ELECTRIC CHARGE

Pairs of electrical charges have a force that acts between them. It is called the electric
force. Unlike gravity which can only be an attractive force, the electric force can be either
attractive or repulsive.

Electrostatics deals with the interaction of electric charge at rest.

The process of supplying the electric charge to an object or losing an electric charge
from an object is called charging. Electric charge is conserved. It can be transferred from one
object to another by moving electrons, but it cannot be created nor destroyed.

The law for electrostatic charge simply tells us that as charges repel and unlike charges
attract.
Coulomb’s law states that the electric force between two charges is proportional to the
product of the charges and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them.

EXERCISE. SOLVE ME!

INSTRUCTION: Show your solution completely by providing the given/s, the unknown/s,
the formula, and the final answers with the appropriate unit/s. Final answers should be up
to two decimal places.

1. Find the electrostatic force between charges of +2.0 C and +5.0 C separated by 75 m in a
vacuum.
2. Two charges of +8.0 mC and -6.0 mC attract each other with a force of 3.0 x 10 3 N in a
vacuum. What is the distance between the charges?

3. A charge of 12 μC when placed in electric field experiences a force of 648 N. What is the
magnitude of the electric field strength?

REFLECTION:

For the first lesson in quarter three, I gained in-depth knowledge about the electric charge and
Coulomb's law. The first part of the lesson is quite easy to understand because it only talked about
the positive and negative charges, the three processes of charging for us to recall what we have
learned in our junior years. The second part is somehow tricky and confusing. A lot of formulas were
introduced that are needed to solve a particular problem. But the teacher provided examples that
helped us to be better understand the concept of the lesson. All in all, I was glad that I could attend
the discussion and got an opportunity to participate in the class. On the other hand, in answering the
three problems in the learning activity sheet, I experienced a little bit of difficulty but, I got to scan the
PPT posted in google classroom regarding the topic. It assisted me in solving the given problems and
obtained the correct answer.
