situation of the supply chain?

Each state of the supply chain has its own topic to be analyzed:
- The Supplier: the raw material, and quality and the cost of it.
- The manufacturer: all the costs of the manufacture, the loss of raw
material and loss of final product.
- The warehouse: the cost of storage, planning and inventory costs.
- Transport: the cost of transport and the faster routes for a more
effective distribution.
- The distributor: He has to analyze the costs of his storage and
inventory, theroutes of distributions and the highest quality of the
merchandise he has to distribute to the retailers.
- The retailers: They have to analyze the best businesses with the
distributor to save costs; depending on the frequency of the supplying of the
products or services and the quantity the retailers ask for they can agree a
comfortable price to which each part can pay for.
- The final customer: is in charge of forecasting and researching the
future market

2. After analyzing the previous self-assessment questionnaire and

checking the complementary material “Sample supply chain
management questionnaire”, create your own questionnaire,
including different types of questions to assess one of the following
aspects (select only one):

 Customer experience.

 Customer service.

 Transportation management.

 Customer experience.

The customer satisfaction survey is a study that allows knowing the degree of
conformity with respect to a brand, product or service. Given that the interviewer
does not intervene in the response, the information collected is very valuable to
improve the service offer and processes.

3. Remember to include a short paragraph to explain why this questionnaire
is important for you as the Distribution Manager and for the company
itself. The questions you ask must cover different aspects of the topic being
evaluated. You must create minimum ten (10) questions and maximum,
twenty (20). Do not forget to include open and closed questions. The
potential information you collect, will be useful to make your company be
better.

In the questionnaire carried out previously, the satisfaction that the client has with the
service or the product, delivered by the company, was evaluated. One of the techniques
used by the company is good customer service, since they are the final element of the
supply chain, in addition to evaluating the quality of products and workers, they also
provide their criteria, to improve the Customer Support.
