SECTION – B
Q.6. (a) For his morning walk Aslam went 110 meters towards east from his house and then turnedright to keep
walking for 40 meters betore turning right again. After continuing to walk for 50 more meters, he turned right
again and kept walking for another 120 meters, before he sat down on a bench at the park. How far was the
bench located from his house?

(b) The income of a company decreased by 10% and 15% in two successive years. What is the percentage of
decrease in income after two years?
Solution:
By using formula
10% decrease in first year 10% decrease in first year
𝒙×𝒚
% decrease = (−𝒙 – 𝒚 + )% = x – (10% of x)
= 100 – (10% of 100) 𝟏𝟎𝟎
𝟏𝟎 𝟏𝟎×𝟏𝟓 𝟏𝟎
= 100 – ( × 𝟏𝟎) = ( −𝟏𝟎 – 𝟏𝟓 + )% =x–( ×𝒙)
𝟏𝟎𝟎 𝟏𝟎𝟎 𝟏𝟎𝟎
= Rs. 90 = 0.9x
= ( −25 + 1.5 ) %
15% decrease in 2nd year 15% decrease in 2nd year
= −23.5%
= 90 – ( 15% 0f 90) = 0.9x – (15% of 0.9x)
= 76.5 = 0.765x
𝟏𝟎𝟎−𝟕𝟔.𝟓
= × 𝟏𝟎𝟎 = – 23.5%

(c) What do you understand by Mental Ability Scales? Differentiate between Aptitude and Intelligence?
Solution: Mental Ability: The level at which an individual learns, understands instructions and solved problems.
Mental ability, comprises both general abiity and a number of special ability(linguistic, mathematical, musical,
artistic and memorial). General ability denotes a power of mind that affects (to some degree) the quality of
virtually everything a person does.
Scales:
Perceptual speed: The ability to see differences and similarities among objects
INTELLIGENCE APPTITUDE
1. Intelligence is General mental ability 1. Aptitude is Specific ability of a person
2. The knowledge of intelligence of an 2. The knowledge of Aptitude, on other hand,
individual we can predict his success in a acquaints us with the specific abilities and
number of situations involving mental capacities of an individual to succeed in a
function or activity particular field of activity.
3. Wide scope 3. Narrow scope
4. It refers to present ability 4. It refers to future potentiality
5. It usually measured by how much a person 5. It usually measured by how well a person can
knows and can do certain areas perform certain task
Heredity provided the physical body to be developed with certain inherent capabilities while environment
provides for the maturation and training of the organism. In 1940 Newman concluded that variations in I.Q.
were determined about 68% by heredity and 32% by environment.
During an individual’s life time variation in I.Q. is due to environment, since the heredity cannot change.
Improved nutrition health, an stimulus situations would account for this change. Environment of children ages 2
to 4 years appears to be critical since the child normally learns language at this time. Better homes, school,
medical facilities, less economic discrimination. Provides a mean for achieving a mentally able population.
7.(a) The sum of three consecutive odd numbers is 273. What are the three odd numbers?
3x + 6 = 273
3x = 273 – 6
3x = 267
X = 267/3 = 89
Hence three numbers are: 89, 91, 93 their sum becomes 273.
-1 -2 -3 -4 -5
0, 2, 6, 12 20, 30, 42
+2 +4 +6 +8 +10 +12
(iv) 0, 2, 6, 12, 20, 30, ? →
(c)Find out the correct word from the given jumbled spellings.
(i) THRSI (ii) GNDREA (iii) SCHAMOT (iv) ONLNDO (V) HIODLY
Solution:
(i). SHIRT (ii). GARDEN (iii). STOMACH (Iv) .LONDON (v). HOLIDAY
(d) Sara's mother is 6 times older than Sara, where as her brother Ali is twice as old as Sara. In three years time
the sum of their ages will be 72. How old are Sara, Ali and their mother now ?
X + 2x + 3 + 6x + 3 = 72 → 9x + 9 = 72
9(x + 9) = 72 → x + 1 = 72/9
Solution: For a large population where a census is ruled out as being impractical the required
information is obtained from selected members (sample) that form a subset of the population, and the
process is called the Sampling.
Example: Sara, Talha and Hania could be three of the sampling units makigg up the population of
students in a sixth form.
Advantages: (i) For large and well mixed population, sample provides Sufficient information about
characteristic.
(iii) Using sampling rather than a census the data is more readily available.
Disadvantages:
Non-Probability(Non-Random) Sampling:
A process in which the personal judgement determines which units of the population are selected for a
sample. In other words, when no sampling frame is available.
Example: Quota Sampling: For example suppose you wished to get an idea about how the people within
your constituency are going to vote in an election. You would inteview a different number from each
age group.

shape of the tile is a right triangle, having the lengths of two legs of 12 cm and 4 cm. Each tile costs Rs.
15. How much will it cost to fill the lounge of 8 meters length and 6 meters width with these tiles?
Solution:

No: of tiles needed =

(c)During a sale a clerk was putting new price tags on each item. On one sweater, he accidentally (5)
raised the price by 20% instead of lowering the price by 20%. As a result the price on the tag was Rs. 80
