Analyze

1. From the PPSTs, the Southeast Asia Teachers Competency Standards and the TEDx videos that
you viewed, what competencies does a great teacher possess?
 From the readings and videos that I have reviewed, I can say that a great teacher
possesses competencies such as:
a. Expertise in content or concepts of certain subject area
b. Displays skills in planning, implementing and managing learning progress
c. Engaging the community, stakeholders, and parents to involve in students’ learning
process.
d. A teacher that fulfills his obligation with utmost integrity, accountability and
responsibility.
e. Having the knowledge, skills and values to support teaching-learning process
f. A teacher understands and knows his/her students need
g. Knows how to listen and willing to learn
h. Create life impacting relationship

2. Are these competencies limited only to professional competencies?

 No, because a great teacher must embody a great personal quality that surpasses towards
learners in order to establish deeper understanding and firm relationships between
themselves (as teacher and students) to nourish and foster impactful quality on student's
lives.

3. For a teacher to be great, is it enough to possess the professional competencies to plan a lesson,
execute a lesson plan, manage a class, assess learning, compute and report grades? Explain your
answer.
 Professional competence and all the others are the most significant component to
consider in teaching ang learning process but learning could not be more engaging and
impacting without having the personal traits of a teacher. When a teacher is dedicated to
his or her profession, all of his or her efforts can be seen throughout a learner's
achievement; yes, s/he does all of the necessary tasks to execute the teaching, but the
patience and willingness to ensure that at the end of the day, the learner understands and
absorbs everything is worth a piece.

4. For a teacher to be great, which is more important personal qualities or competencies?

 Personal traits and competences are essential, because I think having and keeping these
qualities and competencies will help to sustain the dignity, credibility, and integrity of the
teaching profession. These aspects will assist them in meeting their obligations and
responsibilities for personal growth as well as professional development in order to
accomplish holistic lifelong learning.

5. Who are the teachers that we remember most?

 The teachers that we remembered the those who shaped and impacted our lives the most
and in so many ways. The ones who inspired us, understand us, listen and encourage us
with all their ability to make the best versions of our selves.

Reflect
Which personal traits do I possess? Not possess? Where do I need improvement in?

 I can say that the qualities I value most in myself are honesty, comprehension, a readiness
to learn and listen, as well as optimism and responsibility. But aside from that, I can be
rather strict at times, which some people may not enjoy. Additionally, I need to add more
point to it by working on my patience.
Which professional competencies am I strongly capable of demonstrating?
 Expertise in concept is one of the professional competencies that I am very capable of
exhibiting. These are important lessons that I genuinely gained from my previous
academic year, and I may use them to make sure that I can impart thorough
comprehension and information to my future student.
In which competencies do I need to develop more?

 The competency that I really need to develop is to how to manage my skills and improve
my strategies in executing the lesson plan. I say so because most of the time I can fell
shyness to my students that somehow can be the reason of unproper deliberation of the
lesson.
Who are the teachers that we remember most? Why?

 As what I have answered, the teachers that we remembered are those who shaped and
impacted our lives the most and in so many ways. The ones who inspired us, understand
us, listen and encourage us with all their ability to make the best versions of our selves.

Attach your reflections here.

From this lesson, entitled “The Teacher We Remember” I have learned and
remembered a lot from my previous lower years of studying. That once made me
smile, made me believe in myself, made me cry and even made me lonely.
Our teachers have a responsibility to make a lasting impression on their student’s
lives in addition to imparting knowledge. Teachers motivate not only to their
students but also to ordinary people with their positive outlook towards them.
But I might add that sometimes hearing negative criticism from them help one
person to believe in their own ability and capability to achieve great things in life,
both within themselves and camaraderie. It saves us from being too weak and aloof
to others.
It has been a decade but I can still hear my high school teacher saying “iyan,
madali yan makaasawa”. Not really pointing out on me, but at us (from my group
of friends). We just laugh at it even it quit hurts us in the inside. We just tended to
ignore it and act as if it doesn’t matter.
From that moment until now, when we hang out with my best friend, we can still
recall and laughed at everything and says “hain man yun na asawa ta” (Although I
am already married now but I got the one at the right age and time).
Teachers really involved the way things throws at our lives academically and
emotionally. They molded us to the person we became. And at some point, those
negative and positive point of views about us can really be a vital part of our
journey in life.
