INTRODUCTION
INTRODUCTION

Field Study 2 is focused on Principles of Learning, it's a teaching strategies taht

allows us to experience, know, understand and learned things that we should
acquired in order for us the future teacher to be effective teachers. Field Study 2
is the continuation of our field study 1, this is the continuation of the activities,
learning methods, experience and process that weve encounter on field study 1.

On field study 1, we focused on observing, taking down notes on things that we

see, and need to improve, analysis, actions and our reflection. Now we are on the
next level and that is application pf yhe things that we learned from the past field
study. We are now more involved in this field, we are now doing things that we
should do for us to be a skillful and effective teachers in the future.

I learned on this Field Study that there's a lot of ways that we should know for us
to be a professional teachers. Problems that we may encounter in the field of
teaching and testing us on how do we deal with those problems. On how we will
plan or lesson, use different types of teaching strategies. On how we will make
our students learned and improve.

BELIEFS ON TEACHING AND LEARNING

(PRE AND POST)

Teaching is the big part of the live of every teacher, not just by the teacher but
everyone around us. It is the cycle of life that are continues, having no ending,
same as on learning. I believe that both teaching and learning is connected to
each other they are inseparable. They are one of the most needed things in this
world and for everyone.

I believe that the best and the effective teachers is the one who teaching well it's
every students. The one create the best plan on teaching, using ang making their
own way of teaching strategies. Understand and know the situation of every
students. The one who is fair and making all of his/her students learned and
successful in life.

LEARNING EPISODE 1.
Analyze
From the PPSTs, the Southeast Asia Teachers Competency Standards and the TEDx videos that
you viewed, what competencies does a great teacher possess?
From the PPSTs, the Southeast Asia Teachers Competency Standards and the
TEDx videos that I viewed, the competencies do a great teacher possess are; A great
teacher knows everything, especially when it comes to their pupil's. A teacher loves to
teach, wonder, learn and creative. They are the most genuine people, fair and humble
one. They are the matured people but they act like a kid just to make their pupil's learn.

Are these competencies limited only to professional competencies?

No, because all teacher must have this competencies. Competencies is not limited
only to professional competencies, to be a great teacher he/she must have this personal
qualities of a teacher. To become a great teacher we under go to a many steps, from
ourselves to others. Teacher's became other person just for their pupils. They can be
your parents, friends, classmates but still intact to the pupil's that they are their teacher.

For a teacher to be great, is it enough to possess the professional competencies to plan a lesson,
execute a lesson plan, manage a class, assess learning, compute and report grades? Explain your
answer.

For a teacher to be great, is it not enough to possess the professional competencies

because, as a teacher you must be creative in all aspects in teaching. Not just having a
professional competencies but having the heart and efforts in all things that you're doing
for your pupils to learn and grow. The pupils should see from the teacher that his/her
doing all her best just to teach them and make them learned.
For a teacher to be great, which is more important personal qualities or professional
competencies?
To be a great teacher, I prefer that personal qualities is the most important for a
teacher to be great. Because this is where being a great teacher started, from ourselves.
We can't say that you are really a great teacher if your personal qualities is not good or
toxic.

Who are the teachers that we remember most?

The teachers that we remember the most are those teachers that are nice,
understanding, responsible, friendly, humble, approachable and a teacher that stand in our
side not only as a teacher but a mother/father and a friend that always understand us and
always there for us to cheer us and help us in our problems, not just a problem in school
but also in our personal problems.

Reflect
Which personal traits do I possess? Not possess? Where do I need improvement in?
The personal traits that I possess are nice, approachable, responsible and I'm cooperative.
The personal traits that I not possess are being lack of self-confidence, afraid to talk, shy and
being afraid on communicating or socialize. I need to improve in my communication skills,
collaboration and having self-confidence.

Which professional competencies am I strongly capable of demonstrating?

The professional competencies am I strongly capable of demonstrating is to be a teacher
that will always guiding and supporting it's students in what they're doing and achieving, also in
their own or personal battles or problems. As a teacher you need to be always their for them
guiding and supporting them in able for them to have the self-confidence and back up for them to
strive more and achieve their dreams. Because if your doing that they will put their minds that
there's a person whose believing and supporting them, had their backs no matter what happen
and because of that they will do more, they would gonna do all of their best to success.

In which competencies do I need to develop more?

I need to develop more in “A great teacher listens to students” because sometimes not all
teachers were listening to their students. Some teachers don't listen and care what their students
reasons or what their students going through that leads conflict or misunderstanding between the
teacher and the students and I don't want that to happen. Because having a good connection with
your students heps a teacher to became a great teacher.
Who are the teachers that we remember most?
As what my answer above the teachers that we remember most is the teacher that stand as
our mother/father and a friend taht always there to listen, cheering and helping us in most of our
problems. But we also most remember those teacher that do or said something not good to us.

INCREASING READING COMPREHENSION OF ELEMENTARY STUDENTS

THROUGH FLUENCY-BASED INTERVENTIONS

Veda S. Neumann, B.A.

Dorothy K. Ross, B.A. Anita F. Slaboch, B.A.

ABSTRACT
The authors of this action research project report implemented oral reading fluency-based
interventions for the purpose of improving students’ reading comprehension. Six students in
grade three, six students in grade five and six students in grade six participated in the study from
Monday, August 27 through Friday, December 7, 2007.

Researchers observed that in the targeted reading groups, deficiencies in any element of oral
reading fluency were associated with reading comprehension problems. The teacher
researchers used the following tools to document evidence; Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early
Literacy Skills (DIBELS) Oral Reading Fluency (ORF), which indicated that 50% of students at Site
A and 83% of students at Site B were below benchmark score for oral reading fluency. The
comprehension based assessment (Choose-A-Title) resulted in 61% of the students choosing
the incorrect title. As a result of the student survey, it indicated that 17% of the students
responded “almost never” when asked “I think others like my reading”. Students’ struggles with
accuracy, rate, and prosody revealed deficiencies that inhibited the processing of meaning.

The interventions implemented were three 20-minute weekly sessions consisting of one session
of reader’s theater activities including choral reading, echo reading, and poetry, and two
sessions of partner reading during which student pairs engaged in repeated oral reading and
reading along silently while listening as oral reading was modeled. Teachers are encouraged to
model fluent reading illustrating proper rate and accuracy. Reading and rereading exercises
such as reading with a model reader, choral reading, reader’s theater, and partner reading can
improve fluency (Vaughn & Linan-Thompson, 2004).

As a result of the interventions, students demonstrated increased awareness of the three

elements of oral reading fluency: accuracy, rate, and prosody. Students practiced self-
monitoring these elements while participating in paired reading and cooperative learning
groups. The post data revealed that there was a decrease in students’ positive responses to “I
read with expression and feeling”. Thirty-three percent of students responded “almost always”
on pre documentation and 28% on post documentation. The “usually” category declined from
50% to 44%. Students responded best to interventions that involved repeated reading in the
form of rehearsal followed by performance, such as choral poetry reading and reader’s theater.
Students demonstrated engagement in the activities while becoming more realistic in self-
evaluation.

ENHANCING THE PERFORMANCE OF GRADE VI-C PUPILS OF BUYAGAN

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL THROUGH THE USE OF ARTS IN MATH (AIM)
by Lorna V. Wallit
ABSTRACT
The action research aims to enhance the performance of Grade VI-C Pupils in Mathematics in
Buyagan Elementary School through the use of Arts In Math (AIM). Specifically, the action
research sought to: 1) use Arts in Math (AIM) to enhance the mastery level of Grade VI-C in
Mathematics, 2) improve comprehension skills of Grade 6 on Mathematics concepts through the
use of “Arts in Math (AIM)”, 3) use “Arts In Math (AIM)” to stimulate, motivate and sustain
pupils’ interest in Mathematics and 4) improve the teaching strategy in Mathematics through
AIM.The study was conducted for two quarters from June-October 2015(1st and 2nd Grading)
with 46 pupils as the target subjects. The study made use of the one -shot experimental design
to look into the effectiveness of “Arts In Math (AIM)” in improving pupils’ performance in
Mathematics. The findings showed that the use of Arts In Math (AIM) enhanced the
performance of Grade VI-C Pupils in Mathematics. For the first quarter, there was an increase of
34.13 in the MPS and 29.79 for the second quarter. Using the t-test of the difference between
means of correlated data, the t- test computed value of 23.71 for the first quarter and 32.37 for
the second quarter is more than the critical value of 1.676 at 0.05 level of significance with 45
degrees of freedom.
In conclusion, Arts In Math (AIM) enhanced mastery learning and comprehension of Grade 6-C
pupils based from the pretest and posttest. There was a significant difference between the means
of pretest and posttest using t-test as the statistical treatment. In addition, Arts in Math (AIM)
stimulated, motivated and sustained pupils’ interest. Furthermore, Arts In Math (AIM) improved
the teaching strategy in Mathematics. As to the recommendations, teachers should be encouraged
and motivated to use Arts In Math so as to enhance pupils’ performance in Math. Moreover,
integration of arts shouldnot only be used in teaching Mathematics but also with other subjects.
The school head should encourage and support the generation and use of the Arts In Math
(AIM).

I. INTRODUCTION
The world today is undergoing a tremendous change which causes a chain of
problems and challenges to mankind. Man is endowed with intelligence and is
making use of his ingenuity to wrestle with these brain-pain problems not only to
cope with and be attuned with the changing times but most especially to survive.
Mathematics is one of those disciplines greatly influenced by the process of change
in our world today.
In the words of Adler, Mathematics is the handmaiden of science, is also the art
which expresses beauty through a system of definitions, axioms and theorems. It
is one of the most important tools man has forged in his quest to understand and
control his environment. Since Mathematics is an indispensable tool for
technological age, it is the role of mathematics teachers to provide opportunities
to pupils to learn materials which may be considered new or modern.
Most failure in Mathematics is due to the sole memorization with devoid
understanding. Pupils lack the application of skills and techniques which help the
pupils develop their critical thinking, reasoning power and creative minds which
they use in working independently in any kind of Mathematics activities. It was
observed that pupils easily get bored in solving pure numbers during their Math
period. They enjoy more in their ARTS subject which has something to do with
drawing and coloring pictures. They are more behaved in doing their arts activities
independently. In Buyagan Elementary School, Mathematics had been noted as one
of the most difficult subject since it consists of a collection of facts and skills to be
memorized or mastered by a relatively heterogeneous group of pupils.
The result of the National Achievement Test (NAT) in Mathematics in the year
2013 is 66 .32 % and in the year 2014 is 68.82%. Though it shows that it is
increasing, it did not yet reach the 75% standard level.
The researcher in her role as a Mathematics teacher concerned herself on how to
help the pupils perform better in the field of Mathematics. This concern made the
researcher planned to find possible solutions that could assist the Grade Six
Section C pupils of Buyagan Elementary School in enhancing their level of
performance in Mathematics.

II. METHODOLOGY

The researcher used ARTS IN MATH (AIM) as a strategy that would enhance the
performance of Grade VI Section C pupils of Buyagan Elementary School in
Mathematics during the school year 2015-2016.
Arts in Math (AIM) is an excellent strategy. This makes use of instructional
approaches which attempts to make the process of learning mathematics more
enjoyable, more exciting and more meaningful. It significantly improves mastery
of key concepts and vocabulary. It helps the pupils relax and reduce the stress
which many of the pupil’s experience as a result of Math anxiety.According to
John Malkevitch (2012) in his Mathematics and Art feature Column from the
AMS, all students are gifted and using arts in math gives artistically gifted children
a chance to shine.
For right-brained children (who are often left-handed), art engages the right brain
which is a critical part of their ability to learn math concepts and vocabulary. In
addition to this benefit- art activities are fun for everybody, and since authentic
learning is linked to emotion, it makes sense to incorporate art whenever possible
in teaching Math.
Arts In Math (AIM) calls for simple and direct instruction that aims to help pupils
memorize fundamental mathematical concepts while having arts. The pupils can
use colors and shapes to enhance their understanding of Math. The materials are in
the form of activity sheets that will be used inside the classroom and are used in
selected topics. The pupils will answer or solve mathematics sentences before they
are going to perform art activities like coloring or painting.

Here are the activities and lesson ideas using Arts in Math:
Color My Petals : Make the petals of the flower colorful by applying different
colors but the pupils will have to add and subtract decimal numbers first.
My Cutie Puppy : This activity focuses on multiplying decimals by 0.1,0.01 and
0.001. The pupils will find the product and color the parts of the puppy according
to the given codes.
Answer, Find and Color: This activity is about multiplication of decimals. The
pupils are going to answer the given numbers, find the product and color the
picture according to the given codes.
Solve, Find and Shade: These activities cover division of decimals. The pupils are
going to solve, find the quotient and shade the parts of each drawing according to
the given codes.
Funny Tweety: This activity is an enjoyable and interesting way to identify prime
and composite numbers.
My Chubby Pooh : This activity is on identifying equivalent fractions. The pupils
are task to find the fractions equivalent to the given set of fractions before applying
colors on Pooh’s clothes.
Treasure Hunting: It focuses on determining and matching the GCF of 2 numbers
placed below the miners’ carts and the gold bars.
Food Delivery Maze: It requires the pupils to change the fractions to decimals
until they will reach grandma’s house and delivers the food.
III. RESULT AND DISCUSSION
Arts in Math (AIM) was used in the teaching-learning process for the first and
second quarters of the school year 2015-2016 to enhance the performance in
Mathematics of the Grade 6 section C pupils of Buyagan Elementary School.
Different activities using Arts in Math were used in the development of lessons as
well as during the preparatory activities and evaluation activities. The researcher
used Arts in Math (AIM) in almost all the least learned competencies in
Mathematics.

The result of the teaching-learning process is presented basing on each objective.

They are as follows:
A. Effectiveness of Arts in Math (AIM) in enhancing the mastery learning of
Grade 6-C pupils in Mathematics
Arts in Math (AIM) particularly the use of drawing, coloring, painting, and etching
activities in teaching the competencies enhanced the learning of the Grade 6-C
pupils in Mathematics. During the teaching of Mathematics, different individual
and group activities were used to add, subtract, multiply, divide decimals, identify
prime and composite numbers, find equivalent fractions, determine GCF and
LCM, change fractions to lowest terms, reduced fractions, add, subtract, multiply
and divide similar and dissimilar fractions.Table 1 shows the pretest and posttest
results for the two quarters- first quarter and second quarter. Results show that
there was an increase of 34.13 in the MPS for the first quarter and 29.79 for the
second quarter. The increase in the mean score which indicated great difference
between the pretest and posttest evidently validated the claim that pupils
exposed to creative, exciting and varied activities had better retention and had
mastered the lessons. Table 1 also presents the results of the t-test statistics
between the pretest and posttest for the first quarter and second quarter.
Using the t-test of the difference between means of correlated data, the t- test
computed value of 23.71 for the first quarter and 32.37 for the second quarter is
more than the critical value of 1.676 at 0.05 level of significance with 45 degrees
of freedom. The result shows that Arts In Math (AIM) is an effective tool in
improving learning in Mathematics.
Table 1: Mean Difference of the Pre-test and Post Test score in AIM

B. Improved

comprehension skills of Grade 6 on Mathematics concepts through the use of

Arts In Math (AIM)Using Arts In Math (AIM) in teaching Mathematics showed
that there was an improvement on the comprehension skills of the pupils on
Mathematics concept. Individual and group arts activities in the development of
the lessons, lesson proper and during the evaluation of learning outcomes were
used.
Table 2 presents the mastery indices of the different competencies for the first
grading examination. It could be seen that most of the competencies are under
Closely Approximating Mastery (CAM) and Mastered (M). Of the 15
competencies, six (6) were under Mastered (M) and nine (9) were under Closely
Approximating Mastery. This could be attributed from the effect of the Arts in
Math (AIM) used in classroom instruction.
Table 3 presents the mastery indices of the different competencies for the second
grading examination. Of the 19 competencies, four (4) were under Mastered (M),
fourteen (14) were under Closely Approximating Mastery (CAM) and one (1) was
under Moving Towards Mastery (MTM).

C. Used Arts In Math (AIM) to stimulate, motivate and sustain pupils’

interest
The study used different arts activities in teaching Mathematics 6. Coloring
activities for individual work
and group work were used.
Aside from coloring activities,
painting, colored paper tearing,
sprinkling, cutting and crayon
etching were also done.
According to Larrick (1953) as
cited by Agnasi (2013), there
is no substitute for the study of the interest of the individual; we must make the
most of the children’s interest because it is the starting point for the improvement,
a barometer of proficiency and as a criterion of the success of school instruction.
It was observed that whenever the lessons were presented using Arts In Math
(AIM), the pupils became more interested and active in all the activities. Pupils’
interest throughout the teaching-learning process was very evident.
Table 4 presents the attendance of the pupils for the first and second quarters.
Results show that there were 100% of attendance from the beginning of classes up
to the end of the first semester (June-October) and no pupils were tardy or late in
their Mathematics subject.

D. Improved the teaching strategy in Mathematics

According to Rivera and Sambrano (1982), as cited by Ducayso (2004), the slow
learners have short span of interest; hence, they exactly get bored. Because of
this, the teacher should set more interesting environment through discussions,
games, puzzles, arts and other exciting activities. It is then the role of a teacher to
make the teaching-learning process effective and successful by improving his
teaching strategy instead of typical intermediate papers or chalk boards. The use
of Arts In Math (AIM) was a very effective strategy in teaching Mathematics
subject. The pupils were provided with different art activities which they enjoyed
doing while computing and analyzing mathematical sentences and mathematics
word problems.

IV. CONCLUSION
From the findings, the researcher came up with the following conclusions:
1. Arts In Math (AIM) enhanced mastery learning and comprehension of Grade 6-
C pupils based from the pretest and posttest. There was a significant difference
between the means of pretest and posttest using t-test as the statistical
treatment.
2. Arts in Math (AIM) stimulated, motivated and sustained pupils’ interest.
3. Arts In Math (AIM) improved the teaching strategy in Mathematics.
V. RECOMMENDATIONS

Based on the findings and the conclusions drawn from the study, the following
recommendations are given:
1. Teachers should be encouraged and motivated to use Arts In Math so as to
enhance pupils’ performance in Math.
2. Integration of Arts should not only be used in teaching Mathematics but also
with other subjects.
3. The school head should encourage and support the generation and use of the
Arts In Math (AIM).

VI. REFLECTION

Every teacher wants their pupils to learn, to shine and to excel in their classes.
Every teacher believes that the success of the learners reflects the success of his
way of imparting knowledge to them. Different strategies are being used to
ensure that every learner will be able to learn. In this study, Arts In Math (AIM)
was used to make teaching-learning process in Mathematics fun, enjoyable and
interesting. At first, it was a tough job for me since I didn’t have the skills in arts,
but I really wanted to present and teach math concepts in a way that pupils will
develop the attitude of “I LOVE MATH.” With the saying-“If there’s a will, there’s a
way,” I was able to produce different art activities for my pupils even it entailed a
lot of hard work and consumed most of my time. Nevertheless, I find
contentment when I saw my pupils humming and smiling while doing their
individual or group work activites. With this research, I realized that a teacher
should be ARTISTIC.
A teacher should possess the following characteristics:A= Artistic and
Approachable
R= Resourceful
T= Thoughtful
I= Innovative
S= Systematic
T= Tender to his/her pupils
I= Ingenious
C= Creative

What five problems have you identified from the words that you have
chosen? Make a statement. Write in the space below.
The problems I identified are:

1. Bullying is the most common problem in the school. The reason why some students don't
want to go to school anymore or worst committed suicide.

2. Because of poverty some students chooses to stop schooling and find a job instead in able
for them to help their family.

3. Because of not enough financial some students find a part-time job to sustain it's
educational needs.

-In assisting my mentor after knowing that the learners have difficulty in comprehension
I will let her know the problem and I will ask what we should do. Make a plan and find a
solution on how to solve it. I will be there to listen, cooperate and help.

Make a Choice for your ACTION.

A. Conduct a tutorial lesson.

B. Show video lessons to help enhance comprehension.

C. Make a learning task to develop comprehension.

Suppose you chose letter A. Conduct a Tutorial. So you have identified

the SOLUTION that matches the PROBLEM which is Difficulty in
Comprehension.

The Problem is: The Action is:

Difficulty in Conduct a Tutorial

Comprehension of
Notice
What have you noticed of the problem identified above? Can there be
more than one solution to the problem? Explain

- Yes, I noticed that there's a lot of problems but in every problems there's a solutions.
And a great teacher will always see those problems and find and execute a effective solution to
it. And can deal with those problems.

Analyze
Let us try to look into the following scenarios in the daily life of a teacher.
This scenario might also be similar to the class you have observed and noticed.

Scenario A: Miss Fely is a grade four teacher in a typical elementary school.

She has forty learners in her class. One half of them cannot
classify animals into vertebrates and invertebrates. She has been
repeating the same science lesson for two weeks, yet no progress
was observed. This situation has been bothering Miss Fely.
Can you identify, Miss Fely's problem?

Miss Fely's problem is one half of them cannot classify animals into vertebrates and
invertebrates. She has been repeating the same science lesson for two weeks, yet no
progress was observed.

Can you find a solution to solve her problem? Yes

Give your two suggestions.

Try other teaching method that can easily get the attention of the learner's that they will
focus on listening and classifying the topics.

Use lots of resources that can easily teach and show the students about the topic.

What solution can solve Miss Fely's problem?

How?

I think my suggestion can solve the problem of Miss Fely because if we use different
ttpes of teaching method that we know if we use that strategy it will easily catch the
attention of the students and they will listen and focused on the lesson in thay cased
they will understand amd can classify the animals into vertebrates and invertebrates.

Are they matched with the problem?

Yes. I think it will be effective.

Scenario B: Sir Ryan teaches in a disadvantaged urban community. Most of his

learners come from families that are disrupted, either with single
parents or with their guardians who stand only as parents. They
are deprived of the necessary food, clothing and shelter.
Can you identify the most probable teaching-learning problem/s in the class
of Sir Ryan?
Unstable performance of students due to these problems.

Unfocused students and not having a self-confidence.

Can you propose a solution to solve one of the problems that you have
identified?
Yes. First I can help them in providing foods and clothes. I can ask my family, friends and other
people to donate some for this people. And in those students I will guide them, I will make
sure that they will learned for them to have a better future and move out their family in
poverty. I will do all of my best to help them learned and be successful, in that way I know it's
the best help that I can do for them.

Reflect
After reading the two scenari0S given above, how would identifying
problematic situations and finding solutions to these problems help you to
become a better teacher?

Explain:

Experiencing those kind of problems is not new to the teachers, it's already part of our
lives. As a teacher you can easily and can clearly see the problems in your environment
especially in your students. For me the teacher should always check it's every students
to know if they have a problem or not. Have a background checking to know well the
students and to know what you should do. Be the responsible teacher that you can and
always look back at your students.

Improving Mathematics Achievement of Exceptional Learners Through Differentiated and Peer-
Mediated Instruction. Ivory, Tontaleya S., 2007: Applied Dissertation, Nova Southeastern University,
Fischler School of Education and Human Services. Mathematics
Achievement/Teaching Methods/Special Education/Achievement Tests/Standardized Tests
The purpose of this study was to implement differentiated and peer-mediated instruction to
determine if these instructional interventions were successful in preparing students with disabilities
for state standardized tests. In addition, this study identified how exceptional needs learners
responded to techniques utilized during differentiated and peer-mediated instruction. The objective
of this study was to determine if the interventions produced significant differences in mathematics
achievement of exceptional learners and to provide a context in which the selected interventions
invoked student behavioral response.

IV. Identify the Problem in the Study

The problem that was addressed in this study was the low mathematics achievement of exceptional
needs students on state assessments. This problem was selected due to the continuous low
achievement in mathematics experienced by students with disabilities at the target middle school.
Moreover, the low achievement of exceptional needs students had become a major source of concern
for faculty and administration.

V. Identify the Action Taken in the Study

Participants were given 2 hours to complete the pretest. To ensure that testing conditions were
exactly the same as they would be during the actual CRCT administration, the researcher allowed
additional time to those students whose IEPs dictate this requirement. Students in both groups
received the pretest during their regularly scheduled math class. To ensure that accommodations
outlined in the students’ IEP were carried out, the researcher administered the test over two class
periods.

Participate ad Assist
What will you do to assist your mentor in setting up a conducive learning environment in the
following conditions:
1. Bulletin Board Display
I always put the following:
Daily activities
Make a good ambiance bulletin board design
Use nice and eye catching tools to encourage everyone to view and do what on the bulletin board
2. Small Group Discussion
I would divide the students into groups and will tell them clearly the instructions or what
they should do. Let them think and do what they know. Guide and assist them all the way of the
activity.
3. Checking class attendance in a virtual classroom (i.e, google meet or zoom)
There's many ways to check the class attendance. We may do the old ways of attendance
checking or the new way. Like in the gmeet or zoom you can chack the attendance in viewing or
recording who join the meeting.

Notice
Learning Environment 1:
What have you noticed of the display in the class bulletin board? What message or theme
does it convey?
I have notice on the display in the class bulletin board are it is attractive, it focuses
in one them and the colors are beautiful and appropriate. Oy will matches on
whatever poster that you will put there.
What makes it attractive to the learners?
I think it makes attractive tonthe learner's are the colors, designs, content, posters
that are posted on the bulletin board.
Does it help in the learning process? How?
Yes, Because of the decorations that on the bulletin board it cathces their attentions.
They will view it, read it and undertand it. In yhay they will be aware on what's on
the bulletin board. It will stay in their minds and remember it. In that cased they
will learned. Just what other say what our eyes catch or see it will remain in our
head or minds. We will always remember it.

Learning Environment 2:
If the teacher is using a distance delivery or learning through the modules, where is most
likely the learning space of the students?
Google meet is most likely the learning space of the students because it is the only
way to easily to connect to the students through online class.

Can you describe?

Google meet is form of software that allows dozens of people such as students,
businessman and other organizations to participate in a virtual meeting in their most
convenient time. It is also cheaper than the other application online.
How can you as a teacher help to make such environment conducive for learning?
As a teacher, I can help the students to make such environment conducive for
learning by utilizing virtual software applications to broaden their learning and
provide them opportunity to learn either online class or face-to-face classes,
because we are now in the year were we consider the importance of digital media.
Analyze
The examples above, describe two contrasting situations. The first shows that the learners
are in the same room or space while in the second, the learners maybe in different learning
spaces like homes, study hubs or in extreme cases parks or under the trees.
As a teacher, in which of the two situations would you prefer to manage for learning?
Choose between Learning Environment 1 or Learning Environment 2.
Explain your choice: Why?

I think I will choose the face-to-face learning Environment because it is a face-to-

face set up. It is more better than online set up. Because in face to face we all can rest assured
that the learner's were really learning, because the teacher were there, in front of them to
teach unlike on the online learning. And as what we experiencing rignt now its not that easy to
cope with the new way of learning. Were having a difficulty in this new set up.

Reflect
Based on my noticing and analysis, I realized that
We can use other strategies that we can catch the students attention but they also learning.
The situation above is what were experiencing right now.
Whatever learning environment we are we still can learn.

Write Action Research Prompts

OBSERVE
What probable problem may result from the two situations of the learning environment?
I think the probable problem may result from the two situations of the learning environment is
does the teacher or the parents can be sure that the students were really learning in this both
learning environment.

REFLECT
What solutions can I think of to solve the problem?
I think the solutions to solve the problems is we should always check if the students were
improving or learning. The teacher should observe it's every students if there is a improvement
or none. And give them a test to know if they gained knowledge/learned or not.

PLAN
How should I do it?
I would make a post-test or pre-test to know.if they learned or not. If there is a area taht th3y still
need to develop and enhance. Give activities that we can see their abilities or capacity.

My Conducive Learning Environment"

Learning environment is a very important thing for every students. This is the area where
the students skills, ability, talents and critical thinking were develop and enhancing. A safe place
for everyone to explore and learned every day. An environment where the teacher and the
students were free to express their thoughts and ideas and learning to each other. A learning
environment where we the students were being molded to be a professional one. This is the place
what we called school. A school that we always enter to learn, explore, adopt things, making
memories, being guided by the teacher's and being the person that we wanted to be.
In order for us a student to be successful we must learn first. Learn in all things and
aspect in life. We must know first what we need to know and understand in this world. We
should start first in ourselves. We first learn in our home, the people around us, our family,
relatives, friends, neighbors etc. We are free to explore our environment, we are free to explore
things that we want to explore, ask what we want to ask and learn unintentionally. Our
environment is the one who making us what we are right now. Right form the start since we are
kids or little ones, our environment is the one who help us to develop ourselves. A environment
who show us the real color of the world, what were happening in our surrounding, who to love,
who to rust and who to avoid. It shows us a multiple point of view in life, some area or parts are
we didn't understand why. But because of what we were seeing we make our dream, we create
our plan in life and in that time we start doing things that we know is the right thing to in able for
us to reach our goal and that is going to school so study for us to be successful in life.

I believe that the environment in the school is the one who will make us stronger, wise
person, brilliant people and a person who were being Gods instrument to help other. I know
that the what surrounds us is the one who make us what we are right now, we experience pain,
love, acceptance, proud etc. A difficult environment but also a unique environment. School is
really a useful tools/instrument for everyone to be a great one.

Notice
After reading and reviewing the classroom/remote learning management plan from
different sources and creating your own plan, answer the following questions.
What salient components have you noted?
-I notice that the classroom rules is a must needed to execute your class well. That
the relationship between the teacher amd the students is the most concept in having a
effective teaching. Taht it's really needed to having a classroom management in order for
the teacher to teach well it's students.

Why is there a need to utilize the information to create your classroom management plan?
-It is important to utilize information and creating classroom management plan
because it is the basis of the teacher on how he/she can teach her students well in an
effective ways.

What were the significant things that you noticed when you were implementing your plan?
-Puting and thinking first the safety of every students.

Were there items in your classroom /remote learning management plan which were not tailored
to the needs of your students? How will you improve on these?
-I think yes but if a teacher always can easily make a plan to improve it. Like
adding some guidelines.

Analyze
1. What elements in your classroom/remote learning management plan were mostly followed/
complied with?
-The schedule.

2. What elements in your plan were the most difficult to implement? Why?
The safety rules in yhe classroom because we all know that the students were having
different types of behaviors. Some are easy to talk and others were hard to talk. They will do
what they want to do. And we also know that childrens loves to.play they keep on running here,
running there. Jump here jump there that sometimes causing them a little accident or pain. And
we also know that there's a children that when you tell them to don't do it they will do it more.

Reflect
What were your realizations after creating and implementing your classroom /remote
learning management plan?
I realized that in creating a management plan the teachrr should always be considerate in
all things that might happen. We should always think the feelings or opinion of every students.
What is best for them, how to teach them well. What are the effective ways. And I also realized
that its not that easy to make an management plan. Iys not that simple.

Writing My Learning/ Lesson Plans

Notice
1. What will you consider in writing your lesson / learning plans?

- You must know your content or the topic. It is important for the teacher to know well its topic
to teach it's students correctly. Then I should search and follows the given topic on the
curriculum guide to make a effective plan or way of teaching on how deliver the lesson to the
students that they can easily understand it and learned. I must be more creative in the tools
that I can ise to teach them effectively. Set a objectives or goals that you should meet in that
lesson. From your teaching strategy to the students behavior during the lesson, if they learned,
cooperate, understand it and can apply ot to their lives. To see if theres a improvement in every

given objectives.

3. What feedback was/were given by your Resource Teacher in your first draft/
succeeding lesson/ learning plans?

- As I remember the feedback that was was/were given by our Resource Teacher in your first
draft/ succeeding lesson/ learning plans is that be more resourceful, try to use different types
of teaching strategies, make your activities be more fun and alive. But the lesson plan that I
make is okay, it's passable. I just need to improve in some parts of making a lesson plan like
always double check the spelling and the grammar.

4. What were the best features /areas for improvement of your/lesson learning
plans?

- My teacher mention many best features but I sti need to improve myself in creating a effective
lesson plan.

LEARNING EPISODE 9.
Analyze
We said at the beginning that all teachers could make an Action
Research. It is easy to do it. Let's try doing it. Today, you shall develop a Plan
for our Action Research by following the simple cycle. You will share your
output with your mentor for an opportunity to work together.

Model A:
Activity 1: Developing an Initial Research Action Plan

Observe/Notice

What problem/concern have I noticed that affect teaching-learning?

Write your own observed/ noticed classroom problem here:

The problem I have noticed is that there is still silent students in the classroom. They don't talk and
afraid to cooperate.

Reflect

Think deeply of the problem and your observation. why is this happening?
Can the slow learners be helped? How will it be done?

Write your reflective response to the problem you stated:

I think that they have their own answer on their minds but they don't speak because they are shy or
their classmates are more active than them. And in that cased I think I should always call all of the
students when comes to activities or participating, so that all will be cooperate.

Plan for Action

Key questions:

What will I do as a teacher to solve the problem?

I will make a activities amd tjose who were silent is the on ethat I will assign as a group leader.

How will l describe my intervention, innovation, or actions to the identified

problem
By using some teaching strategies in how to make all of my students work, participate and answer as
one.

How long will it take to introduce the intervention?

It will be not that long. Just finding a perfect timing.
Reflect
Remember: Reflection is a process of making sense of one's previous
experience. Please take a look at what you do in the classroom and think
about why you do it. Recall things that you have done in the previous
segment. You may include your thoughts, feelings, reasoning, relating and
reconstructions about it.

What was your experience in writing the action research plan?

It is hard to think and create a topic or title since some problem were so broad. There's a lot problem
that why its a little bit hard to think for a possible title. And it's eating a lot of time in doing and
conducting it. But if you finish the research it such a big relief and happiness because there's a problem
that you find a solution to solve. And your study can also help other people that were relevant on your
study.

What knowledge, attitude, and skills did you have that helped you accomplish
it?
My ability in thinking some solutions, my time, efforts and hardworking.

What do you still need to learn and develop in yourself to be a skilled teacher-
researcher?
There still a lot of things that I need to learn and develop to myself, especially when it comes to
delivering and composing lessons or topics.
Work one my Artifacts
Your artifact will be taken from your activity in preparing an action
research plan in this episode. You will just expand the answer that you have
given and place in the template below.
My Initial Action Research Plan

Proposed Title: : The Effectiveness of Using Comic Strips as a tool to Improve Students
Reading Comprehension in English Subject among Grade IV Students in Panacan
Elementary School
I. My Identified Problem:
1. What are the effects of using comic strips on the reading comprehension of Grade 4 pupils?

2. Is there significant difference of improvement in the level of the academic performance of the
pupils after using comic strips in English?

II. My Reflection about the Problem

What types of comic strips that were effective on improving reading comprehension of the Grade 4
pupils, does this study will be answer this problem in grade 4 students. It is not that hard to knwo if
this is effective or not since we will be conducting a data gathering.

III. My Plan of Action:

The researcher will collect data for this study by administering a pre-test and a post-test. A
reading story will be given to the respondents for the pre-test and they will answer the
guided questions about their understanding on the story. For the post-test, a comic strip will
be given to identify the improvement of the grade 4 pupils' reading comprehension.

The first step before the beginning of the testing is to write a request letter to the school
director and the IRTF for permission to conduct the study outside of campus. The researcher
will retrieve the request letter once it has been approved. The researcher will present the
request to Panacan Elementary School's principal. After obtaining permission from the
principal, the researcher will present a request letter to the parent of a student in order to
begin the necessary data collection for their child.

In this learning episodes I learned that there's a lot of things that I
should know and apply to myself. I learned that to make an effective
ways of teaching we must be more creative and resourceful that we can
cope with any situation we may encounter in the field of teaching. I
learned the traits that we need to apply to become a professional
teachers. And I learned that in every problem in there's always a right
