Power Supply

What is power supply?

A power supply is a piece of hardware that supplies electricity to computers and other
electronic devices. It converts electrical current from a power source, such as an outlet, a
battery, or a generator, to the proper format and sends it to a device. It also prevents
overheating by regulating the voltage that is sent to the machine.

2
Level-3(Batch-10) Khit Thiri Su

Power supply’s function

A power supply converts alternating high voltage current (AC) into direct current (DC) and
regulates the DC output voltage to the precise tolerances required by modern computing
components.

What is Motherboard?

Motherboard

The motherboard is a printed circuit board and the foundation of the computer
which is the largest board in a computer case. It manages power and
communicates with the CPU, RAM, and other computer hardware.

3
Level-3(Batch-10) Khit Thiri Su

Motherboard’s function

The motherboard serves as the computer's backbone and on which other modular
components such as the CPU, RAM, and hard disks are placed.

The motherboard also serves as a platform for the installation of additional devices and
interfaces via expansion slots.

The motherboard is also in charge of transferring power to the computer's multiple parts.

What is Chipset?

Chipset

The chipset is a collection of interconnected motherboard chips or integrated circuits and is

a silicon backbone that is built into the motherboard and is compatible with particular CPU
versions. It acts as a medium between the CPU and the many storage and expansion
devices that are attached to it.

4
Level-3(Batch-10) Khit Thiri Su

Chipset’s function

Chipset manages data and instruction flow between the central processing unit (CPU) or
microprocessor and external devices. External buses, memory cache, and a few peripherals
are all controlled by the chipset. Without perfect chipset timing, a CPU will not work.

What is processor?

allow a computer to function.

5
Level-3(Batch-10) Khit Thiri Su

Processor’s function

The function of the CPU in a computer is to collect and organize data by completing all
mathematical and logical processes in order to deliver output data to users and therefore
perform on the computer. There are four functions in processor,

1.Input

2.Processing

3.Data storage

4.Output.

What is system memory?

System Memory

The random-access memory (RAM) in computer is one of the most essential components in
influencing the performance of the system. RAM provides a temporary storage and access
area for applications. It saves the information that your computer is now processing so that
it may be quickly accessed.

6
Level-3(Batch-10) Khit Thiri Su

System Memory’s Function

Rather of having to search the hard disk for information every time a computer requires it,
the computer temporarily saves frequently used files in RAM, making them quicker to
locate. When a computer shuts down, all of the data in RAM is wiped or moved to the hard
drive, creating place for fresh data when it restarts. The main functions of RAM are

1. Reading Files

2.Temporary Storage

3.Loading Applications

RAM (Random access memory)

A computer's short-term memory is also known as random access memory (RAM) and its
one of the essential things. RAM provides a temporary storage and access place for
applications. It saves the information that your computer is now using so that it can be
quickly accessed. Many of the computer's routine functions, such as downloading software,
accessing the internet, updating a spreadsheet, or playing the game, rely on RAM. Memory
also enables you to change swiftly between various jobs, storing where you were in the
previous one when you go to the next one. The more memory you have, the better it runs.

ROM (Read-only memory)

Read-only memory, also known as ROM, is a form of computer storage that contains non-
volatile, permanent data that can only be read, not written to. The programming that
enables a computer to start up or regenerate each time it is turned on, is stored in the ROM.
Large input, output operations are also performed in ROM, as well as the protection of
programs or software instructions. Data can't be erased from a ROM chip after it's been
written.

Level-3(Batch-10) Khit Thiri Su

What is hard disk drive?

Hard disk drives

A computer hard drive (also known as a hard disk or HDD) is a type of storage device that
holds your computer's operating system, programs, and data files such as documents,
photos, and music.

Hard disk drives’ function

A Hard Disk's primary function is to store computer data permanently. As a result, it's also
known as Permanent Storage. This information can take various forms, including personal
files, papers, software, and operating systems. The amount of data that may be stored on
these hard drives is determined by the hard disk's storage capacity.

8
Level-3(Batch-10) Khit Thiri Su

What is heat sink?

Heat Sink

A heatsink is a metal plate that sits on top of a computer chip, such as a CPU, and allows
heat to flow through a set of fins, removing heat from the components.

Heat Sink’s function

A heat sink is an element that helps in the removal of heat from a hot device. It
accomplishes this by increasing the operating surface area of the device and the amount of
low-temperature fluid that flows through it.

9
Level-3(Batch-10) Khit Thiri Su

What is system case?

System case

The box that holds most of the components of a personal computer is known as a system
case, sometimes known as a computer chassis, tower, system unit, or cabinet.

System Case’s function

System cases protect the computer chassis, hard drive, motherboard, and other internal
components in modern blade servers, computer networks, or tiny desktop units.

What is Monitor?

Monitors

A computer monitor is a picture-displaying device for computers. Televisions and monitors

have such a lot of similarities. A monitor differs from a television in that it lacks a television
tuner for changing channels. The display resolution on monitors is frequently greater than
on televisions. Smaller lettering and delicate images are simpler to read with a high display
resolution.

Monitor’s function

A computer monitor is a device that displays information in the form of pictures or text. The
visual display, electronics, housing, and power supply are all comprise by a monitor.

resources while also providing common functions to computer programs.

Why operating system is used?

The operating system is used on the computer since it controls all of the applications and
hardware. Several computer applications are usually operating at the same time, and they
all allow access to computer's central processing unit (CPU), memory, and storage. All of
this is organized by the operating system to ensure that each software receives the
resources it requires.

Window

Windows is a graphical operating system. It lets users read and save files, run applications,
play games, and watch movies, as well as connect to the internet. It was made available for
both personal and professional use. A window is a rectangular space that may be resized

and edited in accordance with the capabilities and restrictions put on it by the program that
provides it. In a contemporary operating system, the window is critical for multitasking
since it allows users to move between running apps visually and mechanically, as well as
interact with the system in general.

Linux
The open-source operating system Linux is the most well-known and widely used. Linux is
an operating system that sits at the top of all other software on a computer, accepting
requests from other applications and passing those requests to the computer's hardware.
Linux is comparable to other operating systems you may have used in the previous, such as
Windows, macOS (previously OS X), or iOS in many regards. Linux, like other operating
systems, contains a graphical interface and the same kinds of applications you're used to,
such as word processors, picture editing, and video editing. In many situations, the
developer of a program may have created a Linux version of the same program you use on
other platforms. In a nutshell, Linux can be used by anybody who can use a computer or
other electronic device. Nevertheless, Linux is still different from other operating systems in
various ways.
