SIMPLE PROCEDURE:
Burette Solution : KMnO4
Pipette Solution: 20 ml of Std. Oxalic acid
Temperature : 600-700C
Medium : (Acidic medium )20 ml of 2N dilute H2SO4acid
Indicator : KMnO4 (Self)
End Point : Appearance of permanent pale pink color.
RESULT:
1. Molarity of the KMnO4 solution is ________________ M
2. The strength of KMnO4 solution with standard M/50 Oxalic Acid is __________ g/L .
OBSERVATIONS :PREPARATION OF STANDARD M/50 OXALIC ACID SOLUTION
Weigh 0.63 g of Oxalic acid crystals and dissolve them in water to prepare 250 ml 0f M/50Oxalic acid
soln in std flask.
126 X 250 X 1
Weight of Oxalic acid = = 0.63 g in 250
1000 X 50
ml
Molarity of oxalic acid soln =M/50
Molecular mass of Oxalic acid is 126 g.
Weight of the salt in 250 ml = _____________ g.
Molarity of Oxalic Acid = M/50 or 0.02 M .

CALCULATIONS:
M 2 V2 2
2 Moles of KMnO4 reacts with 5 moles of Oxalic salt. ∴ =
M 1 V1 5
M1 = Molarity of Oxalic Acid =M/50
V1 = Volume of Std. Oxalic Acid =20 ml.
V2 = Volume of KMnO4= ?
2 moles of KMnO4 reacts with 5 moles of Oxalic Acid.
2 X M 1 V1
M2 =
5V2
Molarity ofKMnO4 = ----------- M
Strength of KMnO4 = Molarity X Molecular mass of KMnO4
