PROJECT PLAN INCEPTION 2

Abstract

Brontech Solution Inc. is an innovative Internet-based company with gross revenues of

more than $35 million dollars per year. Brontech Solution Inc. will be merging with a

multinational corporation Skyhigh Software Inc. of equal size, as a result of joining it produces

Ravitech Software Inc., and we will be responsible for developing a project plan to integrate all

systems strategically which will include infrastructures and databases. Ravitech Software Inc.

will be responsible for providing the best software product to benefit both Brontech Solution Inc.

and Skyhigh Software Inc. With such report, Ravitech is to remain successful in years to come

because the network design ought to be able to keep pace with new technologies, applications,

and techniques allowing the organization are able to increase revenue, be able to communicate

with customers efficiently, and most likely reduce operational cost.

Current State of Brontech Solution Inc.

Brontech Solution Inc. is an IT company having twenty-five employees. They are Project

members, Project Managers, system administrators, software developers, sales and Marketing

persons, People in other development departments. We have started to use new technology and

needed guidance. We tried to develop our process but were overwhelmed by the task. We just

couldn't afford to establish and maintain it, so merging with another company of similar size will

ease the financial burden. With a team of five programmers who understands the company's

technology and its method of application. By creating our software of high quality, robust,

flexible, with an active developmental process, it gives the company high velocity with features

at a faster pace. Knowing the core application and expanding on functionality, the desire to

expand into data warehousing arise base on the relational databases and operational systems of

the organization. With some terminals connected in LAN to a central server, it allows for
PROJECT PLAN INCEPTION 3

connection of Internet to the entire facility. In meeting the needs of the company, redesigning all

software and hardware is compulsory since the company has an onsite and hosted solution.

Brontech is expected to integrate technologies from various service providers to incorporate best

practices of the organization to develop technological systems. Also, we are extremely

interested in cloud technologies and virtualization with the implementation of proper security

protocols. Brontech has one primary data center operation which is going to migrate to a new

headquarters building. Brontech will ensure a smooth transition and upgrade of all equipment, as

well as network emphasizing on infrastructure's security to ease the move (Kurose & Ross,

2008).

Brontech’s Business Activities

According to Afzal (2015), business activities include new software development, which

is the application software for the requested clients. The IT department of Brontech is looking at

designing and creating a cost-efficient network internally that will extend throughout the

country. For proper functioning, the system administrators are solely responsible for developing

a system that will be able to connect both emerging companies and remote data warehouse

operations to provide an all-around clock service to both employees and customers. Within this

project, the requirement is to update the existing LAN from one to three floors to be able to

connect the corporate headquarter, as well as Skyhigh Software Inc. Accessing of the wireless

network (WAN) by the sales department, marketing, accounting, employees, and customers

allows for easy access to information about the organizations' product and services. With the

system, Brontech will be able to have access to sales invoices, revenue reporting, inventory

management, and sales management. Lowering cost permits Brontech to provide onsite services

while designing the system because being able to deliver a high-quality system allows Brontech
PROJECT PLAN INCEPTION 4

to provide one hundred percent of its the time to this project which will reduce any delays. This

report presents recommendations that enable Brontech to remain successful for years to come.

Outsourcing and Offshoring Opportunities

According to Davidson (2010), both outsourcing and offshoring are a means of which a company

performs to save money, but only offshoring can hurt a nation's economy because it involves the

sending of jobs to another country for one or many reasons.

Outsourcing

Outsourcing is usually a process where a company decides to contract with another

company or third party to conduct a particular process. For Brontech to speculate on outsourcing,

it will depend on Brontech's daily operations to whether the assigned task needs an outside

provider. Brontech's decision to outsource its services focus primarily on saving money by

lowering its rates, better quality of work, and sense of acquiring a strategic edge over the

competition. Outsourcing is performing services for Brontech for individuals that are not full-

time employees of the enterprise. Selecting the right provider to outsource task is essential

because it will lower cost, maximize time, better productivity, and more likely profitable.

Offshoring

In reverse of outsourcing, offshoring occurs when organizations send in-house jobs to

other countries of the world (overseas). Brontech’s decision to send jobs to another country will

solely depend on if there are no providers within its host country that can perform the task

imperatively. Brontech’s sole concern will focus on security to ensure the approach meets the

goal.

Brontech’s Current Information Systems

According to White (2016), for any business to function properly, its core duties are to be

able to conserve data for competitive advantage. The necessity for using relational databases by

contemporary organizations presents a tremendous way of storing information, but data

warehousing is now becoming a priority due to the analyzation of an enormous amount of data

with the diverse sources from which data comes. Brontech gathers data by using Web analytics

and operational systems to develop an overview of solutions that will incorporate the use of data

warehousing.

Operational Systems

Operational systems optimize the preservation of data integrity and speed of recording of

business transactions through the use of database normalization and an entity-relationship model.

Functional system designers follow the Codd rules of database normalization to make sure there

is the integrity of data. In improving performance, purging previous data periodically from the

operation system prevents loss of data.

Databases and Data Warehousing

A database record data, while a data warehouse analyzes the data recorded in the

database. Every company uses some type of data creation system such as accounting systems,

human resources, operational systems which generates a lot of data these data has to undergo a

process of application, as well as moving into different structures (White, 2016).

Databases: The databases of Brontech Solution Inc. primarily functions as a collection of

relational data, network, and hierarchical data. Databases contain data in which Brontech uses to
PROJECT PLAN INCEPTION 6

manage and or manipulate the stored data. Objects such like queries, tables, and reports

compromises of the database.

Data Warehousing: A data warehouse is a receptacle of Brontech in which to store bulk

data, as well as filtering and organizing. Data warehousing helps facilitating reporting and

analysis of information. A data warehouse has tools for extraction, transformation, and loading

of data into the repository, and also helps to manage and retrieve Meta data. Generally, data

warehousing is a collection or combination of many databases across an organization.

Cloud Technology and Virtualization

According to Beckham (2011), cloud technology and virtualization works in connection

with each other to help maximize current company’s resources and control cost. Cloud

computing need virtualization to work and function properly, but it is not cloud computing. With

the combination of virtualization and cloud computing help build a cloud infrastructure.

Cloud Technology: Cloud computing is a technology, but also a methodology. Brontech

will use the technology of cloud computing can and often includes products of virtualization to

be able to present computer services. With cloud technology, Brontech can provide elasticity,

automated management, scalability, and self-service capability. Brontech is more like to use a

private cloud because it is its virtualized environment which will give the users more control and

the flexibility of managing the systems.

Virtualization: Brontech will use virtualization to separate physical infrastructures to

create dedicated sources because virtualization is the underlying technology to power cloud

technology. With virtualization, it is possible for Brontech to run multiple operating systems and

multiple applications at the same time on the same server. Brontech will use VMware to enable
PROJECT PLAN INCEPTION 7

cost reduction, flexibility, to increase efficiency and utilization of previous computer hardware.

Network Infrastructure and Security

According to Harwood (2016), the network infrastructure is the software and hardware

resources of a network that permits the network connectivity to conduct operations,

communication, and management of the entire system. The network infrastructure is the IT

infrastructure interconnected with the system for internal and external communication and

consists of the network hardware, networking software, and the network services.

Network Infrastructure: With the network infrastructure, Brontech Solution Inc. will

use a router (wired and wireless), wireless LAN, wired LAN, cables, operating systems,

firewalls, and network security applications to ensure the entire system has protection to prevent

loss of data.

Security: The purpose of security in many organizations is to prevent loss of information

to individuals of malicious acts. Brontech Solution Inc. will design a secure IP/MPLS

infrastructure to help defend against malicious attacks and threats because of continuous change

in behavior and characteristics. Brontech Solution Inc. will implement multilayered defense

system, be able to control the behavior of the network, and finally the visibility of the network

behavior.

Conclusion

For this particular project, Inception is important because it is a phase to achieve

concurrence among all according to the objectives of the lifecycle. The significance of the

creation phase is mostly for new development to discuss business risk before carrying out the
PROJECT PLAN INCEPTION 8

project. Most importantly, the inception of a project plan ensures that the project is worth doing

and it is possible to do.
