No Phone, No Problem
Start from October 10th, 2022, there is a new rule about handphone usage in
my school. Some students feel disappointed to this. They believe that spending
break time without handphone will bore them. They don’t think they have other
options to refresh their mind besides snacking and playing their phone. Some of
them also think that handphone is very useful in learning. They can search any
materials they need, translate English words, calculate some math problems, and
capture what is written on the board. I can see their points, but I think the school
has already come up with solutions to solve the problems.
I personally believe that there will be no problem without phone during the
day. The students can spend their breaktime by doing activities like directly talk to
others, playing some board games, cards, or do outdoor activities. As I understand,
teenagers nowadays are having too much addiction to their phone. They sleep with
their phone on their side. The first thing they look for when they wake up is their
phone. They always bring their phone everywhere they go, even to the bathroom.
They feel anxious when they forget to bring their phone with them.
Then, about phone usage during the lesson. As far as I concerned, some
students use their phone irresponsibly in class. Some of them often open their social
media while the teacher are explaining the materials. Some students even violate
the teachers’ privacy by taking pictures, video, and audio without the teachers’
concern. In conclusion, handphone could disturb the students’ focus in the class.
On the other hand, some students mentioned that handphone could help
them to learn effectively. For instance, in English lesson, by using their phone, the
students can translate the text faster than using traditional dictionary. At this point I
agree, but the school has already told the students that they still can use the phone
by the teacher’s permission. Therefore, there will be no problem.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that the new rule about handphone usage in
my school is a wise policy. It can save the students from phone addiction and there
is no essential problem if the phone is collected during the day.
