(b) The income of a company decreased by 10% and 15% in two successive years. What is the percentage of
decrease in income after two years?

(c) What do you understand by Mental Ability Scales? Differentiate between Aptitude and Intelligence?

Solution: Mental Ability: The level at which an individual learns, understands instructions and solved problems.

Mental ability, comprises both general abiity and a number of special ability(linguistic, mathematical, musical,
artistic and memorial). General ability denotes a power of mind that affects (to some degree) the quality of
virtually everything a person does.

(d) Discuss the factors affecting Intelligence.

Solution : 1) Heredity and Environment:

Heredity provided the physical body to be developed with certain inherent capabilities while environment
provides for the maturation and training of the organism. In 1940 Newman concluded that variations in I.Q.
were determined about 68% by heredity and 32% by environment.

During an individual’s life time variation in I.Q. is due to environment, since the heredity cannot change.
Improved nutrition health, an stimulus situations would account for this change. Environment of children ages 2
to 4 years appears to be critical since the child normally learns language at this time. Better homes, school,

Solution: Let x, x+2,x+4 be three required consecutive numbers

A/C : x + x+2 + x+4 = 273

3x + 6 = 273

3x = 273 – 6

3x = 267

X = 267/3 = 89

Question. 8(a): What do you understand by Sampling? Discuss Non-Probability Sampling

Solution: For a large population where a census is ruled out as being impractical the required
information is obtained from selected members (sample) that form a subset of the population, and the
process is called the Sampling.

The individual units of a population are called Sampling Units.

Example: Sara, Talha and Hania could be three of the sampling units makigg up the population of
students in a sixth form.

Advantages: (i) For large and well mixed population, sample provides Sufficient information about
characteristic.
