1. ROLE OF EACH
1) Fire-resistive : The role of this type of construction is to resist high temperatures
and fire, with protected openings, it limits the spread of fire and extends
continuously from the foundation to the roof or through the roof, with a sufficient
structural stability under difficult conditions. To allow the construction to collapse on
either side without the wall collapsing.

2) Non-combustible : The role of this type of construction is to oppose the fire thanks
to these solid fire extinguishing systems, but are susceptible to collapse, mainly due
to their types of roofs.

3) Ordinary : This type of construction having wall structures made of brick or

masonry, wooden roofs and floors, has the role of resisting bad weather and wind
movement, but not sheltering it from fire

4) Heavy timber : This type of construction has the role of resisting collapse

5) Wood-framed : This type of construction, thanks to the deficient physical

properties, have the role of resisting fire

3. 5 EXAMPLES FOR EACH

1) Fire-resistive : Residential building, commercial building, shopping malls,
newer schools…
2) Non-combustible : Shoppingmalls
3) Ordinary :
4) Heavy tember
5) Wood-framed : Small building, united family home, small restaurant, small
office building, garages…

4. ADVANTAGES OF EACH
1) Fire-resistive : The advantage of this construction is that All structural materials
are non-combustible, fire-resistant for up to four hours and not vulnerable to
collapse.

2) Non-combustible : The advantage with this type of construction is that the

exterior walls, the frame and the floor/ceiling/roof have a little resistance and are
protected for 1 hour against fire damage.

3) Ordinary : An advantage of these buildings is that their combination of materials

allows them to remain upright even if the floors collapse.

4) Heavy timber : The advantage with this type of construction is that, Large
dimensional wood buildings hold up well during fires, but weather and termite
damage increase their risk of collapse

5) Wood-framed : The advantage with this type of construction is that, its buildings are,
of course, the most economical, but are subject to safety and space constraints in
accordance with the standards established by the International Building Code.
