III. SIMULATION

the minimum permissible. On fault clearance, voltage returns
to its initial value after a few well damped oscillations. Fig. 5
depicts the temporal evolution of voltage at bus 2. Despite the
presence of SVC, the voltage at bus 2 has a slight
improvement which is due to its location. However, with
UPFC the evolution of voltage magnitude is well damped.

The behaviour of IEEE 14-bus system during different


disturbances is analyzed. A comparative study that focuses on
the merits and demerits, of the devices, to assess their
contribution is performed. The simulation results have
revealed an inefficient action of SVC to maintaining voltage
stability. Therefore, we confirmed that UPFC device provides
a better and robust solution for rapidly enhancing the
reliability of power system. The proposed method is suitable
for a high-dimensional and practical power system.
